The best way I have to think about this game is a Shakespeare quote:

We know what we are, but know not what we may be.

Time to figure a few things out.

We'll beat them handily if they bunker with a 4-4-2. They don't have the players to do the same thing The Team From Saturday did to us.

Weather should be pretty good for a match on Wednesday night. Looking at a midday high of 24 with clouds, and obviously that's gonna drop down as kick-off approaches. Even though we're coming off a loss at home against NYC and Montreal is starting to gain momentum in the standings with their recent record, I'm pretty confident we can pick up the full three points on the 24th.

I refuse to live in a world where stating the trends is a bad thing. :scarf:

Montreal has been playing well. But their defence hasn't had to deal with what we can do offensively.

3-1 for the good guys.

GOOD NEWS

Niggly shit less likely to happen. Kelly was the 4th official on Saturday and looked somewhat shagrinned at what he was seeing going on out there.

Do you think there is a "Jermaine Defoe" clause in Jozy's contract?

"The undersigned will take all necessary actions to instill confidence in the fanbase that said MLSE asset is content within both Toronto FC and the city of Toronto. This includes fan interactions on personal time, social media posts, and media interviews"

He seems to always be mentioning the fans and the city. It's nice to have a guy expressing very openly he's enjoying his time with the team for a change!

I like this Delgado kid. Perquis and creavalle really needs to learn to keep things simple.

ag futbol
06-24-2015, 08:01 PM
I think Perquis deserves a lot of credit for his work on the ball - it makes our whole team look better. His ability to step into space or find the open man gives teams a lot more to think about. In comparison, the average CB we've had on this team looks awful on the ball and stares down their target to the point where the other team just drops it's strikers into the midfield to crowd out our players and pick off easy predictable passes.

So credit where it's due.

ag futbol
06-24-2015, 08:06 PM
I am normally a fan of Morrow, but on that one pass from Bradley he took like 3 or four touches to settle the ball. If he had taken it first time he would have been full steam ahead and created a direct scoring chance. Instead he took too long and the opportunity was wasted.

The offensive prowess of our fullbacks is generally over stated. They have a platform to be incredibly dominant but they aren't taking it. Once teams are done covering bradley, gio, and altidore ... that space is always open.

koolvid12
06-24-2015, 08:13 PM
Bradley has been excellent loved that run and pass at the 10min mark and nice box to box midfield goal. We need players to make those runs and help Gio.

James17930
06-24-2015, 08:16 PM
I'm thinking they should try to use some basketball strategy here ... pass it into Gio and let them double/triple team him, then have someone right there in support to take a pass and quickly get it to someone running into the space before Montreal can recover. They haven't really looked intent on doing that so far.

Actually that's been his asset this game - going forward he's running past the Impact easily. But he gets caught out of position from RB. But high up the field he's causing problems for Montreal.
Just when he hangs onto it too long and coughs it up, then he's way too deep to help out on the counter. He's ostensibly a defender, which is why I'd rather he not dribble quite so much. He's been better in the second half.

Jack
06-24-2015, 08:33 PM

James17930
06-24-2015, 08:34 PM
If we can criticise Gio, we might say he sometimes tries to do too much ... like right there, he's getting double teamed and he's trying to dribble through/around two guys when he's got support right behind. He should pass it off there, but instead he gets dispossessed.

I think it's something they need to be a bit more aware of.

This team looks like a "professional" team - maybe for the first time in our history!

The buildups and resulting scoring chances were outstanding - I don't remember a game where we had that many "real" scoring chances

Michael Bradley played "world class" and always seems to need a game to get back into it after International leaves.

Tremendous "poise" with the ball all over the pitch

Very well played by the whole squad, but where was Findley when Jackson made that run around 90mins? Jackson was looking for player to pass to but no one was around until Bradley came up. On TV it looked like Findley was still hanging around half. If he wants a chance at starting he's gotta do more, even if we're up by 2 in the dying minutes.

Findley reminds me of Moore sometimes. Potential but not motivated.

I was expecting a more even match. We just dummied them all over the pitch tonight, and it was a thing of beauty. The score was flattering to Montreal.

I honestly can't recall a TFC squad that has been able to maintain possession as well as this team. Our passing sequences and movement off the ball has been superb, and continues to improve.

I just hope our level of play doesn't drop off drastically when we lose Bradley, Altidore, Osorio, and Morgan during the Gold Cup.

He's a good midfield option...Lovitz is becoming more dispensable.

More interesting is why Hamilton can't buy minutes off the useless Findlay and sometimes lazy Moore.

I think you need to trust that Vanney knows when is the right time to throw a kid in, he sees them develop every day in training. I am sure Delgado benefited a lot from the games he played in the U20 World Cup so perhaps that helped him get his call up tonight.

