Olivier Tebily has left TFC and gone back to France. He had complained that Toronto is too expensive and apparently his wife was really unhappy here. Can our luck get any worse? I can't reveal my source but I assure you this is reliable news

Tebily = $156,960.00 in cap space, pro rate it

MLS is a complicated monster - salary caps, allocations, senior roster/development roster, domestic/international players, out of sync with FIFA dates, and TFC also has the turf/grass arguement

July's not been a kind month to TFC in back-to-back seasons

He probably expected to be able to stroll into the first team and be a star without having to do anhy work, and backed out when he saw he would have to fight for his place.

Five years ago, he'd have walked into any side in MLS, but not now. The league is stronger.

This just tells you about the mentality most players from Europe come here with. They just expect to come here, play some non-pressure soccer, experience the North American lifestyle and make some dough while they're at it. I'm pretty sure that he was surprised that he actually had to prove his worth in practice sessions and such just to get some playing time. This is quite a blow since I believe he was one of our better defenders but whatever. I'm just happy that we didn't get Huckerby. I'm quite certain he came over here with the same mentality.

This is pretty crappy especially in light of the injury to Dunny and the few games that Wynne is going to miss at the Olympics. However not a huge loss overall, who knows how that ankle would have stood up after getting back. After all he has only started 2 games for us in the league.

Mo will need to work some quick magic though... there are a few teams looking for defenders so he needs to act fast.

Guys this is our answer!!!!!

Mario Alberto Yepes Díaz (born January 13, 1976 in Cali) is a Colombian football player, currently playing as a central defender. He is currently unattached.

In 1999, he joined River Plate in Argentina, where he became a star and won two Argentine Primera championships. In spite of the fact that several Italian and English clubs wanted to recruit him, he signed for FC Nantes Atlantique in January 2002 where his nickname was “El Rey”. He became one the best central defenders of the French first division and joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2004, where his nickname is "Super Mario" as a reference to his great defensive abilities.

That hurts.... Tebily is a great player, and CD is not a position you want to find yourself sort on talent. Marshall and Velez are still a dynamic duo of death -- their play styles are so different and so complentary that it is hard to split them up. Either way is sucks for us. Now we only have one good back up for two important spots and one start who is 33.

He makes what, 160k? 200k? A "good" real estate agent can make a shit load more than that in a hot market, which up until 2 months ago, was Toronto. Economic downturn, housing prices coming do 10-15% in the last 2 months....

No hot market, time to go.

I dont see this as that big of a deal.

Tebily was certainly solid in the little bit of time he played for TFC but I really think that its time for Nana to start getting some 1st team action. He is a very solid, fundamentally sound and composed young player. I think he does some things (i.e. pass the ball) better than Julius James and he'll only get better the more opportunity he gets to play.

A really good real estate agent is patient. A really good real estate doesn't just sell homes but invests in stocks. A really REALLY good real estate agent has invested in atleast 5 different condos.

I've got to say, FOOD in France is cheaper than Canada... I was in Nice last year and could eat myself full with 5Euros spent at the Casino (grocery score). For 5E or about $7.50 CDN I bought: bottle of wine (750ml), camembert cheese, cold cuts, and a baguette. Here, this would have cost about $18 with some cheap as wine made from powder in someone's basement, cheese that has never seen milk before, cold cuts that have more preservatives than meat, and a "baguette" the French would rather feed pigeons with. Cars cost the same. Gas is more, but their regular is 91 octane (here it would be super), so really the gas prices are barely higher. Houses go for about the same.

If all you ate was cheese, wine, and bread (croissant), your bowels would explode in a week.......price of gas in France this week was roughly 40% higher than it was here; the octane difference is irrelevant, you don't get better mileage with the 91.....French federal income tax and various retail taxes are the highest in the world (tied with two other countries), as released earlier this year by several reputable authorities (not brigette bardot).......but it is a great place to visit.....Tebily is home sick, and wants out...so what, let him go, he won't be missed, because he hardly played for TFC.....perhaps he doesn't like the turf....or his wife misses her girlfriend...we will never find out.

Commenter on a previous post asked me to give him some good news on Olivier Tebily (http://toronto.fc.mlsnet.com/players/bio.jsp?team=t280&player=tebily_o&playerId=teb296636&statType=current).

Um, I can deliver a little news, but I'm not sure if you'll consider it good.

The team hasn't announced their plans regarding the 32-year-old defender so I can't really give you the official word here, but I can tell you that he wasn't at last Friday's practice, nor was he hanging around BMO Field when I showed up just after Saturday's practice. Those are matters of observation, not official information.

Beyond that, I can't say, but I can tell that if you look around the Internet you'll find highly unofficial but pretty accurate info on what happened to him.

Seriously, it's not that big a secret.

You just didn't hear it from me.

Maybe I'm way off base here, but I can't help but think what would have happened had Tebily been given a starting role since day 1.

I understand that Velez has improved since his shaky start and that Carver likes to reward good outcomes, but I always thought that Tebily was the most talented pure defender I'd seen on TFC. I know that swallowing your pride for the good of the team and not being selfish are important traits, but there are some situations where the team needs to ensure that foreign players coming over are treated according to their talents.

That's just the way I see it - maybe his reasons having nothing to do with it, but I could never understand why he wasn't an automatic start every time out.

Hey guys,
I was just wondering now that Tebily is gone, does that free up an international roster spot that Dickov could take?

Yes his release opens up an international spot on the roster, should be interesting to see how the Reds lineup shapes up for the rest of the season.

anyone who walks from their team mid-season is a wanker. there should be more to it than money. he obviously has the same fucking genes as his cousin Drogba, and I'm a Chelsea fan. Wankers.

Better off without out him if he doesn't wanna be here. He's injured half the time and isn't all that impressive when he is in the lineup. Soldier on without him.

He said he couldn't afford Toronto. What a waste staying for less than a season when he clearly wanted to improve his stock. Bye. Thanks for stopping by...
