Sounds like Mo might be making a public appeal to actually get this done. :hump:

right now! 4-7!

Dobson is filling in today for Bob who's on vacation, and he's taken over with footy talk!

The updates are also saying that MoJo said he hopes some of Edu's transfer $$$ is used to put in real grass at BMO.

I can't wait to hear MoJo get interviewed by Dobson, especially with the previous news we've heard today :)

Dobson just said TFC gets 2/3 of the 5 mil transfer fee and only 500,000 of that can be used for allocation...the rest has to be used for "upgrades" to the franchise, I guess that is why MoJo wants grass in BMO with the $$$...so we will have $2,833,333 for upgrades :) Is that enough $$$ for grass?

Maybe not, but it's a good start. I't be like the sod company having a clearance sale. MLSE might just do some impulse shopping :D

Ive never been under the impression that money was the issue here.

The stumbling block for real grass is the fact that the city owns the facility and more specifically, the land it sits on.

high quality sod, irrigation system, under soil heating, maint. equipment, possibly having to build a new community field, etc.
The question was about a grass pitch, not a practice/community field.
Anyhow, I realize its more than just the grass itself when a pitch is installed,
but remember all those things you mentioned to install a grass field is still less to install than a plastic one - and that didn't cost half the $2m.

Fieldturf I hear is supposed to have a shelf life of 7 years or so.
But thats through regular use - not the 70 hrs+ a week of abuse the city puts this stuff through.

Because it is accomplishing absolutely nothing as far as the city is concerned.
The city loses a field with your suggestion. It needs more, not less.

hmmm, the pitch at BMO field is 68 X 105 meters which is 7140 square meters, that works out to 76,854 square feet. 1 bag of patch perfect covers 50 square feet, which means it would take 1538 bags. Patch perfect website has a 2 for 1 deal which means they would only have to buy 769 bags (+769 free) at $19.95 which is $15,341.55 + %14 tax thats $17,489.38 .

so the whole pitch could be covered in grass for only $17,489.38.

The field is having a negative impact on recruiting players. Mo sounded frustrated with having to wine and dine players only to have them say "Everything is first rate, but the field sucks. I think I'll go to San Jose where they play on lush green grass..."

This pattern will limit the future potential of the team, which will reflect negatively on Mo Johnson, even if its not his fault. He will ultimately be held accountable for the success or failure of the team.

It's nice to hear that MLS controls where the money will be spent. MLSE cannot simply pocket the cash as income.

Without a doubt, that was the best PTS ever. The Edu trade/pitch talk was particularly informative. I found it interesting when Gerry said that the BMO pitch has been essentially flattened due to constant use over the last year and change. Even an artificial pitch cannot stand up to the constant bombardment of community use.

Hopefully the cries for a grass pitch do not die down. Let's get the non-essential football out of BMO and make our stadium a truly professional venue.

If you enjoyed hearing a show like Tuesday's Prime Time Sports and want to encourage them to do it again, email the Fan's program director, Doug Farraway and tell him how much you enjoyed it and want to hear more.

BTW, Doug's an intelligent, thoughtful guy who enjoys fighting the good fight. He supports Spurs, after all.

Just go to fan590.com and either click on Doug's column, Deacon's Pulpit - comments box is at bottom of page - or scroll down to the bottom of the home page and click contact us. Use the programming option from the pull-down menu.

You can be sure there'll be lots of barking from the anti-soccer mob.
