Red Bulls away to Columbus should be interesting. Hopefully Gilberto can do to New England what he did to us.

On a side note, anyone watch LA vs Dallas last week? Thoroughly entertaining game. I'd love to have Fabian Castillo on our team.

Drogba vs Kaka should be fun to watch on Saturday evening. Would've been nice if they were both younger but it should still be entertaining.

Was one of the better US Open Cup finals I've seen. Penalties were much better than typical MLS standard. Hope to hell Philly doesn't play like that on Saturday. Like others said, lets see how the long game tonight affects them.

It's no guarantee, but you gotta admit an exhausted and demoralized team that we've already beat twice this year has to be an ideal situation.

Orlando is pretty much out of the race, TFC's magic number is 4 (5 if you count the most extreme situation). If Orlando beats MTL, it helps us finish better than 6th as that is where we currently sit based on PPG.

The more DC and MTL lose, the better the chances of a home p****** in the first round.

Orlando isn't out yet. A Montreal win knocks out one competitor for the last spot. Of course if TFC really plays well and DC doesn't, we could get a top 2 spot making it better for Montreal to lose. It's complicated.

If we win, surely the best result would be MTL and Orlando getting a tie? It knocks Orlando out of the play off picture, while taking two points off of Montreal. It would certainly be nice to get a p****** place confirmed this weekend before we take on Red Bulls and Crew. Takes a bit of pressure off the boys going in to those games then.

NYC DC tie. Orlando MTL tie, TFC win is the ultimate result.
If orlando win, we'll have MTL 1 point behind us, and Orlando 2 points. That's the worst case scenario. Oh and NYC win. There's a strong chance that this game coming up is the last chance for us to get a W. Lose it, and we're in doodoo.

At this point i want to clinch saturday night... If not it may end up being wednesday the 14th and well I'd rather be able to celebrate with all my fellow supporters Saturday than have to have a subdued post game on the 14th.

Once we clinch we can look at who is above us and who is below us. The ideal situation is DC draws and MTL draws.

Orlando is not going to overtake us as long as we beat Philly. People here are forgetting Orlando only have two games left after Montreal.

So, TFC and ORL win: they are 5 points back with two games left, meaning we only need one point in our last 3 games to stay ahead of them.

However if MTL gets a draw then they'd be three points back with a game in hand. They have a tougher schedule, but with the extra game it's not inconceivable they could overtake us. Especially with that last game in Montreal.

I know everyone wants to clinch as soon as possible, but in this case Orlando is nothing to be worried about and we should be hoping for Montreal (and DC/NE/Columbus) to drop as many points as possible.

NER's next game is at home to Montreal.

Then they close out in Yankee stadium.

Gilberto seems to have found a home - better forward for them then Accam.

In other news, as unlikely as it sounds, if we win the next 2 games, we are guaranteed at least 4th regardless of the result in Montreal. That's a big ask though.

Only 2 games this weekend really matter for us

40K showing up tonight for the home closer for NER against Montreal - become a bit of a tradition for NER to do that.

&

DCU hosting Chicago

Next weeks games for your consideration:

DCU at Columbus

NER at NYCFC

Orlando at Philly

TFC at Montreal

Red Bulls at Chicago

A Montreal loss and they are only able to get 5th (which would take DCU losing twice) or 6th but will be mightily motivated next week vs us.

That 3 points for NER would put them in second for now, 2 points ahead of us, and only that game at Yankee Stadium between them and a bye.

A Montreal win and we remain 2 ahead of NER and 1 ahead of Montreal.

A tie and we are ahead of NER by 1 point and Montreal by 3 (and they can't catch us due to us having more wins).

Frankly, after today, I'd prefer a tie.

Despite what they might say, Montreal is in panic mode. I had a feeling Drogba would start. Away to NE is difficult, Orlando is on a hot streak, and we've had their number this season. I had no doubt they'd throw everything at this game to try and secure their spot in the playoffs.

Beating Montreal next week would most likely get us the #2 seed and could knock Montreal out of the playoffs. Perfect revenge for the Voyageurs Cup :ihih:

Montreal winning better for us because getting a home playoff date is now all in our hands because if New England would have won and then won their last game next week and DC wins this week and next week and Columbus wins next week even if we would beat Montreal next week we would still finish below 4th, and thus not get a home playoff date.

If we win or tie next week, we get a home game in the first round. A win by Montreal next week and they get a home game.

