View Full Version : "We will have a striker by tomorrow" - Carver

The man himself said it outside gate 4 today. This may coincide with the thread about McBride, maybe Rolfe? If Carver is a man of his word (which I believe he is) help will arrive tomorrow.

Well, Barett could be a good acquisition but only if we pick up a more experienced striker within the week as well. Barett is certainly not going to be the answer, but if we can get a young guy with potential then that may not be a bad thing either.

I agree with your last point. Perhaps we should not complain however we also won't be seeing many more goals in the back of the net either. We would basically be swapping one inept striker for another.

Anyways... if this is the case I hope Chad can turn things around here, maybe that is all he needs (likely not). The deal can really be evaluated after the draft next year when we can look back on what Brian / Chad do and what we get in the draft (I'd be willing to bet it will be a forward ;))

We have a problem with Cunningham b/c nobody wants him. My wife and I spoke to MO this week while he had quite a few in him. I'm not so sure we do, I think with Dunivant's ankle and Dichio's concussion we could possibly have two spots opening up due to long term injury reserves.

League did it to us? I don't think they did at all, I think our shit situation did this to us. With Dichio possibly out for the season, we HAD to sign someone and we weren't getting anything better from Shitcago for MsBridesmaid.

Barrett is not the answer, alone. We need a finisher and we'll be fine up front. Barrett is an upgrade over Smith, Cunny and dare I say Dichio... solely for the fact that I think this concussion could be the end for him.

Barrett is a good deal, with the money and pick. He is still young, McBride is old as fuck. And Barrett will provide the striker depth *when* we sign a dp striker.

I agree, he's fuckin class act...knows more about the game than most coaches in this shiite league, you all just shit on them when things dont go your way, this team doesnt deserve fans like you who pull one 180's and call for his head everytime something goes wrong. Its not his fault we havent got the players to work with, he does alright with what we have, and we will get better.

i like how carever said no wonder your city hasnt won in hockey in over 40 years, because you drive all the good ppl out with your negativity, be postive support Carver, half a season and some people are saying go back to england hahahaha...you make me laugh, it is clear that you are a leaf fan( which is very unfortunate cause theyre shit).

Bellamy.

*snort*

Carver saw what Bellamy is like at Newcastle, I doubt he'd sign that (favourite expletive here).

I'm happy about Barrett, but I still expect them to sign a real quality striker. Our midfield and defence are both strong, it makes sense to use our DP slot on a striker.

As for Carver, what's everyone's big problem with him? The only thing I can really criticize is that he made a huge blunder by taking off Ricketts, Robert and Dichio in that Vancouver game, and at the time he was messing around with formations that never had a chance of working properly. And he's a bit of a loudmouth, but hey, we like that here in Toronto. ;) I've been happy generally with his tactics this year, if only we'd had a proper striker we'd be laughing.

I say we make a bid for Totti! :D

I was there to and MO told us Indepentie and Pachuaca were coming.

I think the bottom line is nobody good wants to come here.

Dude, Pachuca and Independiente are both good teams...

Not as well known as the big European clubs, of course, but they're still quality.

Right. That makes more sense.

Well, let's see what happens. I'm hoping that something positive can come out of the extra exposure the league is getting and the All-Star thing (which is mainly down to Beckham) and that more players will start to consider MLS as a viable option.

Then if we could just get that damn grass...

You're right. Look at the crap media the guy has to put up with, that the league makes him talk to, it seems like every day. The salary cap restrictions and other roster crap (and all the other things keeping players form signing here) and the guy keeps working and working.

We will get better and stay better.

Mo is a great ambassador for TFC and for the sport. If you talk to him properly he will respond with proper answers. I remember at the reserve
game against the Red Bulls ( ARE SHITE!:D) we jokingly asked him about
when will we see a DP, and he gave us a joke answer. Then we asked him about who the friendly matches would be against. He gave us the
correct answer even before it was official. Mo is a class act.

Mo is a great ambassador for himself. He just happens to be in a good spot.

He may yet turn out to be an astute, championship winning G.M with TFC. I have my well documented doubts.

JC has forgotten more about man mgmt & coaching than Mo will ever learn.

The fact that Mo pointed at the box and said he's up there and that Rolfe was seen at the game gives me hope.
Please god let it be Rolfe.

Maybe he was pointing at the sky and meant they are signing someone who died at the age of 73. Would probably be a few years older than most of our players but in the ballpark when it comes to age!:p

That video is ridiculous....especially the actual goals he's scored.

..video displays "note lack of difficulty"...what the hell do they want...a bicycle kick volley goal every time.

Some of his finishes were actually quite clinical for a player who is not yet 23.

As for his misses....once again...he's still a young player....sure some of them were bad...but put a string of highlight reel type misses of any striker in the world and Im sure it would seem shocking.

One thing is clear...his work rate seems very positive...and if nothing else...that's something we can use. We'll see what type of finisher he can be with TFC as time goes on.

But that video is just nonsense...as most youtube videos are.

haha i thought that same thing! Actually I thought a couple of the goals where we is fighting off the defenders were pretty good.
no reason to pull some hot dog move just to show off when you have a clear shot.

I agree with the above posts. Any striker in the world is going to have missed opportunities. Just the fact that he is in position for those chances is a good sign.

I would love to see a video montage of Cunningham's screw-ups...it would be an hour long horror movie...

Just his breakaway misses alone could be made into a three part trilogy.

Bottom line is that Chad Barrett...whether he fell out of favour or not with the Chicago Fire supporters is a decent quality striker for this league.

Maybe not a primary striker for a team looking to achieve trophy's...but definitely a solid player at his age.

127 gave him a chant at half-time "Where's our striker?"

He pointed up to one of the boxes and said "He's up there"

Couldn't see what box he pointed to though

Was he pointing to God, possibly? ;)

the Du Nord blog indicates that Ibrahim is over in Europe with the US U20 team for a tournament.

I sure hope Barrett is with the club in Salt Lake or else, god forbid, Cunningham might have to start?

i don't know who's in charge of scouting for TFC but I've read over and over ad over again how we should be looking in South America....I also believe this..........what about a Marioni whos playing for River.......or Luis Tejada Panaminian striker whos had an excellent season for Amercia De Cali in colombia ( I believe 13 goals).......or Cabanas form America in Mexico........or young raw Talent in Hugo Rodallega (colombian sniper) U-20 star who was top scorer in South American championship a couple years ago...who featured the likes of Aguero.......man I'd love to see Radamel Falcao over here from River.....man has lots of talent.....I swear give Radamel DP money and it would be worth it........(natural goal scorer)

some of the misses were shocking but he is a young fella still, he has excellent touch, good balance, positioning, and better composure than cunningham. im sure he'll have plenty of misses but he will create enough chances for himself to make up with a goal or two.

There is no indication that the names you mentioned are any more interested in MLS, and specifically TFC, than your equivalent euro.

"We will have a striker by tomorrow" - Carver (http://www.redpatchboys.ca/forums/showthread.php?p=104467#post104467)I guess he meant that Cunningham would be demoted, and we would have a striker, rather than two strikers.
