huh?

what's there to hate??

It's just a little perch for a hawk??? Do you find yourself bothered by it during game-play?
Do you say, "Damn, I missed that goal because I was distracted by that damn Bitchy perch!" ???

She is a useful fixture upon BMO... she stops the seagulls from shitting in your beer and nachos, and she stops the gulls from flying in front of Barrett's awesome kicks!

1. install grass
2. better amenities i.e. bathrooms, restaurants, new team clubhouses, practice facilities, administrative offices, more luxury suites, 2 HD screens
3. electronic billboards, solar panel roof
4. 2 phase seat expansion, 30,000 seats in 2009 40,000-45,000 in 2016-18
5. new team sponsor, i.e. Tim Hortons, TD Bank, Scotia Bank, RBC, RIM
6. get ready for 2018, 2022 World Cup

sounds good.

the stadium above (Philly's, Chester Stadium) is a nice one too....

wow, that's quite the step down. Personally, if they wanted BMO to be magnificent, they should use a different design, I'm not a fan of the whole toilet seat look.

The thing i love about this concept is the imposing size of the structure, something not found anywhere else in this league. There are no other stadiums (except RFK if that thing ever filled up) that an opposing player would walk into and think "ah crap, today's gonna suck". The biggest SSS in the league is HDC and it looks like a minor league baseball stadium.

red bull park is nice.. but it shouldn't take so long to plan these things. what's the point of nice stadia if in the meantime you lose your fan base.

i certainly don't feel jealous about RB getting that stadium because it took them so long to get going on it, and in the meantime we had our cozy SSS (right near the city, I might add, not out in the suburbs) while they had to play in Giants stadium.

When I'm sitting in my seat at BMO I'm not thinking "I wish I was at Red Bull Park" that's for sure.

I'll pass judgement on RB's stadium when it's built. I've heard they've changed it from its original conception. Not really sure what RB's stadium will have that we can't have. Toss a roof and some grass on BMO and you've pretty much got the same stadium. And as we've learned, it's more about the fans than the stadium. If they have 20000 boring fans there, it doesn't matter.

One of the really nice design elements of this fantasy BMO field is that the way the toilet bowl is sloped, as well as that glass portion of the roof, keeps the awesome view of the Toronto skyline. It might look weird at first, but there's definitely purpose behind the design, take a look at this pic:

Again, as the guy stated in his post, it's a two phase plan.. first phase would be a bump up to 30,000 in 2009/2010... and then somewhere around 2020 a bump up to 40-50,000. I'm pretty sure the render is of the final phase.

T_Mizz

How is it going to be more than 40000 without adding a second tier to the East side?

No second deck in the east stands is key! Keep the view and keep me in the last row!

T_Mizz
08-25-2008, 04:22 PM
That's what I'm saying but without the next tier it won't be 40,000 I think 30,000 will fit when they upgrade it the first time then after that you'll need to add a second tier to make it bigger.

It's amazing how much Toronto has changed in the last 30 years. The next 30 it could change even more. 30,000 might not be half as big as will be needed.

I feel the same way. All the cookie cutter stadiums in this league look like minor league ballparks. They have a "sit and clap" kinda aura to them. None of them feel intimidating at all. Atleast BMO has a proper second deck to it, but more can be done

When they do decide to put on a roof, they better get the advice of some acoustic engineers to make sure it amplifies the noise!

rocker

one thing i dislike about all these new stadia is how their roofs are designed.
all the roofs are inclined at such steep angles that the roof becomes almost a decoration. The colorado stadium roof on the east (?) side is a joke... it only covers some people at some of the time (rain + sun) and doesn't look like it provides much sound enhancement. and the roof on the new RSL stadium is just a billowing sail that doesn't provide much rain coverage and certainly wouldn't do much for sound.
If you time a game correctly, BMO actually provides sun coverage for much of the west stand already...

if they built a big roof over BMO, at least make it somewhat level across.

It looks like an exact copy of a stadium that's being built in Asia, I'd find the pic but I forget what it was called...

Anyway, I LIKE the way our stadium is designed. It looks like an old school English football stadium, I know that there are very few "traditionalist" football fans anymore, but I would consider myself one...

I'd be perfectly happy if upon completion, BMO Field looked like this (Pompey's Fratton Park):

http://www.stadiumguide.com/frattonpark2.jpg

http://www.stadiumguide.com/frattonpark3.jpg

http://www.stadiumguide.com/frattonpark4.jpg

Or even Leeds' Elland Road, which is essentially a renovated version of the stadium above, corners filled in, etc. which is what BMO will probably look like in 20 years:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f8/Elland_Road_5.jpg
but not blue, of course... I like that style of roof, and I dunno, it just has that old school appeal to it.