With a win by us in Montreal, we can get 2nd if:

a) DCU wins tomorrow against Chicago, it would take a tie between Columbus and DCU.

b) If DCU ties or loses tomorrow, a win coupled with a Columbus tie or loss against DCU and we get second.

If we lose next week, the only way we could get a home game first round is if DCU loses the next 2 games and NER loses.

Timbers doing Whitecaps a huge favour tonight. Assuming this holds, Vancouver can retake 2nd if they beat Houston, unless LA beats SKC on the road.

In between, LA has a CCL game in Guatemala on Wednesday and Vancouver have a game in Honduras (although I'm not sure what the rules are, they'll send the reserves to the extent they can, LA have already qualified, Vancouver are out)

Yes, I know, there's Rugby World Cup and EPL and all sorts of other stuff.

But I've grown accustomed to the steady supply all weekend of local (relatively) games that include my team and its opponents.

When TFC first came into the league the DC fans were the best in the league. The league owes those fans; they've put up with such awful bullshit over the past few years. Apparently Gerrard was pulling a bit of a Defoe in that he'd fly back to England periodically. He (along with Drogba) also has a contract stipulation that they fly first class everywhere. I remain unimpressed by him. We'll see what he does next season after a few months off but the dude can't cover ground anymore like he used to. LAG's bigger issue is Dos Santos can't play with Keane.

My 2 sentence or less blurb on all remaining teams

Dallas: Good team but not much without Mauro Diaz
Vancouver: Too injury ravaged in midfield + offence not clicking
Portland: Been inconsistent all year but somehow in form now
Seattle: No Alonso means vulnerable defence. Dempsey + Martins carries their team.
SKC: Also too injury prone and vulnerable. No Espinoza hurts big time.

NYRB: Probably most balanced team other than Dallas. Most teams can't handle their high press.
Columbus: Motivated Kamara and tricky Higuain + Berhalter finally figured out Crew defence.
Mtl: Riding on Piatti and Drogba, but few teams capable of defending against those 2.
DCU: Gets blown out one game, grinds out wins when unexpected.
TFC: Giovinco factor is pretty much only way TFC wins.

Here's hoping CBUs is a little more difficult to beat at home but I suspect that one's getting won on away goals by that other team.

I missed all the first legs last week, so I'm really looking forward to catching all if not most of today's action.

I say it ends up MTL vs NYRB, and Seattle vs Portland.

First game NYRB hosting DCU is going to be a blow out I suspect.

Quite enjoyable game, 0-0 at the half, Red Bulls somewhat better. It's instructive looking at these two teams. Defense much better than TFC, offence way worse. So many chances Giovinco would have scored on that they couldn't finish.

Why we should be watching other MLS games at this time of the season.

We are so much better then DCU except in keeper and defence. Even Birnbaum, a CD playing RB, is better then any of our RB's (baring Morrow).

I'm not sure if it's arrogance scheduling the playoffs on Sunday each year or just rank stupidity.

Not sure there is a better day though. Saturday is College Football day and that is bigger then the NFL right now.

RB average attendance this season is 19,657 in a 25K arena. Only sold out for derby matches.

The bye weeks don't really help. Screws up the continuity. But yeah, I always forget how insanely popular NCAA football is. They could have them on Friday nights; worked for boxing for years.

Great curving pass from outside of Veron's foot for the Red Bull goal.

About the same weather in CLB as it is here in the GTA, and a much less than full stadium judging from camera shots.

I despise both of these teams equally, but if I HAD to pick a team to book their tee times, it's the crew

Oh look, home field playing a role.

And that's why this league needs instant replay. Any goal should be judgeable by a central office. That goal should not have counted.

Can we really still critize other teams attendance, there is probably about 19000 in Colombus from the looks of it nothing wrong with that, how much more really do you think we would have had at BMO for a playoff game maybe a couple of thousand more maybe, and that crappy stadium in Colombus looks a lot more like a soccer stadium than that new CFL stadium we will be playing in from now on.

Is this where one points out how this coach who got CBus to second hasn't made a sub yet in the 73rd minute.

i.e. Bad subbing isn't just a Vanney thing.

Look at Montreal. Bernier is relegated to practically nothing with Klopas and then suddenly he's the captain under the new manager.

Half these guys are rank amateurs who simply make things up. Bad coaching is certainly not just a problem our team has.
