A big game. Very big. A real test of what this team is capable of.

SKC rested a few for this game, as did we.

SKC is going to press us hard and Bradley in particular. We will have to be mobile, quick and accurate with the passing.

Time for the boys to step up.

And, to top it off:

According to the Weather network, its going to be raining all day.

SKC has to be nervous about going into this game considering our games in hand. I think we will have the mental advantage anyways.

I'm worried about an in form Sapong and Dwyer vs. that back line. Not to mention the form that Feilhaber, Collin, Sinovic, Besler etc. have been in. We'll have our hands full, but if everyone is on point I don't see why we can't take 3 points from this one.

Nothing wrong with TSN2. It is way more visible than GolTV, SN1, or SN360. We don't have the audience to get on the main network unless there is a dearth of other options (ie no curling, Hockey, CFL, NBA, etc...)

with Defoe out maybe RN goes to a 4-2-3-1 with a lineup of

-----------Bendik-----------
Creavalle---Orr---Henry---Morrow
-----Warner------Bradley----
Oduro------Osorio-----Lovitz
----------Gilberto-----------

or go with the kids at CB allows Orr at DM and Lovitz on bench.

-----------Bendik-----------
Creavalle---Hagglund---Henry---Morrow
--------Warner-----Orr-----------
Oduro--------Bradley----------Osorio
--------------Gilberto-----------

Creavalle was brought in for his versatility and with Bloom out for at least a month this gives us a good option. Or move Orr to his natural RB (tho seems too slow for that. Plays better at CB or DM) and play Creavalle at DM.
Think Jackson still has that knock tho haven't heard anything since the 18th. 10-14 days out at that time.
Probably the old 4-4-2 will emerge but I can hope for something more like this. Second option also gives Bradley the defensive cover to really move up offensively.

I don't think Creavalle starts. Nelsen seems reluctant to throw people into the mix, so maybe Jackson slots in at RB with Oso on the left.

I have very little expectation for this game in way of a result if I am totally honest. I'd be totally happy if we lost, showed well and dominated the game. SKC is part of the group of teams I just hate (the others are Montreal, Vancouver and Philadelphia).

I think there's a chance Jackson starts at right back because when he and Bloom went out I remember Nelsen saying something along the lines of it being frustrating because Jackson was the next in line at right back.

Bendik, Jackson, Hagglund, Henry, Morrow, Oduro, Warner, Bradley, Osorio, Moore, Gilberto

Subs if winning: Lovitz for Oduro (70'), Orr for Osorio (75')

Subs if losing: De Rosario for Warner (80')

Subs if drawing: Lovitz for Oduro (55'), Orr for Jackson (75')

2-1 loss but hoping I'm wrong.

With Defoe out, and a game against a top opponent, I wouldn't be adverse to seeing Nelson try something new.

Gilberto up top as target man might just work for a game or two. If nothing else, Nelson could start to develop an alternative to his rigid 4-4-2. To take the squad to the next level we need to develop tactical flexibility now.

I would love to see:

4-1-4-1

-----------------Bendik---------------
Hagglund--Orr----Henry-------Morrow
----------------Warner------------------
Oduro-----Osorio---Bradley---Jackson
---------------Gilberto------------------

Not much hope of seeing this, but why not place some actual trust in the backline and field an attacking 3-4-3?

---------------Bendik--------------------
----Hagglund----Orr-----Henry----------
Oduro-----Osorio---Bradley----Jackson
--DeRosario---Gilberto---Wiedeman---

SKC is almost at full strength unlike last game. They are equally tired as TFC with just as many games over last few weeks and played a friendly vs Man City on Wed. So you'd think their traditional full court press tactic isn't going to be as effective as fatigue sets in. But SKC has been winning their league games and their depth IMO is better than TFC.

