Chad Barrett, Julius James, and Greg Sutton were the difference today. Honourable mention for Robbo who acquitted himself very well in the unfamiliar role of central defender...

This could be a game changer in a couple of ways. First, a tough win on the road, finally, could break a psychological barrier. Second, to show Carvston that some of the kids can step up and play with heart and talent. Next time Robert is loafing around, pull his ass.

Also, Robinson, Sutton and James are MEN.

People will find something to complain about even though we won.

Wow. I can't believe we won this game today.

Right before Barrett took that free kick, I wanted Robinson to take it, and to repeat the free kick goal he had last year. Barrett's goal was almost identical to Robinson's goal last year :)!

This game was a message from the reservers to the rest of the roster. If the regulars don't perform they will. The attack in the 88th minute was brilliant. I personally have been saying all season that they need to do more of this. It was the attack lead by Ibby, who ran out of room and passed it back to Smith. With the use of short, smart passes we got the ball inside the box and were a better cross away from a real quality scoring oppurtunity.

Sutton's gloves of glue were huge for us. Almost no rebounds. Everything that came his way was held or controlled.

This could be the game that turns the whole season around we are now tied for 4th with DC and could give our boys the confidence they need to go the rest of the way.

It is not all good however as once again the officiating was questionable. There were calls on both sides that should have been called and weren't called. MLS needs to get on top of the officiating issue. If they hope to compete with the other "Big 4" sports the need to take care of this.

For now let's enjoy the win. It's been a long time coming. Good work REDS.

TFC!!! TFC!!!

Two VERY poor sides, but well played to the team today - got what we wanted. The strikeforces were awful on both sides however. Robinson played well at centre back.

The Good
-3 pts!!!
-Barrett's stunning freekick
-Attakora-Gyan standing tall like a man in the defence, with good sub appearance by Gala
-Dichio making his return
-Sutton making another good performance

The Bad
-Not creating enough from open play, esp not being able to exploit Colorado's 3 man D on the flanks
-The ref, as usual

The Ugly
-being pinned back by Colorado... when they are only playing with 10 men
-Marshall's injury
-Thuggery by Colin Clark

As far as the bad/ugly it's hard to pin back and think offensively when you are playing to protect the win with the inexperience we played today.

The good, you're right on.

I think the games have been pretty well played recently, but Colorado was just terrible, the weather was way too hot, the fans sucked and the referee was a mess. That pretty much encapsulates the bad side of the MLS experience. It was exciting, though.

I'm so happy I could cry. What a character performance. What a great feeling to not be focused on the officiating - terrible though it was.

Well done lads, well done Chad!

I hope Mo is going to have the busiest week of his life ahead of him so we don't end up in this situation too often, but that's a thread for another day.

Huge effort in the second half, good constant defensive pressure, a lot of help from Colorado playing lifelessly. We seemed to handle the climate reasonably well.

Barrett? What can you say? Outside of the fucking beautiful free kick -- which no one would've stopped, curled right into the side netting -- he was also directing traffic upfront through the game, pointing out space to Ibrahim and Smith, holding the ball up when necessary. I wish, to an extent, that his lateral movement had been there; he was mostly backwards and forwards, despite making a couple of nice diagonal dashes.

Smith was shaky in the first half, more solid in the second, and his runs through the middle in the second half used up a lot of the clock.

Gala was extremely impressive, holding off a guy as strong as Ihemelu until he shoved him over in anger (and didn't get a card) and booted the ball away (and didn't get a card). Great with the ball at his feet and looking alert to the possibilities offensively; moved the ball around.

Ibee is going to be a hell of a striker, eventually; his movement and ideas are superb, and he passed with really good weight. But he seriously, seriously needs to add some muscle to that frame.

James was excellent in the second half. A couple of those tackles were truly sick.

Having said all of this, of course, we didn't have enough creativity to create much offensively, past the first 10 minutes or so. If we'd had Guevara out there it would've helped, and even though he's not a forward I'd still prefer Robert to Smith. Was he injured? He was on the Sportsnet roster at the beginning of the game but I didn't even see a shot of him on the bench.(Please Mo, don't send him to LA for Ruiz. I'd have to buy a sniper rifle with a scope specially designed to heat-seak Guatemelan cliff divers.)

Harmse did pretty well, and had a couple of impressive runs. He second-guessed himself a couple of times and almost took a couple of legs off, but otherwise good. Robbo deputized well at the back; I believe they're wrong about him never having played there, I could swear I remember him having filled in there at Norwich or Wolves.

Ricketts was in and out of the game, and managed to be dangerous a few times.

We need as striker. But then, we all knew that already.

Ok, for that to be 11,000, the other side of the stands would have to be packed to the rafters; it's a bowl-style arena and seats 18,000. And there's no way there was more than 2,000 on the sunny (camera) side.
