I can't see Jozy or Seba making the trip if they are nursing possible tightness.

I can see us not dropping points the rest of the season. LA are on a bit of an upswing but are still a bit of a mess. possibly Even without Seba and Jozy I'm confident of a win.

Oldtimer

Jozy is apparently ok. Seba, we'll see. It's a long trip to LA, but TFC should be able to win. I'm thinking Vanney may engage in some squad rotation to get some guys some minutes. We'll see.

That 1-1 draw with Seattle wasn't that impressive. First half that goal was 1 of 4 shots.

molenshtain
09-11-2017, 07:54 AM
We're 18-5-3 since the 2-1 loss to Columbus in April - in my opinion the last game before we clicked - and unbeaten in 10 currently. If they're healthy there is no way Vanney rotates going into the stretch run. I think the players are too motivated to break records at this point.

Not that it matters whether we rotate or not. We won one of our last six going into the playoffs last year and that turned out fine.

Any word on Marky Delgado?

OgtheDim
09-11-2017, 09:46 AM
I think we rotate in Osorio for Delgado, Hernandez for somebody in the back, Ricketts for Seba & maybe Chapman for Vasquez. And this will be the last game we play without the starting 11.

Teams are starting to lock in their starters - heck, crazy Martino wants to play the same Atlanta squad for 8 games in 23 days.

BendItLikeGio

Yeah i rather see a light rotation for this Game, as we gotta turn around and come back place on a wednesday and the following saturday on the east coast again. Usually that west coast travel and timezone change does seem to take a toll on players.

Oldtimer

If it was up to me, I'd give Clint Irwin this game to keep him ready.

I'm wondering if Vanney will roll out the 4-4-2 diamond?

I'm wondering if Vanney will roll out the 4-4-2 diamond?
Why?

LA can't defend against 3-5-2. IIRC they lost Jones and Alessandrini to yellow card accumulation. Their defence is shambles and they may have lost their starting GK to injury. Not that their GK pool is good in the first place.
I'm predicting a 3-1 TFC win. LA is terrible at home.

I was thinking just for practice, but you're right, the 3-5-2 makes sense.

I didn't realize they had two players out on yellow cards. TFC could win this with the B squad then, although I don't expect Vanney to take that much of a risk.

Why you giving LA one goal in your prediction? Just because they are at home? I am not that generous. I don't think TFC will get scored on and should be able to get a couple. 2-0 to me feels about right. Maybe 1-0 if LA parks the bus. I am just predicting based on current TFC form and what I read about LA. I haven't watched a minute of an LA games this year to really know anything about their current form.

Leave seba at home. There was a game in May away at Seattle when Toronto sent a depleated club in and came away with 3 points. I'd like to see a similar style. Let Cooper, Edwards, Oso, and crew get minutes. Depth of this team is unprecedented, lets show it off

LA is shite at defending, but they still have some weapons on attack. (dos Santos brothers, Zardes when he's playing striker, Boateng on flanks) They did well enough to nick a draw away at Seattle. I saw the Seattle-LA game and Schmid and Kinnear has LA playing far better organized than before.

So it should be easy 3 pts for TFC, but I try not to underestimate a team full of players that's playing like they want to earn a contract for next season.

Rotating makes sense in keeping players ready for the stretch drive and the playoffs. Who scored the tying and winning goals v Montreal last season: Hagglund, Cheyrou, Ricketts. It was a lesson about keeping everyone ready. Plus Osorio has now earned minutes, Ricketts needs some as he is a little off, and Edwards needs some too, he could have a real impact in the stretch. I am certain Vanney is thinking about those things too, as well as winning, Irwin staying ready, and being careful with Seba. If Cheyrou was healthy I think Bradley might even sit but very unlikely if Seba can't make the trip

ensco
09-11-2017, 08:32 PM
I want to sit Seba. I just want him going in November. Sit him for four weeks.

This is an exhibition game. Only the Montreal games matter the rest of the way.

I want to get Cooper some minutes. He contributed in the clutch last year. We might need him again. Same with Ricketts.

I think we drop points here. I could care less.

