keep the friendlies as part of the deal or Canada cup match tickets or
Canadian national team wcq tickets...assuming a another game will be played in TO in the next round? i went for the Canada cup, followed by, friendlies then the wcq, as we don't know if Toronto will even be considered if Canada qualifys for the next round. Anyone know when or ticket renewals are due by?

How can the CMNT give 16000 to TFC fans....it wouldnt be fair to the Canadian supporters outside of the TFC world!....

But i would like the CSA...to give the entire southend...to RPB and USEC to distribute for CANADA games at BMO! now that would gaurentee madness in the south end!

take out the friendlies and add the Canada Cup games.

Dream on. You're not thinking like a suit.

MLSE made an incremental $1 million on the two CC games. The friendlies are loss leaders. It'll snow in July before they give the CC games away.

The right question is, MLSE increased profits in 2008 by raising prices a bit and adding two new sold out games. What will they do to increase profits in 2009?

Methinks it'll be tough to add more revenue-generating games, other than via playoffs or CC qualification, so ticket prices are going up, by more than a bit.

canada cup games instead of friendlies.
IF they have to have friendlies, have em at the start or end of the season as what happened with 8 games in 24 days is ridiculous.

GTA_WOLF

I voted for friendlies from the standpoint that they have more value than the Canada Cup games (price perspective). I also have a sneaking suspicion that we might see Mo Edu back in TO for a friendly game (any chance MoJo might have set this up as part of the deal?).

Boys and girls...did you see the ticket price on those friendlies ??? Yeah they are not going away, no way in hell, I agree with the post above. But I would support adding the Canada Cup games, and first rights to your seats for WCQ games...not just any seats.

Btw, can they schedule their friendlies at a better time next year ? Not during the busiest time of the season ! That kind of planning would be appreciated.

with Seattle coming in next year ticket prices will go up by one game anyways, not abig margin, then Philly the year after. TFC should work with the CSA or vice versa to make sure TFC season tickets holders get the first shot at thier seats for Canada games.

When I get my seasons I'd like to see preseason friendlies part of my package. I want Canada games and Champions league to have a different, seperate demand. Midseason friendlies are bogus to me. Many people just go because they have the tickets but if they had the choice don't really care about the away team. Then people who do like the team that don't have tickets make like there is a big demand. These friendlies midseason are to get other people interested in the game who wouldn't normally go. Well that number of people are getting smaller and I hope we can do away with them and have less midseason games to keep our lads fresh as can be.

Nuvinho

If they want to do the friendlies, have them as pre-season games. Before the actually MLS season starts.

best of both worlds, IMO -- no TFC involvement, so no extra games for them, but the chance for some quality games, provided they get good teams in.

I'm a bit biased since I'm not a SSH, but the last thing I'd like to see is a bunch of scalped seats where RPB's (including myself) could have been. The Canada Cup games were different that way. That's why I voted for friendlies.

Here's what we're thinking:

15 MLS games
2 Canadian Championship games
1 friendly (same math as before - worth 2X a regular season match)
1 potential CCL qualifier (preliminary round only)

- if we do not qualify for CCL you get the money back - but this allows us to send you the tickets in advance with you ticket package. If we had beat Montreal this year we would have had a tough time turning around the qualifying match in under 3 weeks.

The Brazilian Campeonato starts in May, and the Mexican Clausura starts in late April, would one of their teams be willing to come up here in late March? Probably not, because of injury risk in the cold (and fear of the turf)

Could maybe play a J League team in late February or early March (the season starts the second week of March over there), but outside of these boards, who has ever heard of the J League over here?

I think the way it works now is the 2 friendlies are/were free to season ticket holders. My guess is that essentially the 2 CC games would be free.

It's a bit of a misnomer because we don't go out of our way to expose the math to the Season seat holder...we sell the package as a package - if you get my meaning.

It would go something like this:

Take a hypothetical seat that has a public price of $25 - Here's the price of the components:

$250 - 10 Regular MLS games x $25
$195 - 5 Premium MLS games x $39
$ 50 - 2 Canadian Championship games x $25
$ 50 - 1 International Friendly x $50
$ 25 - 1 potential CCL preliminary x $25 (refundable...but we gotta believe!)
$570 - Total Value for all 19 games

The season ticket price in this area would be $320 representing savings of almost 44%...so if you want to rationalize that the friendlies are free, go for it! But there are many ways to look at it. for the purposes of that CCL prelim game - we'd value that at $16 - or 1/20 of the whole package.

