Who knows what we may see. Hopefully they can get motivated to face their biggest rival. But at least some of us RPB and fellow supporters will be back on the road and in the stands at Saputo. Heck it could not be worse than the 6-0 loss I saw there many years ago. Looking forward to the beer flowing at McLeans as always though.

How do you imagine the roster politics are going right now?

Perez: "I'm planning to sit Omar and play Mavinga with Morrow the rest of the way, Maybe Auro in a pinch, although there is the height issue..."

Ali: "Omar Gonzalez is a proven winner in this league and we have to play him." (Jesus H, don't let anyone figure out the CB I signed for $1.3m a year is crocked...)

Coming up on ten years since he was a proven winner.
Yesterday's home runs don't win today's games.

Signing Omar in 2019 turned our defence around on our run to the MLS Cup. He's been on the decline since then however.

If clearing the bar in year one on that signing was a 5/10, he was 5.000001

Even in year one, when we went up against the best teams, it was he was not an asset and certainly not worth his salary.

Caldwell noted during the game that he was absolutely spent, energy wise, by the 70th minute.

He's a fucking center back. He runs about a third of the distance of anyone in the midfield. And he doesn't run, so why is he exhausted?

The dude is completely spent.

At this point, the only defenders I trust to do the job on this team are Mavinga, Morrow and Auro, and the latter is too short to play centrally. Morrow's 35 but at least he's played there before, in San Jose.

Playing Gonzalez and Zavaleta is suicide.

agree with all of this. gonzalez has been a liability for 2 years, zavaleta 4 years.

if ali curtis extends gonzalez's contract, we can basically wave goodbye to any substantial rebuild.

gonzalez being released and jozy bought out/ sold/ contract canceled by mutual consent are the two most urgent points of business this summer.

There's a young defender I'd sign from Peru in a heartbeat, eighteen, playing week in and out in the first division for two seasons, still largely undiscovered and rated below 500K.

We'll sign some crocked retread MLS first-round draft pick from 2011.

Turns out the guy I was tracking was invited to train with Arsenal this summer, but they pulled out because he's multi-owned (like Soteldo). Arsenal has a policy against third-party ownership signings.

Still, someone huge will sign him long before MLS opens its sleepy eyes. He's still at that age and experience where they could structure a deal to be much larger based on performance over time, but this league still has a long way to go on paying attention to smaller countries.

The most interesting thing about this fixture, minus that it's these losers we're playing, is to see if we are in fact 2018 TFC again. If we come out roaring, focused, and lay it on MTL then it's the arrogance and shit attitude again that doomed the season. If we come out trash like usual then at least we can confirm we're trash and can't get up for anything.

Regardless, this match is fitting for a solid weed drink and a few pints.

I cannot say I agree at this stage. Pace isn’t there and he gets targeted on practically every corner. Passing is several steps below what top Central mids in this league now do. Someone like Joao Paolo for example fully connects to the frontline and can assist on goals while breaking up the play. Bradley plays sideways passes and cannot split the lines.

If you're unsure, desperation clearance for a cirner/throw/anywhere. If you can see a teammate there, then sure let it go, if not, you have to make the play. He let it roll by him without making an effort

Come on man, Bradley had no friggin idea the goal scorer was right behind him because he never looked in that direction. Watch his head movement before the goal. Was far from the only problem n the goal, but a significant one.

Not sure who is playing what, but that was either Poz or Oso’s man. Both of them were no where near the play.

Our 2 CB's went to the 6 yard box - they had 3 guys along the top of the penalty area & only Bradley covered. That's a planned play, possibly based on analytics brought to people's attention at the half or during the game.

MightyDM

Uggh… thought on that play?

You can’t say he doesn’t look a step or two slow. Has to cut that ball out

That was Oso or Poz missing their man.

I’m not saying Bradley is what he was. But he is much better and more important to this team than some on here think.

In that position, as the DM, Priso steps to that ball, as does Delgado or Osorio.

Disagree. He has played pretty well in the circumstances. People who think he is the problem are focusing on the odd mistake - more than he used to make, agreed - rather than all the other solid play.