Call me crazy, but against almost all the opinions here I think we'll have a very hard time to get all 3 points in LA.
For a number of reasons the LA players will treat this game like their most important match of the season.
We should be pleased with a draw.

I've got the same feeling. I think this will be in all likelihood the last game I can see us dropping points in. If we do I am ok with it providing that we roll out squad rotation. Edwards, Oso, Hernandez, Ricketts, Irwin, hell call Hamilton in. The Wednesday game is far more important in my opinion. We need to rest the big guns where we can.

I really want to see Edwards get some minutes. If L.A.'s defense has been falling apart recently, they probably won't be able to defend against him very well.

And perhaps only sub them in later in the game if they're in need of goals.

So obviously Ricketts comes in for Jozy, but who replaces Seba? Chapman? Edwards? They've tried playing Raheem as a striker before with mixed results.

Do they go 3-6-1 or 4-5-1?

They went with Vazquez up top for the second half last Saturday so....Chapman?

^Why play them against Montreal?
I think playing them at home with over a weeks rest is better than having them travel to L.A. on short rest to play. That's my opinion anyway. That's also assuming this is precautionary and that this isn't a full blown injury.

Although LAG is in a major funk and will have two suspensions, TFC is missing it's two top strikers means that this will be a competitive game.

This will be a major test of depth, and I don't expect a 4-0 result for TFC. If TFC can win this match, it will confirm that this is the most complete MLS squad ever.

Initial B
09-15-2017, 11:50 AM
The backline looks to be solid, so they'll only let in a goal at most. Our offense will probably still have Vasquez pulling the strings so they might be able to score at least a goal. I think they can at least get a tie.

Section_105
09-15-2017, 11:56 AM
if Vazquez can start to get balls in to Tos when he makes those runs this could be another game where we blow out the opposition. I think this will be a tough game but I'm hoping Vanney surprises us with something different and we continue the roll.

Seba and Jozy staying out makes total sense. If they have any muscle issues then being on a plane for so many hours and then with short rest to wednesday would be a recipe for disaster.

Getting excited already for this one!

Hmmm...a tricky one to predict:

---------------------------Irwin--------------------------
------------Zavaleta---Hernandez---Mavinga----------
--Beitashour--Delgado--Bradley--Vasquez--Morrow--
-----------Ricketts--------Hamilton---------------------

Would be nice to see Osorio/Hasler/Edwards/Chapman too...

TFC1154ever

I think Osario has earned a start with his last 2 performances (1 for club and country). With Vanney making changes for this game, I think he starts over Delgado, and Edwards possibly starts over morrow. Beita will start because he played his best match of the year yesterday, and he's fighting off Hasler for starting time. Everything else above I think will happen. If Edwards doesn't touch the field in this game, somethings up.

nonc

Must get Hasler back in for 90 somehow.

I recall only two good memories at LA, Alan Gordon brace and Champions League (Nick Soolsma winner). But that's pretty good.

^^ if Delgado is in I can see him getting on the end of something. He is pretty good at being in the right place at the right time. Also, if Osorio keeps firing shots like he did for his latest goal he could start his own little streak of scoring. We still have options for sure.

That's what I have been wanting to see from Osorio what seems like forever, the reason why he was shooting the way he was, is because Seba was not on the field, Osorio always defers to Seba. I hope he bags another, 2-1 TFC

General Woolfe
09-16-2017, 10:29 PM
Good first half from the Reds even if it should be 3-0 rather than 2-0. We started a bit sluggish with some passes going astray but have gradually started to dominate with thhe Captain, Delgado and Vazquez in particular dominating the midfield. Osorio not grabbing his chance so far and missing a sitter like that wont do much for his confidence. Grea goal from Ricketts made up for it and if we can get better delivery from the Morrow & Hasler on the flanks we can go on and build on our lead here, although I recognize it takes time to build a relationship

Keep it up Toronto. Show no mercy!

p.s. I almost forgot. One of the most impressive things about this TFC side is the way they hunt in packs to regain possession with one player making the challenge while two other surround the opponent to cut off any pass they might make or pick up the ball that's been knocked loose. Its a really impressive factor of our play

So this is the game of which so many of us were scared?
It looks like it's one of the easiest games of the seasons for the Reds... should be a very comfortable 3-0 at halftime, but this is not to say this is not an extremely comfortable 2-0. It would take a horrible second half from the boys in red not to bag all 3 point here!

