Toronto FC return home needing the full three points when overall MLS leaders New England Revolution come to BMO Field on Saturday night. TFC sits at the foot of the Eastern Conference, seven points out of the automatic playoff spots entering the round, with a third of the season to be played. The Revolution moved back atop the East with their midweek victory against D.C. United. It's the second meeting of the season between the clubs, the Revolution holding on for a 2-1 win in Foxborough in June.

Reds coach still assessing Dichio, Marshall
Toronto FC Coach John Carver will assess the fitness of Danny Dichio (concussion) and Tyrone Marshall (thigh) tomorrow, before deciding if the duo will be in the squad to face the New England Revolution at BMO Field on Saturday (kick off 7:30 p.m. live on Rogers Sportsnet). "Danny has done a little bit of light training this morning and I will have to assess him again tomorrow to see whether he's available to go in the squad. Tyrone Marshall didn't play for Jamaica last night but he's done some training this morning and we'll see if he suffers any reaction." Carver is also pleased with the recovery being made by long term absentee Todd Dunivant. "Todd is coming along nicely. He has just had the plaster off his ankle and he is doing well in his recovery."

Toronto FC get forward Ruiz from LA
Toronto FC announced Thursday that they have acquired forward Carlos Ruiz from the L.A. Galaxy in exchange for a first-round pick and a second-round pick in the 2009 MLS Supplemental Draft and salary budget considerations. As per team regulations contract details were not disclosed.
"We're looking forward to bringing in another quality striker," said manager, director of soccer Mo Johnston. "We've now got Barrett and Dichio who is on the road to getting healthier and this will also help bring young Ibee (Ibrahim) along properly. We're very excited to get Ruiz in here - he holds the ball up well and is a clinical finisher."
Ruiz, 28, is known as the best pure goalscorer in MLS history. He leaves L.A. as the second leading scorer in Galaxy history with 50 regular season goals for the club, and helped the team to victory in the MLS Cup in 2002. The forward is the all-time leader in postseason goals in MLS, and is currently 8th on the All-time goals list with 82.

Carlos Ruiz, who has potted 82 goals in a Major League Soccer career going back to 2002, has been traded to Toronto FC by the Los Angeles Galaxy.
The Guatamalan forward is the second all-time scorer in L.A. franchise history (51), and also played three years with FC Dallas for whom he added 31 tallies.
He has only one this year in 10 games.

TFC's newest man already kicking

Carlos Ruiz, Toronto FC's newly acquired forward, is expected to arrive in Toronto tomorrow. TFC head coach John Carver isn't sure if Carver will suit up Saturday against the New England Revolution.
Ruiz played for Guatemala in a World Cup qualifier against the U.S. in Guatemala City on Wednesday.
The game, a 1-0 U.S. win, was chippy, including an incident in which Ruiz kicked the head of U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard.
"Carlos kicked me straight in my head," Howard said. "With Carlos you expect that. He is dirty. I wish I could say it otherwise, but he's played MLS for five years and I've seen him."

Smith unpacks his bags at TFC

At the tender age of 21, Johann Smith is aware of fate's fickle nature.
Just as he was poised to play in Toronto last summer, a third-degree ankle sprain deprived Smith of an opportunity to represent the U.S. at FIFA's under-20 World Cup.
When word began to circulate this spring that Major League Soccer was eyeing Smith, several teams expressed interest. Little did Smith know that Toronto FC was among the suitors.
"Bags and bags of ability,'' TFC head coach John Carver said in assessment of Smith. "He's got bags of pace, but he needs to control that."
Having suited up for his latest side and having experienced a sampling of Toronto's mosaic, Smith is relishing his moment in Hogtown, however long it may last.
LIFE'S MYSTERIOUS
"Life works in mysterious ways,'' Smith said yesterday after TFC ended its training session at BMO Field.
"It's weird when you think I'd be playing here last year and now I find myself here on a professional basis.
"Who knows what the future holds for me, but hopefully it's positive."
Smith's initial impressions of the TFC organization and Toronto are positively positive.
He traversed the city's streets Wednesday and later attended Canada's 1-1 draw against Jamaica, where Smith's family has deep roots.