One of the best performances I have ever seen from TFC. Some of the passing was sublime. We were actually exciting to watch and looked like we were going to create chances every time we moved forward. Bradley and Seba the obvious stars of the night but good performances by pretty much every other player. Creavelle was much better than usual, Warner solid, very mature performance by Delgado, Osario I thought had a great game both creatively and defensively. Just what we needed after last Sat

Delighted for Marky Delgado tonight. Kid is a stud. He showed glimpses of it at Chivas last year. I specifiacally remember him pinging a ball on to Cubo Torres head to beat the Whitecaps and win me a lot of money. Loved the kid since then and delighted he ended up with us.

Fantastic game. We absolutely crushed them second half. I see few teams being able to handle us when Giovinco is the best player on the pitch, and I see even fewer when our 3 DPs are the three best. It really looks like we nailed it on each of their signings.

Watching Giovinco live is just incredible. So shifty, so aware of the players around him, the thought of defending against him is mind-boggling. Made Ciman, probably a top 3 CB in the league, look foolish more than once.

Bradley was an absolute monster today. This tops his first game against Seattle for me. How many pinpoint long balls did he spray around the pitch?

And I just love Altidore. Gets himself involved in link up play, the best holding forward in the league, and even when it looks like he's drifting out of games he just needs that one chance. His finish today perfection.

This was a complete win against a team in good form no less. I could praise every player... Zavaleta continues to look super solid (yes he'll make the odd mistake on the ball but that's a hundred times better than having him dive recklessly into tackles like many of our recent CBs), Warner and Osorio both continue to prove their worth and Perquis's passing ability was a huge bonus today. And Delgado, can't say enough about him. Exactly what you want from your bench guys. Nothing fancy, just played smart passes, worked hard, involved himself in the build up.

Last point, I saw some flashes from Findley. Similarly to playing Creavalle at RB early on (to his credit he did decently well there today), Findley has been misused. May actually be worth our while to keep him around as striker depth during the Gold Cup.

Areathrasher
06-24-2015, 11:10 PM
Agree with that. Findley looked dangerous when he came on. I was in 115 tonight so right behind the goal, he ran the channels brilliantly and gave Oyongo some trouble. If Bradley had released the ball sooner a couple of times im sure he would have had a goal.

In all seriousness, I don't see anything wrong with Konopka's actions. I think it shows affinity with the fans. One of my favourite moments from the vancouver winter games was when one of our athletes against all odds medaled (skeleton?) and promptly after his run walked through the crowd, accepted a beer that someone had given to him along the way, and drank it as he walked to the podium. It was a sort of humble action in my opinion and I view what Konopka did in the same light.

I was at the game and lucky enough to get some seats in 113. i don't usually sit (stand) there, but it's extra enjoyable when i do. RPBs were in truly fine voice and it was a real pleasure to sing and bounce with you. i have been to a lot of games since year one and last night was probably the most fun i have had at BMO.

As for the match, there were a couple instances in the second when the ball movement and overall passing was so precise and dare i say almost Barcelona like. Ball was literally moving around the whole team around the entire pitch. It got me thinking how much of a far cry this team (and the league) is from the days of Chad Barrett and Dan Gargan.

Jozy. the guy is a beast. What a revelation compared to defoe.
Everyone played well, but Crevalle in particular looked solid and dangerous in attack.

These appear to be some real good times for us and for once it doesn't look like fool's gold.

It's a call and response and it's brilliant. We first did it last season and it caught on really well. The top of 113 even joined in and it had all the cops and security staff chuckling. It is most definitely not PC, but it is fun as hell. As you go, it gets longer because you repeat the last line of each verse (just like in Alouette).

The chorus is like this:
Beat the Impact, beat the fuckin' Impact.
Beat the Impact back to Montreal.

I don't remember all of the verses. Maybe @wowza; will be able to chime in g:D

Yeah, Warner was good as a more typical DM. He obviously didn't give us Cheyrou's distribution, but his tough work on the ball allowed him to get it to the guys who make stuff happen. I noticed Bradley was often making himself available to Warner for that quick outlet.

Seconded. Delgado looked fantastic and made lots of precise passes and had great close control. Not to slight Chapman, but we can't take away anything from Delgado who did great.

I really think that come the gold cup we're going to see Cheyrou play the Bradley role with Warner as the DM. That leaves us with a midfield that could include both Chapman and Delgado, but more likley than not it will be Jackson and one of those two kids.

