Currently watching the CSKA Moscow v. Zenit game. Theyre playing at Luzhniki Stadium, which is a fieldturf stadium. Is it just me cause their turf seems to much better than BMO. The ball bounces incredibly similar to grass, i had to go make sure it was fieldturf by going to wiki.

Not sure what it is but i think it's the fibers, they are not cut as short. Not sure, but the ball bounces around as per natural grass. BMO in comparison is crap.

I actually sat through a field turf presentation at BMO the day of the MLS all-star game...

The turfs in the two stadiums are identical and both have the FIFA 2-Star rating...

The fibers are never 'cut' but they are 'combed' to help the synthetic rubber evenly distribute through the turf...

I just pictured a sleepy BMO caretaker getting up early in the morning and running a bigass haircomb through the field.

Just discovered that there is a slight difference in models between the two...

Luzhniki Stadium uses FTOM 1S-G
BMO uses FTOM 1S

The certificates for both are below...

http://www.fieldturf.com/images/fifa/FIFA%20CERTIFICATE%20-%20Luzhniki%20BSA.pdf

http://www.fieldturf.com/images/fifa/FIFA%20Certificate%20-%20BMO-%202%20Star.pdf

Also, looks like BMO at present lost certification (due to expiry)

They updated all this information at the presentation - including the models and certification / re-certification of the turf's installed around the world...

I have the entire presentation on a memory stick - I'm hoping if I find some time to share the stats with all of you, it was very interesting...

It has all the stats about game play, injuries (all kinds from all types of fouls, non-fouls, away from play, chronic, etc)...

Maybe something that doesn't doesn't equate as much as the turf...but what about the ball itself? Just throwing it out there, but maybe they are using a specific ball.

Excellent point, and how much rain the turf / watering it had prior to the match...

They say the watering is for heat - but from playing on it before and after watering, it makes a difference...

Yeah. I was thinking the same thing. Also, I think the MLS ball is crap, as an aside. I think it's way too light.

Agreed. I play with it in my league and I have used that as an excuse when I miss the net!!!! But seriously, I think it is light.

I've played on some fieldturf at the soccer centre in Brampton and that was slick as Hell. Does watering the surface make it play more like real grass?

Edit...I looked on the City's site to see about information about what kind of turf was installed...no luck. Maybe I'll ask someone when I am in the area next.

There are all kinds of different models of fieldturf... all play differently (slightly).

When games are played on fieldturf, the ball used should be changed to one that's more 'turf appropriate'.. whatever that means, but perhaps one that is more "weighty."

One thing everyone is forgetting is that on our field we have the whole city trampling it before and after game. Wearing and tearing the shit out of it certainly can't be good for it.

Luzhniki Stadium is a 5-star UEFA rated facility. It was the location of this year's UEFA Champions League final.

Of course, for that match, they took out the turf, and actually installed a real grass pitch.

That is pretty crazy, but I think we need REAL grass instead.
