The East is pretty set with DC, NYRB, Columbus, TFC and NE pretty much qualified for post season. Orlando holds 6th seed for now but 7th to 10th can also have a shot. Mtl with all the games in hand looks to be in the driver seat for the final spot, but time is running out and fatigue from so many games will take toll, esp with Drogba and Piatti not match fit and Mtl has poor depth. Plus who knows how coaching change will effect the squad.

The West is a bit more interesting story with some bottom teams making a strong run lately. LA and Vancouver have pretty much secured a spot, but if any of the teams holding a playoff spot falters and some other teams make a run, 3 to 6th seed could go to anyone. The key is Seattle vs Portland game at 430 that may be the key decider.

TFC has 9 pt lead on 7th seed plus some games in hand vs couple of teams. If TFC screw this up somehow, esp with easy schedule for the rest of the season. I'm going to support Colorado or something :p

A reminder of our remaining schedule

AT Seattle Sept 5

Home NER Sept 13

AT NYCFC Sept 16

Home Colorado Sept 19

Home Chicago Sept 26

Home Philly Oct 3

Home NYRB Oct 14

Home Crew Oct 17

Away Impact Oct 25

That patch where we play 3 in 6 days is going to be tough. Thankfully its only a trip down to NY in between but both NER and Colorado are coming on strong of late.

We have a favorable schedule, and the above could realistically be 4 wins in a row. We should be able to finish the year strong.

Expect the following results L-W-W-W-W-W-D-D-D

yes I know it's undefeated in the last 8 games but have you seen our opposition

18 points, 52 overall

NYRB dismantled DCU. It was pretty scary. NYRB has so much speed and well organized to punish teams esp on the counter. I don't want to meet them in the playoffs

A top-2 seed is within reach, we are 7 points back of DC with 3 games in hand. But that assumes we win all the games we're supposed to (which never happens) so I'll say we most likely end up 3rd.

I think Montreal falls into that last spot, mainly because the other teams are equally uninspiring. The West is interesting though, Seattle needs to get their act together fast or San Jose will pass them by.

I wanted to know what the "magic number" is for making the playoffs. So I created a table that shows the maximum possible number of points possible if each team wins all of their remaining games. So at the moment, we need 52 points to guarantee us a play-off spot. This will change, of course, as teams drop points.

I also thought I'd throw in the Supporters Shield race, too.

47-48pts ish should be the magic number for playoffs this season w 6 teams per conference

Per Sports Club Stats, 43 gives you a 95%+ chance of being in. 47 makes it 100%. Two more wins brings it to 43. It would be epic for TFC to fail at this point (not to say that they can't, TFC has found more ways to fail in the past than any one could expect).

Priority 1

Get in the playoffs

Priority 2

Get a home game in the first round

Priority 3

Get a bye to the second round

I really doubt we challenge for top 2 and it would be nice to play a home playoff game that Wednseday night but we first gotta make the playoffs.

We've gotten a couple results on the road, but I genuinely think we need that home playoff game for a shot to move on.

The only teams I'm not confident about having to play in the playoffs are NYRB and Columbus

notthesun

I'd be okay with Columbus. Similarly to us they have had a pretty weak defense and a pretty scary offense. It would probably be an exciting match up.

The Red Bulls have to be the clear pick to come out of the East at this point. Their goal difference is way ahead of any other team in the conference.

Columbus? Hell, I'd got so used to the season being over after 34 games, I'd not given any thought to going on a road trip to see TFC in post-season play.

Maybe I'll save my money for a road trip to Columbus instead of going to see TFC beat Montreal at The Cheese Shop.
