NOTE: MLS Live is dead. In Canada, there has been no announcement yet of a replacement (somebody really aughta ask Bill Manning about this). Its being replaced in the US by the ESPN app. That's not ready yet. So, the MLS website says it will stream all games not nationally covered. I have no idea if those games can be seen via that site up here.

************

Saturday

Atlanta @ Houston 3:30pm - Atlanta is the better team everywhere but in defence. Houston will consider a draw here a good result. 2-2 Why watch this game? - Atlanta away form & we also play Houston early (April)

NER @ Philly 7pm - both teams don't have their #10 ready yet - Nguyen is injured (and ticked) & the new guy in Philly (supposed to be about average for the league) just signed this week. NER is an unknown because we have no idea if Freidal can coach. The Union should win this. 3-1 Philly Why watch this game? To see if Friedal can manage.

DCU @ Orlando 7:30pm - more a test of Kreis' coaching then anything else. Orlando has way too much talent to lose this game but do they have the cohesion to put goals together. Its DCU, so probably this week. 3-2 for the home side Why watch this game? We play DCU in a month

RSL @ FCD 8pm - RSL quietly putting together a strong team. FCD is a bit of a mess. The away team might grab this one. 2-1 for RSL Why watch this game? We play RSL in 4 weeks & they will be tougher then they have been for a few years.

Minnesota @ SJE 10:30pm - Its the "We have not significantly improved anything on our team" derby. Ugly game. 1-1 Why watch this game? Because your 7 month old kid needs cuddling to stop them from crying so you might as well watch this at the same time.

Sunday

LAFC @ Seattle 5pm - LAFC has barely had time to get their guys together. There will be a lot of not knowing where players are going in this game. Seattle is no longer that fast a team but they do have enough technical ability, on turf, to take advantage of the newbies. The x factor - Bob Bradley is a darn good coach. 3-1 for Seattle. Why watch this game? Lets see how the LAFC new boys do. That & it would be nice to see Beitashour beat up on Seattle again.

Montreal @ Vancouver 6pm - The worst free kick defence meets the self proclaimed free kick specialists. But, will Montreal in any way resemble the team they were last season? 1-1 Why watch this game? We play Montreal in 2 weeks.

NYCFC @ SKC 7:30pm - GAME OF THE WEEK the battle of the teams in Man City blue. SKC's defence returns intact but they still have no decent forward. Villa has been good in preseason but they still have no decent DM presence. Villa wants this season to be something special and is going to will his team to points wherever possible. 2-1 for NYC Why watch this game? One of the best in the West vs. one of the best in the East.

Portland @ LAG 10:00pm - two teams being revamped. Portland is not going to stop attacking. LAG looks like a bunch of pluggers surrounding some DP's who can't work out how to play together. Sigi gets outcoached 3-1 for Portland Why watch this game? If their coach can get them going, Portland could be the most fun team to watch this season.

Plus La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Carabao Cup and NFL games. It also simulcast Bein Sports. For $20 a month, you’re getting a whole lot of football.

Be careful with DAZN......like I said above, their NFL streaming was terrible this year.....so much so that by Week 3 they had to partner with cable companies to bring the games back on TV with Sunday Ticket....just check out their Twitter from Sept '17 onward.

I didn't use it myself, but had friends who did and they were very disappointed....maybe the problems have been solved, but it was pretty bad through the whole season....

Might be a smart idea to just buy 1 month for $20 to try it.....

I dunno, I just didn't see this. I purchased DAZN before the NFL season started (and I was secretly hoping they would add MLS later, as I knew that MLS Live didn't have much of a future based on previous announcements). I watched almost every Patriots game throughout the season on DAZN; first on a laptop; later mostly on our LG smart TV. (I was too dumb to notice that there was a DAZN app for the TV for a while.)

I noticed some problems in the first game of the season, as many reported. But it still worked. I just couldn't hear the commentary for the first half; only on-field audio. It was actually awesome! Too bad they figured out the announcers for the 2nd half. Plus I got an additional free month as a result.

I didn't have any more problems after that. Perhaps some people have problems with their internet service. Or perhaps DAZN doesn't have great agreements covering all the peering points, so that it has more problems with certain ISPs? (Crazy guess: any chance vertically-integrated media companies, e.g. Bell / Rogers, would rather see DAZN fail, as live sports remain their best hope for selling expensive TV subscriptions?) I'm with start.ca; previously TekSavvy.

EDIT: Caveat -- I wasn't used to watching NFL on HD-quality TV before that. Mostly free streams and the like. So for somebody who was used to Sunday Ticket with a high-quality TV, there might have been more room for disappointment.

BTW DAZN is one month free for new subscribers; so don't pay anything to test it. Just make sure to cancel before the month is over if you don't want it anymore.

hmmm....you really seem to be the exception....every single person I know who used it had bad things to say....I wouldn't think that DAZN would bite the bullet and partner with Bell/Rogers during the year if the issues weren't so widespread....taking NFL away from cable was a huge coup for DAZN....

though your theory about Bell/Rogers is not far fetched at all.....

if the buffering and picture problems have been solved it could be a good service, but a big problem, specifically for NFL (and Fantasy League players) was the lag.....was resulting in Fantasy host sites updating scores before you would see it on the game....that drove people nuts....won't really be a problem with MLS though....

I've been using it for a couple of weeks now - no lag. Just a video freeze/skip that likely has more to do with my cheaper internet package on primus as I also get that on a few HD streams I've found. I'm also not used to HD at all - never had it on a TV & finally got a computer with a video card in January.

hopefully most of the issues have been solved then.....

And I guess that is where the difference is with me....I had been a Sunday Ticket subscriber for years, and when you're used to all games in HD, its hard to lose that.....

In other news

Both NER & DCU couldn't get out of town yesterday & are getting to their destinations today.

DC has to get to Orlando.

I fully expect both games to be blowouts now.

Almost like a team without defensive midfielders who brought in a shuttler who doesn't like to play defensively is going to have issues.

The Nagbe thing was just dumbfounding to me. I can't have imagined a worse player-system combo in the league than this. I have no idea what they were thinking. This off-season makes me think the Atlanta FO learned all the wrong lessons from their success last season.

MLS going to MLS

NER goes down a man on a rugby tackle DOGSO & then down a goal with a rookie scoring.

Orlando can't deal with DCU - give up a VAR penalty that is well saved by Bendik - followed by him waffling on a free kick giving up a goal.

He's been exclusively used as a right winger since going to Montreal. I think it's a huge mistake, he's not a distance shooter so his threat cutting in from the right is half of what it should be. He belongs on the left IMO.

Watching this LAFC-Seattle game, I'm getting serious flashbacks to our win there in Bradley and Defoe's first game.

He’s left thinking about whether to bring the ball inside on his strong foot where it’s easier for defenders to challenge or trying to stick it out on the right side (with the benefit of the sideline).

All and all they’re doing him a disservice. Why the coaches are taking a punt on this is beyond me. It’s been tried before and flopped.

We should insist that if they are going to steal our players they at least use them properly.

He actually did, in his defence. Both teams looked mediocre for the most part but Davies is going to be a star.

Not that Petrasso is tough to get the best of defensively but it looked like a training drill a lot of times with Vancouver constantly feeding Davies on the wing,

Separate note: Kaye appears to be winning early plaudits for LAFC... good on him.

Does anyone know why he fell through the cracks at the TFC academy? Playing for Canada last year, he seemed quite solid.