Hope this makes sense.

if we did something like that, we could never afford that caliber of team and keep them at BMO (part of our rationale for expansion). For us to bring even two smaller teams would still require a much higher ticket price, and frankly - there is a reason other promoters aren't doing that kind of thing any more. They generally loose their shirts. I know its not what you want to hear, but we'd seriously be looking at an Average price of over $125 for those two teams at BMO. To include this type of a club vs club match in the Season ticket package would also be risky because those clubs do not know their summer schedules until roughly May or so.

here's some other stuff we're changing - I've pulled this directly from the Season ticket holder website we're building (and it is not final but you'll get the gist):

"
// CHANGES TO SUPPORTERS SECTIONS
Without a doubt, our fans are the most passionate in the league, and we can’t tell you how proud we are of that. In the last two years, we’ve learned that there are many different ways that our fans show their support, and in some cases, what’s acceptable for some fans - isn’t necessarily for others.

For 2009, we’re introducing a new Supporters Code of Conduct to make sure that BMO Field remains a place that can be enjoyed by everyone, and allows like-minded fans to support our club together in their own way. Sections 111, 119, 127 and the light grey area in 110 will now become designated ‘Supporters Sections’. In these areas, standing throughout match play will now be permitted, as well as the use of flags, banners, drums and streamers. Remember, these items require permission from the Toronto FC Front Office before they can be used on match days. All other sections will be expected to remain seated during match play, unless the excitement of the play suggests otherwise. If you have questions about this new policy, or how it will effect you – please call us at 416-360-GOAL (4625)"

here's some other stuff we're changing - I've pulled this directly from the Season ticket holder website we're building (and it is not final but you'll get the gist):

110 - Flags Banners Drums & Streamers :) and we just happen to have a 30 x 40 flag all ready for 110 :) Thanks Paul!

// CHANGES TO SUPPORTERS SECTIONS

Just wondering - do many people complain to the FO about people standing in these sections?

Paul would it be possible to add this disclaimer to the back of the tickets? So that any new fans that happen to end up in the south end or the above sections know what they will be getting into?

It should actually be on the seat schematic that shows up when people buy from the TFC website or Ticketmaster. (e.g. like shading areas where "standing is allowed.").

I hope I get seasons in those sections. I'm crazy about TFC and I have half seasons in section 120. I need to seat with other supporters. I had an amazing time when Vancouver and Montreal came (I was in 113) and anytime I get tickets in 115 I have a great time. Columbus was an unforgetable experience, but when I have to seat in 120 I have a good time because I love TFC but the section is quiet and I get yelled at for standing. I need to get seats with you guys.

CMNT games wouldn't work because they have nothing to do with TFC.

Friendlies are a very depressing atmosphere which mean absolutely nothing. I do believe there is no such thing as a friendly, but at the end of the day the game doesn't have much meaning.

Canada Cup games are the best answer if you ask me. It should be a no brainer.

and it's about time they gave 111 and 127 supporter section status. btw, i thought 119 already was a supporters section. thats where the tribal rhythm retards are, right?

It will definitely change a lot for me. No longer do I have to sneak flagpoles in only to have them taken away from me by security. No longer will I be getting a hard time from those who buy from scalpers and then get mad because I won't sit down.

I agree totally.....with me being stuck up in 226, when I see people in the south end sitting and not getting into the chants makes me wonder why the FO didnt let the supporters sell the tickets to try and make the Whole south end packed with avid TFC support.....

the whole south end should be restricted to supporters, not families AND not SCALPERS!!!

I've got some reserveations about the give and take here. On one hand you peeps lucky enough to be in the supporters section are protected but this official status will mean a possible rise in enforcement of sitting outside those sections. Next season I predict more and not less people being escorted out of the stadium for standing in the larger prawn section. ( I include myself, of course.)

Seriously. 40% in 2 years - that's basically gouging if you ask me. Sure - at $200, it doesn't seem like a big deal to pay 30 or 40 more - but this is only year 2.

I still don't understand how TFC says that sales of tickets/jersey's/beer continue to exceed their expectations, yet they have to raise prices to offset costs???

A "sorry we've been in last place 2 years in a row and still don't have a DP yet you have continued to show unrivaled support - so we're not raising ticket prices this year"
would be nice.

Sorry, there has not been a single reason to justify this price hike.

16,000 season ticket holders - a few thousand on a waiting list.

Why are they charging more - because they can.

Its BS and you won't hear any justfication for it because there isn't any.

I don't really blame the TFC FO - I blame their higher ups in MLSE, I'm sure they want to squeeze every ounce of juice they can out of what so far (on the field) has been a lemon.

The inability of MLSE and alot of people on this board to recognize this is frightening. I wont get ripped off for tickets and as soon as I cant justify the price I will give up my season tickets. I view myself as a fairly average sports fan in this city and I dont buy the arguement that there will be an endless supply of suckers..cough..sorry, people, willing to pay out the ass for a bad football team.

Before TFC came along I was perfectly content to enjoy my football on television from across the pond and after theyve priced me out of the stadium i'll be perfectly fine going back to that.
