I don't like to give points away but we have the luxury of being able to afford it.

I am really worried about tired, older guys getting hurt, especially on the plastic. We have just earned/added two guaranteed-to-be-physically-brutal Montreal games to the schedule in June.

Play the Ottawa leg one lineup ex Traintor, but pull Morrow. I would sit Morrow, Beitashour, Vazquez. Even if it means Endoh at fullback. (I have never been happier about the international call, would far rather that Bradley and Altidore play on grass elsewhere that day, as they will. Wish Morrow had also gotten called, as he should have been.)

Thanks for the music Og! I'll be listening to two of my favourite albums now that you reminded me...

I agree, I'm expecting absolutely nothing from the NE game. The Revs are a hit-&-miss team, but have a very good home record (undefeated 4-0-2). With low expectations, perhaps some of the young TFC players can surprise us.

At least a draw just to keep the undefeated streak alive though.

Screw the hoping for a draw and not expecting nothing from this game talk. We can beat the Revs. I expect us to be competitive and have a decent chance at winning. I refuse to lower my expectations of this current team.

Our B team can beat most MLS squads. The Revs are nothing special.

Way Seba was talking last night, he's playing for sure. I believe we are giving them a full strength squad, running the 3-5-2 right at their less then stellar FB's.

Its an away game on turf, so anything could happen. But we go in as favourites.

Is the New England turf really that bad or is this a narrative we are all buying into? I mean, all turf is bad, but theirs can't be worse than anyone else's can it?

If I recall we lost Koevermens (career ending I think) and Altidore to long term injuries on this turf in the past so maybe just a bad taste in the mouth because of that. It hasn't been kind over the years but it is what it is and shouldn't be an excuse for anything. Turf fields are complained about by every MLS team that normally play on grass.

They should complain. Turf fields are harder on joints and tendons. I just can't imagine New England's is worse than anyone else's. They do have a professional football team playing on it too, and I can't see them being happy with crap turf.

I tend to agree, I think it is the supporters that are more paranoid, we see many MLS teams playing on turf and their players aren't getting injured, I agree that the ball is more difficult to control and it rolls and bounces funny. Field a strong lineup and blow the doors off of New England.

They just replaced the turf at Gillette Stadium this month. It's not the same stuff that tore up DK's knee back then. I'm okay with our players playing on it because it's probably in its best condition it's ever going to be.

We have two weeks off after this game. Nobody is going to get rested except the injured.

And NER's defence is particularly cruddy.

Goals will come from Seba, Hamilton, Vasquez, Morrow, Delgado et. al.

They'll likely do something in between. :)

I'm guessing:

Bono
Zavaleta--Moor--Mavinga
Beitashour--Cheyrou--Vasquez--Edwards--Morrow
Giovinco--Hamilton

With Chapman, Osorio and Endoh getting time, although that leaves out Cooper

PawTar711
06-01-2017, 10:33 PM
I hope that Giovinco is back, it would be a good thing that he is. I think that with him back, and him doing well previously against Ottawa Fury in the Canadian Championships means that our coach Greg Vanney is doing a good job at putting people into place at the right times, like Osario and such. I think Ricketts has played well recently, and were passing the ball tremendously, I also think that as a team we are holding onto first proudly and I think that everything is working out swell. I think we have to try a bit harder to solidfy the fact that we can hold onto this first place for the entire season, regardless of where we are, regardless of where we are in the standings, which is first, but what I mean is that we have to maintain first, and continue to believe that were not going to fall off the wagon. We're playing an 8th place side, that has no right to say that they are as good as us at this point in the season, as cliche as anyone wants me to sound, and I expect for us to continue our home play, and make sure that we aren't going to stop cheering for the red's regardless where we are in the season, and when I have some more to contribute in terms of the roster and such, I'll do so. Sincerely,

Hamilton_Red

If you watch Vanney's interview on team website yesterday, he seems very adamant about "finishing this group of games on a winning note" and "finding the right combination".

