Saturday, July 23:

Miami @ NYCFC – 7pm – Taty trade watch? Does he leave the club, get loaned back to them? He has 33% of the team’s goals and they would need to find a replacement if they want to stay in the running. Poz meanwhile got his first start and had a nice chip to Higuaín that was called back for offside.

Nashville @ Cincinnati – 7:30pm – Cincinnati only 1 win in last 9 games. Nashville have taken 2 and drawn once in the 3 times they have met.

New England @ Columbus – 7:30pm – Supporter’s shield winners last year seem to be struggling this year. Maybe they need to rely on Jozy & Omar some more. Rumor is he might be getting traded.

Philadelphia @ Orlando – 7:30pm – Philly with the least amount of goals conceded in the league with 15, showing defence really is the way to stay atop the rest.

Montreal @ D.C. -8pm on TSN – Rooney should be taking over as head coach, but doesn’t change the fact they have leaked 41 goals up to this point & tied with San Jose for most against. Also just traded away one of their better players to Whitecaps.

Minnesota @ Houston – 8:30pm – Minnesota should win this, not much to say here.

LAFC @ Kansas City – 8:30pm – SKC a team that leaks goals and can’t score, LAFC shouldn’t have much trouble staying on top of the West with a win here

Dallas @ RSL – 10pm – meh…I don’t know what else to say? RSL in 3rd, Dallas in playoff spot. Did Jozy ever end up getting part ownership in the club? Why didn’t he go there?

Colorado @ Seattle – 10pm – “Seattle just not the same team that won CCL” hard loss on the weekend, do they bounce back this year or will they not even make playoffs? See what Priso has in himself if he starts getting more regular minutes.

Chicago @ Vancouver – 10pm on TSN – Could Chicago be rounding into form with a win against CCL champs Seattle…probably not. If they could beat Vancouver it could be good for us going into the Can champ finals a few days later.

San Jose @ Portland – 10:30pm – Portland have pulled points out of their last 6 games, playing against the leagues worst goals against with 41.

Sunday, July 24:

Red Bulls @ Austin – 8pm – Should be a good match between two teams close to the top of their conference. A win from Austin would further separate the top two in the West from the rest of the pack

Atlanta @ Galaxy – 9:30pm on TSN – LA is complaining that they are not playing as a team. But Atlanta have Dwyer who has 4 goals and 6 shots on target. How did he not have a shot on target for 2 years?

Been there...done that....some games just defy the ability to give a damn.

Just watched the highlights from the Austin v Red Bulls. The Austin goals were quite nice, Driussi had two really great goals. Looking at stats, shots were even for both sides but Austin had 79% possession. Red bulls even had two more goals called back for offside, their first goal was a pretty bad mistake from the keeper too.

Overall the results this weekend were good for us. Miami, Orlando, DC, Atlanta all lost. Columbus, Cinci and New England had draws. The only result that didn’t help us was Chicago winning because Vancouver rotated heavily. The top four in the east are likely to make the playoffs, but everyone else has a chance (maybe not DC).

It’s crazy how close the teams are this year.

It’s crazy how close the teams are this year.
Also teams have a lot fewer points per game. Last year the 7th place team finished the year with 1.41 PPG. This year the 7th place team is on 1.27. That’s almost 5 points over the course of the season. It may not be too much, but that could easily be the difference between us making the playoffs and not.
Our remaining games against the east are almost entirely against teams we need to pass to make the playoffs (other than Philly and probably Montreal). Any win against these teams is also a win they can’t get.

Thank God it’s the reality this year, it’s the only thing that’s kept the team in the playoff hunt!
