No point ignoring the obvious. We are going to have trouble until we get Altidore and Mavinga back and integrated.

Chicago are a decent side. We are not favourites Saturday.

It is not must win, but we definitely need to start playing a lot better (we have been regressing) .... and win 5 of 6 (or something like that) at some point during the next 10 games.

Lol everyone.

Re: Edwards. Yes. Why wouldn’t Chicago want to jump on the well worn path of a former TFC player screwing us? Maybe they only got him for that reason?

Jozy might play today.

Of note in this article

His foot was broken for 18 months & the guy played through it.

2015 me - WOW the boyz are getting back. Things are looking up. Good mix of veteran & youngsters on the bench too.

2018 me - I'm going to pump the brakes on optimism tonight. Jozy & Mavinga will be rusty & there is still nobody back there making defensive play calls. We are likely to lose this one. We only got one forward in the subs & he played a ton of ineffectual minutes 72 hours ago. A lot more to go wrong here then to go right.

Nice to see some familiar faces back in the side, however we are far too laborious in our build up. We need to move the ball foward much quicker and accurately if we’re to take the three points tonight. For those of us who still cling to the remote possibility of making the playoffs, all three points tonight are a must

OgtheDim
07-21-2018, 07:09 PM
Boring stuff from Chicago. One bit of "whoops" from Morgan let in Edwards & Zavs watched the ball sail past him - should have been a goal for Nicolic there.

We look the better team for the first time in a loooong while - more likely to score. A lot of rust going on out there tonight between Jozy & everybody but gosh we missed him. Will take this so far.

Agreed, we need a more credible threat on the counter. Teams seem to believe they can hold a high line on Giovinco and still recover to catch him if he beats the trap. Can’t say they are wrong.

I stil can’t understand why coaches insist on playing Edwards on the right.

Not perfect but so, so much better. We just have a much better understanding of what we're trying to do with Altidore and Giovinco up top together, Bradley in the middle and at least one of Mavinga or Moor at CB.

Really hard for me to look at this performance and not think that 90% of our struggles this season are due to injuries.

Oldtimer

I'm not gonna listen! :D Just hoping for some better games, best players back and no major new injuries, fewer repetitive errors, less ball watching, consistent effort, and possibly an upgrade on defense and backup striker.

We have been splashing around in the water, ever since the CCL final, that last night's road victory serves as a flotation device.
A win against the Fire at home and then a strong showing in Atlanta and I am willing to say that we TFC fans are in a raft.
Not willing to dream of sighting land (playoff spot) until post game September 1....

So happy to see Seba pass Gordon all time goals while playing his team. Please carry on.

We face a lot of playoff-calibre teams in the next two months, so I too will be practicing self care. Still, good to see the win, and I think Edwards just won himself a starting spot - he was one of the most effective Fire players on the night.

Man of the match....Mavinga. He hasbeen the best defender in MLS since last August, and despite being rusty, he was picture perfect last night. He is the reason TFC had a clean sheet in the first half. He allows Bradley to move up a little, leading to that pass to Seba....it all starts at the back...and for most of this miserable season, the second stringers, just don’t have his skill or his smarts. The team makes the playoffs if Mavinga plays.

Lil'John
07-22-2018, 09:35 AM
I can't argue on Mavinga as man of the match, although sometimes I worry about his positioning - on the goal Nikolic missed and the one he scored, for example. But he was huge last night and his presence transforms the defence. He also plays the ball well out of defence.

What's a domestic attacking midfielder worth in MLS that is likely to finish with double digit goals?