I think he is going all in for a victory. Also saying "Seba's injury is not turf related", which I assume means Giovinco is playing if not starting.

New England is on a 10-game unbeaten run at home. The Revolution have outscored opponents 26-7 over this streak.

This won't be a cake walk that some people are making it out to be. The Revs are shaky defensively for sure, but can score.

The Haagen-Daz Dulce split--Dulce la Leche ice cream layered with bananas and hot caramel sauce, topped with whipped cream!

It is the Ballon D'or of ice cream...

BTW, I think we should play the best team we have available--turf or no turf. So start Giovinco. If we are winning at the half, maybe you bring him out early, but let's keep the undefeated streak going, and get every point we can!

Now feel free to go back to the amusing ice cream tangent if you want :-)

Best team available. Chicago is 5 points behind, but they have 1 game in hand, so could be just 2 points. Can't afford any missteps now.

PC, Haagen-Dazs or nothing at all. Chapmans is poor quality, you get what you pay for.

I heard somewhere that Chapmans makes PC, I may be wrong

Is Edwards playing up top with Gio? Because Morrow and Beit are starting.

Seems like it might be a 3-5-1-1 sort of thing, with Seba sort of on his own, then the midfield swarming up to support when appropriate (?)

Kurt Larson think it's more of a 4-3-3

Irwin's getting minutes in the Canadian Championship. Bono's earned the starting position.

Here's a YouTube search results page for all the channels supposedly streaming the match. I assume one of them will work eventually:

Dry turf with guys not being able to judge the speed and some slipping and sliding going on out there. And a big hole in front of our back line.

Its like we are playing in sand.

Our passing is really off, but you have to give NE credit for swarming our guys and giving them no time on the ball. One assumes this will cause them to tire as the game goes on and will eventually play in our favour.

Sloppy game all around which was frankly expected based on the missing parts of our lineup, a crappy field, and a team due for a stinker. The fact that they can still pull any kind of result while playing so poorly actually gives me some legitimate excitement as to how good this team really is.

They are going to lose games this year, based on non peak lineups, jammed schedules and simply having off nights. If that happens only 10x out of the year and they can steal some points in those "off" games (Clbs road game for example), that's going to lead to a heck of a regular season. If this group is healthy in November, and we KNOW they will be extremely motivated after last year (and BMO will be rocking), they will be a site to behold....

We're soft in the middle today. No real destroyer. No Delgado, no bradley. Cooper's okay defensively, Cheyrou's a little slow, Vasquez is non-existent going backwards.

So we're getting overrun by the trailer in the box each time.

I don't think this is as negative as people are making it out to be --- if I said we would only play "10" crappy games (and this is a road game on a notoriously bad field that their opponent plays well on) and 24 average-decent games - I'd take my chances at finishing with a pretty decent point total - we we were due to have a stinker today for many reasons (what have we had? 3 or 4 bad games out of 15 of which we've lost only two?) - if this was our full starting 11 with a regular week off between games, I'd be more concerned, this was just a confluence of many events leading to one of hopefully few annoying "schedule/lineup" losses on the year.....if they crap the bed with a full squad against DC at home in 2 weeks, that's a concern, tonight is a shrug to me (albeit annoying to watch) ......outside of going to Dallas and Orlando (two tough road games in a short week) in July with a limited squad potentially due to Gold Cup, and a NYCFC doubleheader that should be fun to watch again, the schedule seems very kind to us from August onwards....we will be favoured in most of the rest of the games after July....it's not time to over-react to a loss tonight.....

Poor performance from the Reds on the night. That was as comprehensive a defeat tonight as youre likely to see. Too much has been made of our depth. Whist we have decent cover, perhaps the best weve ever had, it doesnt mean that every side we put out is equal to our first choice eleven. We badly missed our captain tonight, particularly his organization, the defence looked vulnerable every time the Revs went forward without Bradley's protection.

