Dichio setback, Tebily waived
By Ryan Johnston

The arrival of a new striker could not have come at a better time for Toronto FC, who received some bad news about leading-scoring Danny Dichio on Thursday.

"Danny (Dichio) has suffered a bit of a setback," Carver said during his Thursday Q&A. "I've just spoke with the doctors."

Dichio suffered the concussion during TFC's 1-nil home loss to Vancouver on July 1. The setback occurred when Dichio participated in some light training earlier this week.

Carver will use the newly acquired Barrett on Sunday versus FC Dallas, and hopes to have one player player in before kick-off.

"We've got other things going on as well and I am keeping my fingers crossed that we might have someone in by the time we play on Sunday."

Barrett in for TFC, Dichio still out

By DEAN MCNULTY (dean.mcnulty@sunmedia.ca), SUN MEDIA

It was another good news, bad news day for Toronto FC coach John Carver yesterday as he prepared to welcome forward Chad Barrett to his first practice today at BMO Field.
The good news is that Barrett finally is in the fold after being traded from Chicago -- but the bad news is that Danny Dichio has suffered a setback in his rehabilitation from a concussion suffered earlier this season.
"I was hoping that Danny might be ready this weekend," Carver said. "He started back with some light training this week but he's had a setback."
Carver has been so short of scoring forwards that he has started 16-year-old Abdus Ibriham the past two Major League Soccer matches, something he hopes he won't have to do at home Sunday against FC Dallas.
"I will start Barrett at forward," he said. "Ibbi has been put into a tough situation that I want to get him away from. He's got such a great potential. We can bring him in late if we have to provide a spark like he did against Chicago."
Dichio, meanwhile, had been the club's leading scorer prior to his injury in a 1-0 loss to Vancouver at BMO Field on Canada Day. Since then, TFC has gone seven games without a win.

Reds return home to face FC Dallas

Struggling on the road, Toronto FC tries to rally vs. Hoops

TORONTO FC vs. FC DALLAS
BMO FIELD, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Aug. 3, 2008 | 4 p.m. ET (CBC)

After another disheartening loss on the road, Toronto FC return to BMO Field -- where they are still unbeaten on the campaign -- for a Sunday afternoon contest against FC Dallas. TFC hasn't won away from Canada since April, Monday's late defeat at Real Salt Lake extended the club's league winless streak to five games. FC Dallas put an end to a four-game winless streak of their own last weekend, Schellas Hyndman getting his first league win in charge of the club in a resounding 4-0 victory against the LA Galaxy.

We have been stuck at 21, 22 points for what seems like forever.

There goes our head start! But if we can get our shit together...we can make the playoffs.

I think the only given at this stage is that NE and maybe Columbus will definitely make the playoffs and San Jose will definitely miss the playoffs.

After that, who the hell knows? Its gonna be a great second half.

Definitely the one good thing about this league, the parity.

Don't delude yourself, as with all North American sports leagues, it's fake parity since it's engineered with socialist policies such as rewarding the worst teams with the best draft picks, easiest schedule and having salary caps, revenue sharing etc..

The best at this is the NFL, which ironically is probably the only place in the world where socialism actually works.

don't delude yourself, there's no such thing as "fake parity"...
Parity is parity, however it is achieved.

By contrast, Europe doesn't have a free market competitive system. It's a slave to money. Not all teams can compete on an equal footing.
Promotion and relegation is a test of how much money you spend, not how good your team is in some sort of perfect market competition.

It may suck...but it was the only way the league could survive.

Everyone has 22 points.

Remember Carver's comments after that dismal 0-0 home draw to KC when we played with a number of reserve players. He thought the point earned would be a big factor at season's end.

Maybe the two points dropped by not winning will be an even bigger factor.

Knight: TFC gets younger, better
Ben Knight, today at 9:09 AM EDT

I love the trade.

Toronto FC finally dealt the rights to ex-Fulham All-American striker Brian McBride to the Chicago Fire, nabbing a first-round draft pick, various MLS “allocation” goodies – and 23-year-old target man Chad Barrett.
