Coach Carver crying the blues
Refers questions about acquiring new players before deadline to club director Johnston

MORGAN CAMPBELL

Last Friday Toronto FC head coach John Carver said he hoped to have signed a new striker by Sunday's game against FC Dallas.
When that game came and went with no new additions to the club, Carver said TFC was waiting out a few delays at the player's end, but still close to signing him.
But when asked after practice yesterday whether TFC was hoping to close the deal Carver had a simple answer:
Ask Mo Johnston.
Carver also acknowledged that with Olivier Tebily gone, Marvell Wynne at the Olympics and Todd Dunivant sidelined for the season with a fractured ankle, the team also needs a new defender badly. But when asked when help might arrive, Carver again referred the question to his colleague.
Ask Mo Johnston.
But that wasn't possible.
At least not yesterday.
Johnston, the team's director of soccer and the man responsible for drafts, trades and transfers, watched part of yesterday's practice from the west-side bleachers, but declined reporters' interview requests.
Right now it's not clear whether the two men are at odds or simply frustrated with the slow pace of negotiations with the striker they'd like to sign. Carver's cryptic comments hinted at a rift, but Johnston's silence didn't confirm or deny it.
But Carver did make it plain that his team – which hasn't won a league game since June 14 – needs a talent upgrade.

TFC's Edu on cover of 'FIFA Soccer 09'
THE CANADIAN PRESS

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Toronto FC midfielder Maurice Edu is going from the pitch to pixels.

Edu will grace the cover of EA Sports' "FIFA Soccer 09" video game in North America, along with Brazilian star Ronaldinho and Mexican national team 'keeper Guillermo Ochoa.

Edu, 22, is in his second season with Toronto after being selected first overall in the 2007 MLS Superdraft and then being named rookie of the year.

Reds Fans Watch Players Practice

Toronto FC held Open Practice on Tuesday

Around 3000 supporters were at BMO Field on Tuesday to watch the 2008 Toronto FC Open Practice, presented by Danone. Reds fans were able to watch the players go through their training session and listen to Coach John Carver talk about what goes on behind the scenes at BMO Field. After training, players spent an hour signing autographs and throwing gifts into the crowd. "I think it's been great," said Carver.

Dichio and Barrett recovering

TFC also looking to strengthen club before Sept. 15 trade deadline

Toronto FC striker Danny Dichio trained with the team on Tuesday but isn't expected to be fit for Saturday's game at Colorado Rapids. Dichio has been out since early July with concussion. "He's joined in this morning with some of the work, but we don't know if he will be o.k. tomorrow," said coach John Carver. "We just don't know how he is going to respond, so it's a difficult situation. I've got to be a realist, and I can't see Danny playing this weekend because he's not even headed a ball yet."

Dichio still on the road to recovery

Toronto FC will have to make do without forward Danny Dichio for a little while longer.
Dichio, 33, hasn't played for the Major League Soccer club since suffering a concussion in a 1-0 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps in a Canadian Champions League game on Canada Day.
The Englishman, who leads Toronto in scoring with five goals this season, took part in some light training with his teammates Tuesday morning.
Toronto could use Dichio in the lineup, as the team is winless in its last six regular season contests — and its past 11 games overall — having last tasted victory on June 14
But Toronto coach John Carver doesn’t believe he'll be ready to play in Saturday's road contest against the Colorado Rapids.
"I can’t see Danny playing on Saturday," admitted Carver.

Yesterday's practice featured a pair of Canadians on a trial, including Toronto native David Simpson, a 25-year-old free agent who played most recently with AC Sparta Prague in the Czech Republic.

THATS WHO IT WAS!~!

THere were plenty of pics taken at the practice, I hope to see them on the board today!

so are we gonna get Ljunberg now that he's been sacked at West Ham? Hell Ajax is making major changes, Leonardo, Kennedy Bakircioglu, Dennis Rommedahl, Albert Luque, Kenneth Perez, Jurgen Colin, Laurent Delorge, and George Ogararu. For those of you who ever played championship manager, Kennedy Bakircioglu was the man back in the late 90's early '00's in that. Why not go after some of these guys?

Dennis Rommedahl would be an absolute terror in defence...... i have no idea why they're letting him go
