FYI St. Louis is a huge soccer city, the city has produced more players for the USMNT than anywhere else I believe. I may be wrong but at one time half the US team was from the city.

Watch the movie "The Game of Our Lives" - it explains it there.

St. Louis has a long history as one of the major hotbeds of soccer in the United States. During the early years of soccer, St. Louis was the western outpost of the major soccer regions, as immigrant communities brought their game to the major industrial centers of the country. Unlike other regions, St. Louis was known mostly for the major amateur clubs that achieved national distinction in the US. Open Cup and National Amateur Cup during the middle part of the 20th century. Between 1920 and 1957, six different teams won the US Open Cup. Later, as the amateur circuit faded in prominence, St. Louis enjoyed distinction as a hotbed for college soccer as St. Louis University won a string of consecutive NCAA titles during the 1960s. Success at the amateur level paid off in bigger ways, as St. Louis players had a prominent rule on the National Team. Five of the 11 players on the team that defeated England in the 1950 World Cup were from St. Louis, and every World Cup squad had at least one St. Louis player on its roster. In addition, twenty St. Louis soccer personalities are enshrined in the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
When the North American Soccer League began play in 1967, the St. Louis Stars, a charter franchise, pioneered a developmental policy that emphasized recruitment and development of local American talent, bucking the league’s trend towards employing aging international stars. More recently, St. Louis has been primarily known for its indoor soccer teams, and the city’s importance in the national soccer scene has been muted as fans look for the possibility of a Major League Soccer team to bring the region back into prominence. But the city still enjoys a reputation as a key part in the development of US soccer throughout the early years of the sport in the country.

Daaaaaammmmmmn. That crest does look sweet. They need to drop the pansy lookin green crap though and put something else in there. The rider seems alittle out of proportion as well but the idea is tops.

St Louis looks too small because he's riding a giant warhorse.

I'd like another FC in the league, to help the masses 'get it'

It like to see SC St Louis, there needs to be some variety.

And, for the people who hate the word soccer, the S can also stand for Sports/Sporting.

It looks like St. Louis 'gets it' here. An excellent logo in comparison to much of the crap seen in the MLS.

Wow, that's a really great crest. Almost better than Toronto FC's.

...almost. :D

I think "Sporting St. Louis" would be a pretty good team name.

Or how about "Please Please Come to Our Games St. Louis"?

In St. Louis, where refugees represent 10 percent of the population according to the city's International Institute, this is especially true with the Bosnian community which totals about 30,500 people out of the more than 45,000 refugees living in St. Louis. That's one reason.

that's very recent tho, last 10-15 years.

probably only reason they might have a chance at atmosphere cos that's about all the foreigners they have, my bet is still it's gonna be Rapids 2.

if the mls starts putting soccer clubs in citys that dont care for it, (much like the way they do with hockey clubs in the nhl in america) they will not break thru into the "big 4" (nba, nfl, mlb, nhl)

It's called St. Louis United as the group that is putting this together, merged all the big Youth Clubs into one to create a youth structure underneath what will be the senior team.

At least that's what I remember from the last round of expansion fun.

My suggestion has always been: St. Louis AFC

And I'm not totally sure, but I don't believe the crest shown is what's been agreed upon for the potential club. I think it's just a random design someone put up and people are running with it. I agree that it looks pretty kick-ass, though.

id rather see Portland get a team. Anyone see them on Fox Sports World last night vs Seattle?????

wow Portland had some good supporters and although the stadium was a little wierd shapped because its a baseball stadium it didnt look to bad. And with that roof on the stadium the noise was amazing, you could here all the songs clear and loud, it seriously sounded better then any MLS club including us. Makes me jealous!!!!!!!!!

You know of course Mayor Sam Adams is in the middle of a scandal? Why should his vote even count?

The MLS should view Wednesday's vote as illegitimate as Adams is facing Recall in June.

Sick. Totally sick

I haven't bothered to read the thread so I'm not sure if it's been said or not, but at one point most of the US national team came from St. Louis. It's a city with a strong soccer history, there are no doubts there.

Edit: Just realized this thread was from months ago. Um...