We have so much quality and the Galaxy is so horrible!

Now it's easy to understand why they have such a crap season...
Plus they are so scared of TFC that they are shitting their pants every time when we have the ball in their third!

Great goal the second one: super move from Hasler and masterful finish for the speedy man up front. :)

We played very good, but I'm baffled how bad is this Galaxy team.
How are they not dead least in the whole MLS standings?

Seriously, even when we were the worst team in the world we weren't this bad!

Just excellent performances all around. Osorio's extra bulk this year has translated into some real speed, that was a surprise.

4-0, and the Reds were not even sharp with their chances... could have been even 7 or 8-0. :)

Let's just win every game 4-0 from now to December.

Seconded.

Let's not get carried away people we are very good now very good, but we were bad very bad for a long time just as bad or worse.

5 points to clinch if my math is right (usually isn't)

What a show. What a team.

True, because on a second thought I realized that when we were "the worst team in the world" we never got our asses kicked by such a good team like TFC of 2017!

True it's technically 5 points, but let's be honest. NYCFC can't get more than 66 points which is 4 more than what TFC has now. In theory with a tie, NYCFC can win the supporter's shield if they have a superior goal differential. As of now, TFC has a +24 advantage on NYCFC, so it's unlikely they'd win the shield if we were level on points.

4-0 result without Seba or Jozy. Vanney deserves some credit here. He is the architect of this result.

No Seba, no Jozy. no problem. g:D

Awesome win by the Big Red Machine. And kudos to those who flew out to attend the match (Justin g:D).

We are playing on another level to everybody else.

LAG is bad right now, made out of USL hopefuls and a bunch of guys who are shell shocked at how bad its going, coached by somebody who can't deal with a team in crisis & who is isn't going to be there next year.

But watching all the supposedly decent teams today, we are just so much better then all of them.

Haha first post I saw when i opened this thread this morning

Two DPs missing, and we still totally dominated. Vanney deserves a lot of credit indeed. We have reserves step in and our ball movement is still fluid.

Since that frustrating DC draw, TFC have outscored opponents by a score of 21-3 while going 6-0-0 ...I think that's called "being in form"

Roll on Reds !!

Wow.

Postulate: As long as Vasquez is on the field, TFC will score 2+ goals. I want to see this hypothesis tested next time Vanney rests VV.

He's on the same kind of level as Seba talent-wise, I think. Another level from MLS, that's for sure. I mean, really, this guy should be playing in a top Euro league.

I don't think it was much of anything. I read his lips while he was down and right before the chance camera angles he said "arrrrgghhh my nuts!!" I'm thinking he got clipped in the nether regions and it's nothing serious

Of course he is!
When he was 14-15 he was considered even better than Messi by the Barca staff.
In my humble opinion those folks at Barca may know a little bit about the sport in which a bunch of so called footballers are running around kicking a ball.

The Galaxy keeper and a defender doing some nice synchronized dance moves right after TFC's fourth goal:

I just don't see how he was not effective in Mexico. Is this just an amazing year? Smarts like that dont come and go

I've wondered about that as well.
He's just so good.
Perhaps the chemistry with those other teammates just wasn't there.
Maybe he wasn't happy living in Mexico.
Who knows...

Maybe he wasn't happy living in Mexico.

He's alluded to safety concerns for his family while there a couple of times. But that's over the course of this season - I can't remember where I read that to share a link, but I know I've seen it come up more than once.

I'm just re-watching the LA highlights. The play at 43:00 of game time (about halfway through the six-minute highlights on TFC's website) is one of the best attacking sequences I've seen from TFC, possibly from the whole league. A whole slew of TFC players charging forward, with various movements that seem nicely choreographed, totally overwhelming the LA defense and creating huge gaps in defense. They end up with 6 TFC players in LA's box. Too bad Osorio ended up shooting at the keeper.
