This is a weird and interesting tournament. The African team TP Mazembe pulled out when a home-league playoff game was rescheduled at the last second, so a team of English unsigned players and some Americans called "London United" is replacing them. Koge are a second-div team in Denmark but very well funded. If there's a "should win" it's against OKC, obviously, although they do apparently have a few ex-MLS players on roster.

4 games to perfect our style and get us ready for the season. I expect to see players working hard to win a spot. The rest will win the bench when the season starts. Yes, it's only a friendly, and yes, it doesn't mean anything. But if we see lack of effort/passion from certain players then that's a big worry. Assistant coach said as much: it's in these games you earn your spot.

So we don't need to prepare our squad and give them maximum time to gel together before game 1? I guess not. Like I said, you never know with TFC. Failed to make the play-offs 8 years in a row. Maybe this time they'll take these friendlies (preparation) a bit more seriously. I agree it's not about the result, but we do need to see the team/shape coming together in a BIG way. Otherwise we'll be doomed when we face Vancouver in a few weeks time. 2 1/2 weeks to be battle ready!

I imagine we would be playing with our best possible line-up (we only have 4 friendlies, so don't have much time to lose). But in the second half you may see a few other players get a chance. Either way, they have to earn their way into the squad through training. I'll be a little annoyed if we don't use these friendlies to get our best 11 to gel perfectly. That should be priority #1. Unless the plan is to begin work on gelling when the season starts?

Vanney told me at the event last week that the current plan is to play a 4-2-3-1, with Giovinco playing underneath Altidore, so this looks like a graphics limitation. I was also asking about positional battles (Jackson vs. Lovitz vs. Findley on the wing, for example) and said that I assumed the back 4 was set. He told me that the 4 starters at the back were definitely not set, so Hagglund's appearance here over Caldwell seems to confirm that.

Cheyrou and Perquis are awesome. Cheyrou is clearly a step above most MLS players technically and very composed on the ball. Perquis may be one of best ball passing defender in MLS. Both had a lot of good long passes even with ridiculous wind.

OKC is clogging the middle, and it's not allowing much space for Giovinco to do his thing. Osorio has been poor and Findley is not a winger, but we should have known this. Lack of width, despite fullbacks doing a good job of supporting the attack, is allowing OKC to stop TFC attack through the middle.

the good: You can tell quality is a lot better. Perquis controlled the back very nicely, stretching the ball out. Bradley great, Morrow great. Osorio and Giovinco good as well. Cheyrou looks good.

the bad: Findley look out of place. Bloom not the greatest as expected.

Although the team obviously needs time to develop a sense of cohesion, the upgrade in skill and technical ability is evident. My concern is that we still lack width. Osorio and Findley are playing out of position and it shows. That leaves Jackson and Lovitz. Not bad, but definitely an area that needs improvement.

Agree on players mentioned but special mention for Morrow. I need more linking up, though not the Oduro run and cross.

Morgan was not drafted, he was a home-grown. He had improved significantly under Winter's tenure, solidifying himself as a started but has fallen apart ever since. I think Morgan has the talent but needs to regain his confidence. I still remember that horrified look in his face when he went to take athrow-in during a game. I felt pretty bad for him, nervous with confidence shot.
