Games on CTV

i heard this and saw it again today on caps forum, that TSN will be calling road games from a TSN studio to save on costs. Much like CMNT qualifiers were done back in the day. Home games will be done as per usual.
We will see if that is the case.

Should be interesting to see the ratings for the CTV games.

The Seattle game is on big Fox - they'll likely take the feed.

Wow this is really great. All games on TSN and 3 on CTV is fantastic! Should go a long way to help build that TV audience, I guess TSN was really encouraged by the playoff ratings. Even if some of those TSN games end up on TSN2, it's much better than switching between TSN/TSN2 and SNO/SN1/SN360.

That Vancouver game in March is on CTV at least in part because TSN will be going wall to wall on March Madness. TSN does decent numbers with that, once they get into the Final Four anyway.

my guess they will move to it over to ch20 or ch8

Part of me is wondering if there is going to be serious pressure applied to Vancouver to sign a big name DP striker and actually achieve some success.

It is easier to get on TSN and CTV, when most of our games are on Friday Night, which is usually a quite night on tv. And saturday some or majority are earlier then the late games, making it easy to do tfc and nhl games same day. Can MARCH 31 already be here

It is actually 7 Saturday afternoon MLS games that are going to be on CTV - so four others on top of the three TFC games featured on CTV.

If they can continue the success they had last year I am very curious to see what the TV numbers will be like in 2017 and also The MSM media coverage here in Toronto

I guess this was deal breaker for MLS to stick with Bell instead going with Sportsnet or CBC who were interested in MLS TV rights.

is TSN going to show some American games like they did last year? I really enjoyed some of the games on Sunday nights. FYI, FOX will be airing about 4 games (non Canadian teams).

I only see 5 games of TFC being shown on TSN2, but I have a feeling those TSN channel will change to TSN 1/4 or 1/4/5. Excited about CTV games though.

Has anybody seen any numbers?

Still yet to see any individual game ratings for Canadian TV, but this story (https://www.fourfourtwo.com/us/features/tv-digital-viewing-habits-evolve-mls-looks-stay-ahead-curve) from Paul Tenorio includes a claim from the league that viewership through the first five weeks is up 21% on TSN and 43% on TVA compared to last year.

We used to get rating numbers from Chris Zelkovich who would put out the weekend sports viewership numbers every week but I don't think he works for Yahoo Sports anymore. Unless someone knows where he used to get his numbers I have no idea where to go for rating information.

he has a pod cast now, said at end of last one that he hasn't seen any mls in his numbers he gets ... which means they are still less that 100k cutoff he gets

TFC averaging 93,000 viewers this season, compared to 59,000 at the same point last year. 18-34 demo for TFC is up 39%.

Whitecaps averaging 86,000 compared to 69,000 last year, Impact at 80,000 vs. 73,000.

If TFC has been averaging 93k and the Impact 80k, you can pretty much guarantee the Canadian viewership for TFC-MTL was well above ESPN's 181k.

Where are the numbers this year? This team has been playing so entertaining that the TV numbers must be improving game over game. Would be nice to see.

TSN got 98k as per an industry person. Don't know how much TVA got. Whitecaps/Orlando got 35k.

Any word on the playoff ratings so far? I imagine they would be quite a bit lower than last year since they didn't have the hype of playing against Montreal but I'm still curious about them.

It's about what TSN gets for a decent second or third round NHL playoff game with no Canadian team (eg Penguins vs Caps). Not bad.

641,000 is pretty close to the TSN rating we had for the 2016 East final against Montreal when removing the RDS/Quebec numbers.

Lot's of hype for the finals. Top 2 teams and a re-match. Both teams healthy. TSN and even radio stations like 103.5 talking about it. Hoping for 1,000,000 viewers for the final.

http://www.bellmedia.ca/pr/press/1-3-million-canadians-watch-historic-toronto-fc-mls-cup-win-on-tsn/

1.3 million average and 2 million peak. Slightly down from last year's final which was 1.5 million average and 2.7 million peak. However the big difference was the afternoon start time this year vs. the evening start last year, you're always better off in the evening for drawing the largest audience possible.

More noteworthy is Bell also mentions overall viewership for MLS in Canada this season rose 25% vs. last year, and 40% in the 18-34 demo.

Unfortunately not the greatest news south of the border. I was expecting a drop because of the afternoon start and being on ESPN instead of the main FOX network as was the case with last year's game - but not down this much. A 43% drop to 1,140,000 viewers on ESPN, Unimas and Univision Desportes combined compared to 2,012,000 down there last year when the English telecast was on FOX instead of ESPN.

It seems the snowy Army - Navy game which got its highest ratings in 15 years on CBS and was the seventh highest rated college game this year - dominated the time slot with 6.3 million viewers

So encouraging to hear of 25% increase overall and 40% increase in 18-34 demographic.

Let's face it, the playoff structure and schedule must be tweaked and streamlined. Half the battle of tv ratings is schedule predictability. Another part is quality of broadcast...

I'm not sure TV ratings are still assumed to be as reliable a measure of relative popularity as they used to be. The younger demographic, who are more valuable to advertisers, tend not to subscribe to cable/satellite as much as those "old white sports dudes", and :
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/television/numeris-is-calling-but-canadians-need-more-information-about-tv-ratings/article22838581/
To assemble the panels, Numeris needs to call people at home, ask them a few questions and invite them to participate.Do you know many people under 70 who still have a home phone and answer calls from unknown numbers?