Still it is what is is, and at least we stuck to plan and tried to play a passing game throughout. At no point did we resort to kick and rush in desperation. We need to take this on the chin and move forward, but make no mistake on tonight's evidence July will be tough month for us with the absence of Bradley & Altidore at the Gold Cup.

Eh, no. Are we the best team in the league right now? Quite possibly. But let's not get too puffed up about our station in this league just yet - no MLS Cups, and no Supporters Shields.

As a supporter, I never want my team to drop points, but to say it's never "acceptable" because we are the Man Utd of MLS, strikes me as a bit exaggerated. Second loss of the season, with a depleted squad, and ending off the second of two two-week spans playing two games a week.

Not pleased we lost, and certainly not that comprehensively. But hopefully they now have a chance to catch their breath, get some proper rest from the morons who make the schedule, and come back with a vengeance on the 17th.

I thought today's match was splendid, in fact, I don't think it was that bad, in all honesty, we were away to a relatively good side in an away match where we were tired, and I thought that in the very beginning we weren't awake causing the team to struggle out the gate, almost costing us a goal or two. I think that we as a team were able to manage the fact that possession didn't come too quick, however, I thought that they were playing in a way where they kept possession, in area's on the sides, and when we had the ball, they wanted us to come through the middle, and we didn't, I think that instead of going through the middle, we were hesitant in the beginning, and then they tried to counter us, however, we were able to get numerous chances going numerous times. In all honesty, there were a lot of exciting moments where we could have easily tied, making it exciting, also, Jozy Altidore and Michael Bradley were away performing international duty for Team USA, the very team we were trying to beat, the New England Revolution. I thought that in all honesty, we lost a bit of it in the second half, a little stupid, but I think that generally, the game was good, and it's nothing to be upset about, espiecally if your the goaltender, because majority of the goals weren't his fault.

Sincerely,

In essence, team not patient enough, got stretched out and really really tired legs. Edwards was a trial to see if he could spread out their defence, which worked for the Vasquez miss.

One point to remember:

We play these guys at BMO within 48 hours of the first leg in Montreal.

Edwards up top didn't really work and I think likely helped the tired legs get more tired, by lack of hold up play.

i was thinking that you cannot have VV and BC in the same midfield and this game seemed to show that, but maybe the lack of hold up play made that worse. Gio had the least impact on a game in a while.

Wild speculation: SUM continues to be a major money maker for the league hence these sorts of things are prioritized. As a Canadian the USMNT doesn't do much for me, notwithstanding having a couple of outrageously good players or our roster which we pay for anyway.

I worry that MLS is ultimately diluting its product, puffing out on expansion fees, and has lost sight of what took the league out of the doldrums prior to TFC's launch (namely: focusing on the game, the quality of the facilities, etc...).

The USMNT is very very good for MLS. If the USMNT didn't qualify for Russia, Fox would not pay as much for MLS the next time around. They would be unlikely to put an MLS game on Big Fox (which they have done a couple of times this season getting a few million more eyeballs then a FoxS1 broadcast).

And what is good for MLS is good for TFC.

I hope the Yankees get to Russia and get burned big time by little countries. And I hope they flame out at the Gold Cup. But, them making it to the World Cup significantly helps MLS by driving people to watch summer time soccer.

This is the US equivalent of staging an all night street party outside the opposition's hotel the night before a match.

Or not having your MNT's released by a English or Scottish team because their gaffer thinks national teams outside of Europe are a joke.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this was a non-FIFA due too no? As if MLS scheduling challenges aren't enough to begin with...
a little late with my reply but yes, you are correct - Non-fifa release dates. We did not have to release them for this game but did so apparently with the understanding we would be able to hold them back from a real FIFA date if there was an inconsequential game for the US. but that's just a tidbit from an Interview with Vanney that I can't find again.
