View Full Version : That is Not Offsides

What is up with Jason DeVos?

Ever since he began commentating just about any offsides call to him is either "a very close call" or "not offsides" when in reality he's 90% wrong.

Anyone else noticing this?

It's getting as repetitive as "World Class" from Craig Forrest.

In general, why do Americans call it "offsides"? I've seen it a bunch of times.

One of the dudes i stand with is from michigan, and it drives me bloody nuts

"serious... was that offsides"

"Man, cunny is always offsides"

"these refs need to learn what's offsides"

Most of the time i just stare... :noidea:

it's not just an american thing. my dad says it and he's an immigrant scot.

"offsides" i'm talking about.

back to topic.

jason de vos needs a little time i think to really get into his commentary. for the most part i think he does a good job. maybe he's just talking for the sake of talking when there's an offside call.

Ive always thought 'offsides' was more of a Canadian/hockey thing.

It's not a "Canadian hockey thing". It has always been just plain "offside".

I've heard Mo Johnston say "Offsides" before as well.

It irks me a little as well.

Oh well, now we know how yanks feel when Canadian baseball fans keep calling the guy behind the plate a "back" catcher.

You mean it's not a backcatcher? WTF is the dude's name? Their's the umpire too.

Never noticed it during the broadcast to be honest. I'll have to listen for it next time.

you guys needed to change it to rhyme with G, P, and V for the alphabet song. Poor american youth can't remember their alphabet if it doesn't rhyme.

potato/potato. Who cares? It's like when someone says "I had 6 beer last night" as opposed to "beers"

It is 'back' catcher.. why on earth would somebody catch a 'bat'?

The actual mistake is when ppl say bat-catcher.. I say it too because when your a kid growing up I think you assume it's that way

Surely offsideS is the plural as in... 'there have been 4 offsides in today's game.'

Surely offsideS is the plural as in... 'there have been 4 offsides in today's game.'

Well it depends really. Offside can become a noun or an adjective/verb depending on how you phrase.

There can be many 'offsides' called, as in the thing being an offside, a call made during play.

There can be the act of going 'offside' which is describing an action someone took.

So it's really just how you use the word :o

Fort York Redcoat

At the same time one can say there's been 4 offside today. As in 4 players caught offside. This thread is quite a different gear...

i cant believe we are having a discussion on the different uses of the word, its fantastic:P as for the english saying they had 6 beer...its somewhat relative to where they are from because that effects they way they speak, one of the lads i play with pretty much takes out all non-essential words in his sentences, close the door = close door, you doing alright? = alright.......yet when one swear word would suffice he used 6 or 7...wierd how that works :P
