View Full Version : What did you do before TFC came into your life?

Late Friday afternoon at work waiting to go home so.........just a thought!

TFC has rejuvenated my love for this sport. Not that I ever not like football, but now that I have a home team to support I realize how much I LOVE football. I've started playing again, and can only think of football, 24/7. It has wiped out all other sports from my radar....like I said, just a thought.

Tru dat Pigfynn! LOL!

I was totally into the Raptors in the winter and exercise in the summer.

Now I am sitting at my laptop 12 months a year scouring for any bit of TFC information every day and gained 50lbs because of it.

And totally ok with it.

Not much difference really.

In terms of football, I've been a Barca fan for a very long time (as well as the hometown team back home), still follow Barca religiously. However, now that we have a local team to support in T.O., I try to find time to go to the games, watch the games whenever they actually air them, keep up to date with the team news and of course waste time in these fine boards :D.

I laid in bed all day I must have hit 300 pounds at least. Now that I go to the games I lost all the weight, it is a miracle. On the off days I still eat corn chips and masturbate, bad habits are hard to kill.

Without a home team to capture my attention, my favorite teams were only casually followed. As much as I loved them, and the game, coverage here in T.O. has always been lacking, and as a result, I found myself to be a part time supporter.
Now with TFC in my life, I boor my friends with endless footy talk. I spend far too much time on the computer looking for info, and I spend far too much money on tickets, gear, memorabilia, Beer, and food.

Same here. Soccer is the only sport i follow, but i did so even before TFC. Now I just add MLS to the list of leagues i follow.

I wondered why my husband got me up at 8:00 on the weekends to watch "Football" (back when sportesnet did the triple header), and why he got so excited when he snuck into BMO when it was being build to see out "seats"

It defintely rejuvenated my love for the sport...

I was falling out of favour with it b/c watching the Premiership at 8am-9am-10am etc added no social value to it (I wasn't hitting the pub with buddies for beers at 11am - ok I would go but my buddies wouldn't)...

I've started playing after way too many years off - and have loved every second of it...

Another thing, I've fallen out of touch with some old friends (who dont like/understand footy) but met a ton of new friends...

Its been (as Tony the Tiger would say) GRRRRRRRRRRREAT! lol

08-15-2008, 05:49 PM
lol besides essays and seminars?

Being a kid from an Argentinean family, I was obligated to follow futbol in La Primera Division. Boca all the way!! (whatever random games Fox/Gol TV showed) plus listened to all their games on the radio (on the internet).

I support Chelsea and tried to watch as many of their games as possible.

I knew about MLS about two seasons before Toronto FC started and now I think I'm close to memorizing all their rules and weird transfer system. I probably know all the players or close in the MLS and I'm starting to memorize the fine details of our TFC players and how much they make :)

Memorizing their birthdays was a bitch lol.

I loved the Raptors and still do. Ottawa Senators and New England Patriots all the way!
and you guys might hate me for this, but I love the Toronto Argos, but obviously not as much as FC.

lol... jokes about the FC.
but yeah, really like the Argos and the Jays too.

oh one more thing.
THe Red Bulls are shite btw.

Ive followed the World Cup since USA94. I always played soccer because my dad is from Ireland so it was the first thing he signed us up for once we were old enough to play. I knew of the European leagues, but Ireland has never had a strong league so they didnt really register for me. I remember one friend wearing a Man U jersey, but club football never really caught my attention until about 2005. It was around the time I heard Toronto was building the downtown stadium and Toronto was getting an MLS franchise. I decided at that point to immerse myself in the global structure of the game and learn exactly how it all worked. By the time Toronto had played a game I had basically figured out all the ins and outs of club football and was pretty well obsessed. I started talking on other football boards to learn stuff from other perspectives. I found one that is fairly global, but with a small and friendly enough community to get answers from (not like the bigots at bigsoccer).

Anyway, im a pretty big fan of all sports so ive never been at a loss for stuff to obsess about. My sports addiction has really just been exacerbated to the nth degree since TFC came around.

I used to drink pails of Carlsburg in my basement by myself, now i drink pails of Carlsburg in within the confines of BMO field with others. Also now i have fashion shows by myself of me putting on my TFC gear and i strut in front of the mirror and slap a fake ass in front of me yelling "whos your daddy!!"

I joined up with an winter indoor league and an summer outdoor indoor??? league. Was lucky enough to go on a roadtrip with 5 pretty awesome people (Flush, Rooney and wife, etc) last year which further entrenched what I have been waiting for since 94 which is a place, a time, and fellow supporters to get behind the home team.

:ack2: Way too much information than we needed!

Seriously, I've been on again and off again with soccer. I started with the Detroit Express, because they were closest to me, from the late seventies, early eighties until they folded. Followed the Canadian Soccer League on TSN from the late eighties, early nineties until they folded. Watched World Cups, Euros.

I didn't pay much attention to MLS because there was no Canadian team to root for and I never seriously expected them to add one until the day the league announced they would add a team in Toronto. Since then, I have taken Toronto FC to heart as the team I follow and have just recently taken a membership with RPB.

There's no going back now. TFC 'TILL I DIE, BABY!!!

As for me... well I lead a team of 200 people online in WoW... prior to that it was some heavy poker action including regular house games, casinos and underground games... prior to that it was online chess vs Eastern Europeans that whooped my ass all the time... and finally prior to that it was school 24/7

Before the beautiful days of TFC, I used to watch the Maple Laughs:noidea:, and the Blue Jays. When the lock-out hit, my interest for hockey was pretty much lost. I rarely watch hockey, but when I do, I cheer for the Habs:(.
I always watched the world cups (since 2002), and the Euro Cups since 2004.
I watched my first TFC game late last season, when the boys were in Houston, and I only got serious about TFC before this season started.

From the NHL lock-out to the beginning of this season, my life had almost no sports in it.

Both my parents are from overseas, and so I've been watching World cups & such since I was a kid & played soccer when I was young. (Most memorable was in the exhibition - old Blue jays stadium) More recently, it's been work, work, work spend time with the family. Since TFC was announced it has been TFC, work, work & family. (My kids love TFC) Try to keep up with Bundesliga & EPL when I can. TFC has brought new life to my love of the sport, my wife is slowly turning around, & with the kids help she is greatly outnumbered.

S.L. Benfica brought into the futebol world and so i followed them on and off. I never really felt much of a connection to the team because its tough when you live a continent away and have trouble reading the language.

Therefore when TFC came to be i jumped into it hoping to enjoy some good futebol with highs and lows like any other futebol supporter goes through with their team.

I was also never a season ticket holder for ANYTHING before..... and when i called to find out what it would cost to buy season tix I got a buddies credit card number and bought three!!!!

in 98 I was playing Sr competitive soccer, the coach organized a bus trip/social to a Revs game - been following MLS ever since
in 99, same coach cut me, but recruited me to coach a youth team with him, been hooked on coaching ever since
in 2000 I saw the opportunity to combine soccer & education through coaching in the NCAA
Its been a great ride working to that goal - loads of footie
TFC just added a home base element in between post grad degrees & coaching licenses