It didn’t have a lot of pace on it. He has to get there

a) Westberg is better then Bono

We played very well for most of the match. But we’re sloppy on defense as we have been all season.

My lessons;

Unfortunately, OKello isn’t ready. And Richie isn’t the player he thinks he is at the moment. Mavinga is still starting quality. We need a striker and a starting defender. Oso is out of sorts. Running like he has a tight hamstring. Soteldo was the wrong player to bring in; we didn’t need a tricky winger with all the midfielders we had.

Time for fire sale and start over. Bono, Pozuello, Soltado, Altidore, Bradley, Auro, Zavaleta, Dwyer, Mullins, Lawrence, Gonzoles, Delgado should be traded, released or bought out. Play the youngsters the rest of the season to see if they can compete. Keep Osorio, Mavinga and Westburg as veteran presence.

I blame MLS for not having relegation. We'd never of had to endure 10 years of incompetence after the first relegation. The stain of that would be on the record of MLSE for all eternity. Who knows maybe MLSE would have scrapped the whole soccer experiment in TFC with their management, lmao.

I was thinking more along the lines of a once proud club, previously in contention for doubles and trebles, now sitting at the bottom and looking like it will be a long road back to the top if the people running the club can accidentally find their way. A club run by a sports conglomerate that will splash cash but can’t find the right people to make day to day decisions. A club that struggles to find a manager to replace the one that led them through the glory times, who thinks that some mention of Pep is qualification to run a squad. A club that struggles with fitness issues. A club that awards contracts to big names, past their prime players who then handcuff the payroll going forward. A team that brings in players without addressing positions of need. A team that should have a top academy but can’t seem to bleed a top homegrown player. A team in need of a defender and brings in Omar/Luiz. A club whose fanbase now has to look at shit rivals and momentarily think “shit they look like a better run club”. A club that talks about trophies without meaning the league title.

That is why Arsenal came to mind. I’m not a gooner but have a soft spot for the gunners.

Yeah I see the comparison although Arsenal had a much longer period of sustained success.

Vanney really should have been our Wenger. MLSE should have done more to keep him, whether that's money or promoting, everyone has a price. Look at how they pulled all the stops to keep Massai at the Raptors. Same should have happened here.

I think they tried to keep him, but if the "price" is family -- there's a significant portion of people for whom that's the ultimate deciding factor.

It would have been hard to keep him away from LA. But I think the best chance of retaining him would have involved having Curtis and Manning out of the picture.

Look at the path these guys have sent us down. Having Chris Armas come in and try to play an entirely foreign style not suited for our roster. You can’t tell me Vanney didn’t hear similarly hair-brained ideas in his time as coach and think “get me out of here!”

Masai isn't a coach or manager though. I see the point in holding on to a great President or GM that has a plan, connections, and vision but usually managers wear out their welcome or the message gets stale. I get Vanney wanted to be closer to home and that happens but sometimes it's better to refresh the on field voice every 5 to 10 years or else you end up like Arsenal; winning nothing of consequence forever.

Bigger issue here was letting Bez go, although he may prove to be a short term guy who leaves a cap mess behind, he still had a vision. Bigger problem was Manning catastrophically selecting Curtis as the next guy to lead the ship. Curtis & Armas have been like the iceberg in Titanic for us but in the end it might be for the best. This will probably sever the last strings of nostalgia towards the 2017 season so we can fully rebuild.

Unless Manning selects another guy like Curtis as GM and we get somebody like Olsen in as manager.

Hindsight is 20/20. I would have promoted Vanney to GM/Manager or whatever combo he wanted, and get Ali to work the cap. Was that attempted? Probably not.

All I know is Manning went on autopilot and Ali sank the ship. We're literally the Titanic now.

Gringo Starr

Bez made mistakes but seemed to have the awareness to recognize and fix mistakes Ali doesn't seem to be aware that a problem exists.

Losing Vanney should not be the issue, managers move on all the time even good ones but clearly there is no one above with a vision or plan to find the next manager, the next gm. I see no reason for hope until Ali and Manning are gone