Personally I'd rather see much more of Delgado AND Chapman than players like Jackson. Both players could have a good future.
Still think Jackson has a place off the bench and is at least non-facepalm depth. If a real good offer came then I would part with him for sure but I think the possible emergence of Delgado and Chapman has spelled the end of Lovitz here. He has no place and no chance from what I have seen and it gets even worse when you look at what TFC II will eventually have to offer.

but jackson off the bench is potent. he is fast fwd and defensively. sure he isnt pretty, but for the last 10-15 minutes he really gets the job down well. hes strong and fast, and agasint a tired D he is effective

That was some fantastic play from TFC last night. The passing was great. It was actually like watching an EPL team pass the ball around. Such a contrast from some of the rubbish we have had to endure in the past. I think Konopka could have maybe had the save on their goal but it was hard to tell on TV if he was screened. Did anyone in 115 get a good look at it? Man, what a game for me to miss in person. Stupid thing is the reason I missed it fell through at the last minute but it was too late to get downtown. Oh well.

Creavalle actually screened Konopka on the goal, you can see it in the replay. It was only for a moment, but it was right when the shot came. Creavalle was running across in front of goal to get back to his RB position, and the shot came in behind Creavalle just as he was passing Konopka. It wasn't really an error by Creavalle either: as this was a fast counter-attack right after our own corner kick, everybody was scrambling to get back into position. Shit happens.

The only thing: Montreal has recently become known as a very potent counter-attacking team. I think they should have setup differently for corner kicks & free kicks at the other end. Sure send the big guys forward; but keep 1 or 2 additional short/fast guys back further. There were a couple of other occasions that could easily have turned into goals for Montreal.

Piatti is a pleasure to watch too, school morrow that led to the goal

We really trashed them. Giovinco with a ridiculous 13 shot attempts and Bradley with an equally ridiculous 11 successful long balls out of 12.

These are exciting times. This team is really coming together! On to the DC United game!

Both Zavaleta and Perquis are really doing a good job with their passing. It makes a big difference when we can push the ball back out to them and knock it around to keep possession. Perquis made some killer long passes, too.

Perqius made an amazing diagonal pass in the first half that was Champions League material. When everybody plays to their full potential this team is unstoppable.

Perquis' precision out of the back with long, hard ground passes up to the midfielders and forwards has been pretty dangerous. Transition is very quick as a result.

Perquis is looking more and more the player I remember for that Euro 2012 tourney. Very happy to have a Polish International on this team and performing!

I'm still learning about the game. In contrast to a few posts about Creavalle having a good attacking performance, I was consistently frustrated with him in the 2nd half... from my viewpoint in s/w.

He looked good running across enemy lines but seemed to not know what to do once he got there. He seemed unaware of his teammates' runs/movements into open passing space and/or open crossing positions. I don't know how good (or not) his crosses are; but I wished he crossed to an open Giovinco at one point. There were a couple times I wished he passed, once to Goaltidore, and another to Delgado... I'm not sure if he didn't look up, just not see them, or didn't recognise the (or what I saw as as an) opportunity.

So, looking to learn, what moments in the 2nd half did I miss where Creavalle did a good attacking job in the final 3rd?

Just to add...again from my viewing point, Oso and Warner were studly in winning balls back last night.

I literally sat up in my chair when he made that pass and backed up the feed to see it again. It was phenomenal. Accurate and perfectly weighted. I think my wife got tired of hearing about how well we were passing g:D

So glad i didn't have to watch lazy Luke Moore tonight. sadly he'll be back getting minutes when jozy leaves for the Gold Cup. I'm already cringing thinking about him and Jackson getting more minutes

I agree (although Luke is starting to pick up the slack a bit.). It was nice to see our two top striking partners on the pitch today... And what a game by Bradley! A goal and two assists!! What a stud!!

Bradley involved in all 3 goals today. The goal, Long range assist, and great pass that set up gio to draw the penalty. Money well spent with all our DPs.

I agree. This force is unstoppable at the moment.

Just a quick question. Who decides who is the man of the match at the end of the game? Obviously I know the players don't really care about that but I was shocked it wasn't Bradley after the Montreal game. He scored a goal and made the pass that led to both other goals. On top of that, he just completely owned the midfield all game. Like I said, it doesn't matter but it just made no sense that it wasn't him.

Actually, it started 6 years ago in upper 110, where we still sing most of the original verses.

I made no mention of when it started, I said "we" as in section 112. Or at least, that's the first time I remember it in 112/113. I haven't been to every match. I'm not trying to take away your glory ;). The chant is awesome.

It certainly has been a great tradition to hear that chant every year in 110. It's the highlight of my season! lol

Didn't think you were Jack, just wanted to point out the song is a tradition almost as old as TFC. :)

The inspiration for it was actually a song about Sunderland, which I'll post in the chants section if I can find it before the Sunderland game.

Fantastic stuff. I only wish I'd heard it sooner. I was singing it for weeks after the first time I was there for it in 112 last season. In fact, I'm singing it in my head right now g:D

Me too! When my buddies and I get hammered, we sometimes sing it in bars. g:D
