TFC steaming mad after loss to Dallas
Two players ejected and facing suspension; Carver's crew cries foul
Morgan Campbell

In the aftermath of Toronto FC's 2-0 loss to FC Dallas yesterday, a quartet of police officers at midfield closed ranks around the game officials while the home crowd booed and a few Dallas players came by to shake hands.
A few yards away, TFC captain Jim Brennan fumed.
Like his teammates, he was angry about some of the officials' calls made, others not made and the overall state of refereeing in the game. When he trotted toward the officials, Brennan wasn't thinking of shaking hands and that's when head coach John Carver – for once the cooler head in a heated situation – headed him off and ushered him away.
Later, Brennan said Carver did him a favour by stepping between him and the referee.
"The fans were clapping us off because they know we had a good showing before the game got spoiled," Brennan said. "Everybody was pulling everybody away because we're all getting frustrated."

Late penalty sinks Toronto FC

What does Toronto FC have to do to win another game?
That's the question fans of the hapless Canadian club were left asking themselves after Toronto lost its first regular season game at home this season, dropping a 2-0 decision to FC Dallas Sunday afternoon at BMO Field.
Toronto midfielder Amado Guevara was red carded in the 79th minute for an off-the-ball foul inside the box (he hit out in retaliation against Pablo Ricchetti and gave him a bloody nose), and Dallas forward Kenny Cooper converted from the penalty spot.
Toronto is winless in its last six Major League Soccer regular season contests — and its past 11 games overall — having last tasted victory on June 14. Toronto hadn't lost a league game at BMO Field since a 2-1 loss to the Columbus Crew on Sept. 22, 2007, a stretch of 11 consecutive games.

Cooper's kick seals Toronto FC's fate
THE CANADIAN PRESS

TORONTO -- Toronto FC is in danger of seeing its Major League Soccer season unravel after an ugly 2-0 loss to FC Dallas on Sunday at BMO Field left the home side with a host of problems.

Already missing four possible starters, Toronto FC (6-8-4) lost two more key players to suspension for at least its next game after star midfielder Amado Guevara and defender Marco Velez were ejected in Toronto's first loss at home in 10 games this season.

Guevara's red card for striking Pablo Ricchetti in the face in the penalty area well away from the ball gave the Dallas midfielder a bloody nose, resulting in a penalty kick for MLS all-star Kenny Cooper.

The MLS scoring leader made no mistake with the freebie in the 81st minute. He then went on to score his 13th goal of the season in injury time with undisciplined Toronto two men short, snapping the Canadian team's 11-game home undefeated streak that dated back to last September.

Raise a little hell
TFC and its fans incensed as referee's call leads to loss

By FRANK ZICARELLI, SUN MEDIA

Holy Toledo!
Referee Baldomero Toledo emerged from yesterday's bedlam at BMO as public enemy No. 1 when he committed the cardinal sin of officiating.
Rather than let the players decide the game's outcome, Toledo became the story in the most bizarre of fashions that likely will reach Major League Soccer's executive level.
When the day had ended, Toronto FC was left to reflect on yet another frustrating defeat, this time a 2-0 setback to FC Dallas that pushed the Reds' winless streak to six games.
When the final whistle had been blown, TFC was reduced to nine players.
The team's newest addition, striker Chad Barrett, couldn't even finish the game after his fickle right leg cramped up in the second half.
"The game got spoiled," TFC captain Jim Brennan said.
It got spoiled because Toledo and his crew lost control and lost sight of their primary duties.

Game ends on emotional, violent note

After an 'encouraging' start, Toronto lets go of match in second half - and loses two players to suspension, to boot

LARRY MILLSON

TORONTO -- This time, Toronto FC head coach John Carver took the calm, measured approach in discussing yesterday's 2-0 loss to FC Dallas in a Major League Soccer game that ended with high emotion.
By the time Toronto's first league home loss of the season ended, the team was down to nine men because of ejections, and midfielder Amado Guevara and defender Marco Velez will be suspended for next Saturday's game in Colorado against the Rapids.
Carver has worn his convictions on his sleeve in previous post mortems and has let his passion for the game gush to the surface.
Not this time.
He did allow that the way the team's luck has been going, "I think I've run over a black cat." An incident that took place away from the ball left Dallas midfielder Pablo Ricchetti with a bloody nose.
The crowd of 20,247 was unhappy with the officiating, and some beverage cups found their way to the pitch.

wasn't too long ago we were third in the league.........

this is a league of emotions.... no doubt about it. The MLS table has done a complete 180 since the beginning of the season.... for the most part anyway

Who is this FRANK ZICARELLI guy of the Toronto Sun?

Nice to see someone actually call it as they see it. Somewhat refreshing since Morgan Campbell is becoming very predictable.

Dude, Morgan Campbell thought Velez got two yellows for yelling at the ref? That's just lazy journalism.

I know. I can't believe that we're only 4 points up on San Jose who are last in the league. It's insane how bad the team is playing lately. If we keep this up, we'll be in last in a couple weeks.

Velez, enraged at a non-call, yelled at the referee until he received two yellow cards and an early exit.

I'm sure the Pulitzer is just around the corner.
