Guevara Suspended (http://thestar.blogs.com/torontofc/2008/08/guevara-suspend.html)

What did I tell you about MLS and their late-breaking news releases?
At just before 6 p.m. the league sent out word on their decision regarding Amado Guevara:
One game suspension and a $250 fine. That's in addition to the one game suspension and $250 fine he received automatically with his red card Sunday afternoon.
That means he misses Saturday's game in Colorado and the following week's game in New York.
At some point he links up with the rest of Honduras' national team for an Aug. 20 World Cup qualifier against Mexico, so barring anything unexpected he'll return for TFC's Aug. 23 home game against New England.
And if you were one of the few people still holding out hope that Paul Dickov would sign with TFC, here's even more good news for you:
He had signed with Leicester (http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11719_3946122,00.html).
So to recap:
No Guevara until late August and no new striker.
Transfer period ends next Friday.
Have a good weekend.

Also on the league's site there is a suspension that I don't think anyone else has seen:

Carmelo Lobue
Toronto FC
Suspension/Fine: 8/9/08 vs. COL, $500
Reason: Dismissal

That's right our trainer got suspended for the August 9th match in Colorado too.

Time for the youngsters to step in and stake their claim.
Guevarra and Robert have been disappointing for a while, and now Carver has no excuse but to give guys like Heming another shot.

another game is usually expected with a straight-red (or even 2 yellows in one game)....i don't understand the mystery.

It'd be a hell of a gesture, if we present TFC with a cheque in the amount of the tariner's or Guevara's fine...
Personally, the one game ban would be enough... The extra game (and another full season's worth) should go to the asshole ref who completely ignored his linesman's input on the play...

Your kidding right?

You want us to ante up for a guy who made a bonehead selfish act that cost us the game. Guevera cost us the game and the points and now you want us to pay his fine????

If I was carver or mo I would sit him down for another 2 games. It is selfish plays like his and not playing like a team that has cost us the season.

I don't disagree with dicipline for a player that did a selfish act (which it was, it was provoked but still selfish) BUT, we don't have the luxury of being able to sit down Guevara...

His punishment might have to be getting his asskicked by Whinsper over the next couple of weeks - but we can't go into a game where Guevara is available and not use him...

Guevara might learn what the Canadian term "hurl runs" mean ('bag skate' for the hockey boys) over the next two weeks...

Does anyone know what the trainer actually did to get sent off. I can imagine a few things but an official word on what the reason was for the sending off , other than 'dismissal', would be...well...closure.

Carmelo should've keep his mouth shut and just worry about players that get injured. The Toronto player (Brennan) was at least 2 yards off-side and little pee wee let the assistant have it. Read Law 11 before you open your mouth.

the olympics are an u23 tournament only.. while teams are capable of taking 3 over age players.. amado was not chosen or mayb honduras did not take any over age players

Why anyone would be surprised by this is beyond me.

Straight red very rarely ends up as anything other than 2+ games in the MLS. In this instance he cleaned the guy's clock, so it's a good thing they didn't extend his suspension.

I'd like to be able to read more about a review policy. You read about it in EPL all the time so it would be nice to see that the league was reviewing things (says Velez's first yellow) or that TFC could at least appeal decisions. Maybe this is possible but it certainly isn't clear if it happens or not.

Shaughno
08-08-2008, 11:11 AM
^^ There's no point in appealing yellow cards anyway. They won't overturn the cards and it just makes you look like a complainer, which the league already thinks Carver is.
