So a Canadian soccer podcast recently suggested that "all Canadians" might want to get aboard the CF Montreal train because they are possibly the next Canadian team to win the Eastern conference and maybe even the MLS Cup.

So I'll put it to you all. g:D Will you be cheering for Montreal?

When we don't make the playoffs I don't "cheer" for anybody but I sure root against certain teams. Montreal is one of them.

Vancouver I could probably be positive for.

Definitely not Montreal.

Nah not even Vancouver with their cheapskate ownership group.

I can feel bad for some whitecap fans on account of their cheapskate owner (as I would for any other franchise in that spot).

But some of the guys who insist Vancouver is the soccer capital of Canada can revel in their own misplaced sense of importance… I’ll continue to enjoy them scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Pretty sure we could have all predicted the results on this one. I have family that live in Montreal and I am not even sure how I feel about them since they live there :)

Sooner support Montreal than Vancouver. Montreal's coach is calm and likeable. Vancouver's coach is a buffoon. Also Vancouver has that meathead Cavallini.

Whitecaps? Can't forgive the abuse charges.

Impact - their Ultras are a effin disgrace

I'd rather support freaking Red Bulls....and Red Bulls would be 3rd from the bottom.

Anyways, which bunch of tossers suggested we all support Montreal?

is this a serious question?

I thought it was a dumb suggestion when I came across it and expected most people wouldn't support it. City rivalries don't stop just because there is only one Canadian team in the playoffs! Especially one as strong as Toronto vs Montreal. For example Montrealers didn't cheer for TFC in 2017. I've heard this suggestion before for hockey, again I can't see Leafs fans cheer for the Habs. It's different for baseball because there is literally only one Canadian team.

Now with teams from the CPL I can see TFC fans and supporters possibly support them because it's different league, not rivals (except in the Canadian Championship).

The city rivalries go away of course when its the CMNT, then what city the player is from doesn't matter.

montreal's record against playoff teams is very bad, wouldn't be shocked to see them lose in the first round

Veru true, but have to give them props for offering 1/2 price food and drinks.
MLSE would never do anything remotely close to that.

LOL

Not supporting but will probably watch the matches though. As much as I hate to admit it, Montreal is an entertaining team to watch. The only reason I'd like them to go further into the playoffs is for the CMNT players to keep playing longer and remain match fit.
Not saying I want them to win MLS Cup, but even if, it's important to remember, TFC was 1st. :scarf:

IF Vancouver somehow makes it to the playoffs, now that I'm living here, here I might go watch (as a casual of course) so long as they're not insanely expensive, but I doubt Vancouver even qualifies let alone makes it past the first round. The level of fan support here is abysmal. It's quite sad. Not Columbus Crew, NER sad, but not too far off.
Maybe a TFC away trip invasion ala Columbus Crew is needed.
Vancouver is a nice city but a few thousand TFC supporters would make it even better.:flare::drum:

Supporting MTL is Anti-TFC behaviour. Fuck them. They'll be out in the first round.

Micheal Singh listed off some great stats about how shit they are against top 4 teams from each conference since June. They have just as shit a record against Playoff bound teams.
They are not good - the East is just shit.

Fuck Montreal. Fuck their Bell. Fuck all their name changes.

In the spirit of fuck Montreral, can we get a "BMO" out thread. Why in the world do we still have a Montreal bank as a sponsor.

BMO is a Toronto bank...with a name left over from its past.

BMO is a Toronto bank...with a name left over from its past.

Officially BMO's HQ are still in Montreal, in a grand old building across the street from Notre Dame Cathedral in old Montreal. However the CEO Darryl White and most of the senior executives are based out of First Canadian Place at the corner of King and Bay St in downtown Toronto. The Montreal head office is maintained for political purposes.

The bank has been rebranding itself in recent years under the name BMO Financial Group and de-emphasizing the use of Montreal in its name.

The bank will be introducing a new ad campaign this fall that will feature a series of commercials with Alphonso Davies.

TD (Toronto-Dominion) is the obvious choice by original name but they don't sponsor sports teams.

Instead they waste their money on environmental issues and child literacy :wink5:

Anyway, BMO's real hq is in Toronto at First Canadian Place. I've seen the ancient original head office in Montreal that's nominally the headquarters (because of their original charter) and its an interesting museum piece, but I couldn't imagine more than a small percentage of their staff working there. BMO is really a Canadian bank, not a Montreal bank.

Fun fact: First Canadian Place is called that because BMO was planning in the 1970's to drop all associations to Montreal due to Quebec separatism in the era and rename themselves "First Canadian Bank." A suitable name because they are the oldest Canadian bank in existence. They dropped the plan after spending a lot of effort on it for reasons I don't know, maybe it was too difficult.

It all depends on who they draw. If they draw Orlando or Columbus I think they are headed for an early exit

Dont' kill me but I'll be cheering for Montreal. As this is a world cup year, we need some of our key Canadians playing as long as possible, especially with Oso not looking likely to make the World cup and Kaye in terrible form.

With you.

I am especially focused on Kone, and want him to excel, sneaking suspicion he may be a starter in Qatar.