All depends on whether SKC can smother Bradley with pressure, who hasn't look comfortable dealing with pressure and been turning over the ball a lot. TFC must also be smarter and not use Bradley as a dumping ground whenever they get the ball, and use Bradley more intelligently (like, look for other options other than Bradley)

Big test with two 6 pointers in a row against teams higher in the standings. This being the final home game before 4 road games it seems really important to extend the modest 3 game unbeaten run. Unfortunately SkC is in form winning 5 of last 6 in there unbeaten rampage where they haven't lost a league game since end of May!

It will be a test of TFC team depth with 3 starter roles back filled and a big opportunity for Gilberto who will now benefit from being the main target of the teams buildup play.

It's hard to believe that they won't be back to BMO until August 23rd and will play skc a third time this season before the return game vs Chicago.

Hoping for a spectacle and 3 point send off!

Looks like it's going to be rainy and a little chilly tomorrow evening in Toronto. Excellent news for us as Kansas City has seen temperatures of around 30-32 Celcius over the past few days. It even hit as high as 38 degrees yesterday in KC, so Saturday's expected forecast of 22 and rain clouds may be a bit of a shock for the visiting team.

KC is coming into town with a record of 10-5-5, and have won 4 of their last 5 matches. In fact, they haven't lost a match since the end of May. They're also one of the league's top goal leaders with 29 goals for. They've given up 18 goals themselves giving them a differential of +11.

With Defoe suspended and Bloom and Caldwell injured, things aren't looking great for Toronto coming into the match tomorrow. But KC isn't invincible and we were able to get the away draw from them back in May, so there's that to consider. A win would be huge for TFC - at least moreso than usual against any other Eastern club. It would be awesome to pick up three points at home before we start the four game road schedule coming up.

LoL. Its a broken record with him, I've lost hope of him ever being a good passer out of the back.

Its funny how the coaches know that he is garbage at kicking from out the back yet still let him continually do it. All that he needs to do is make simple pass to one the defenders.

Ref is outside anyone's control so it is pointless to spend any time focusing on it.

It's like the weather in a round of golf. You don't control it, you just deal with the conditions and try to make the best shot you can.

Entertaining game for the most part as far as MLS goes. We had chances. They has chances. Good saves at both ends. Oduro was fun to watch on the wing and made some great crosses and passes all night long.

Jackson probably won't sleep well but game tape will show that he was open most of the night. If SKC don't fix that, it could be a playoff nuance we could exploit if we end up as one of the 50% that remain after they have collected all the regular season ticket money.

They have a boss in the middle of there D..we don't mistake after mistake every game, until we fix that we are pretenders..

I feel like this match needs its own drinking game.

Ref blew his whistle - Drink
blew it twice or more for the same reason - Double drink
Ref does a weird stand while keeping players apart - Do the stance and drink till he stops.
Yellow card - Drink and say something a 12 year old would say back at him.

Oduro burns someone - Drink
Jackson misses - Drink and slap forehead
Bradley puts a ball almost past the goal line - Drink as the forward chases it
Match congestion talk - Pick how many games would be appropriate in July, drink that number.

Shot of Nellys face, likely yelling at the fourth: Drink till they cut away & single drink if they cut back, finish if he's still yelling.

Watching the replay at home will be way more entertaining.

We deserved to win tonight based on the run of play. SKC capitalized when they needed to, and we let one slip away. It happens, and it stings.

reading some of the SKC commentors and watching Vermes and his team play tonight has really put a sour taste in my mouth. So arrogant (their fans) and thuggish (their team). Putting a bad name to a success story that should be admired.

I probably hate SKC more than any team in MLS right now after this, more than Montreal even. That said, I hope we crush them in the playoffs.

Bradley has been average. Not even close to 6Mil dollar valuation...

He is playing on a injury. Shut the stupid guy down and have him ready for the playoffs.

Good game, but hard to watch when KC got ahead. Toronto FC looked like the better club on the pitch for much of the game, but just couldn't contain KC when they needed to. Oduro and Hagglund had two "almost-goals", which would have meant something a lot more if not for a matter of two inches or so. Reffing was incoherent, but we did have the extra man from the 75th minute onward and weren't able to score with the advantage - so the blame gets spread around in my mind. Oduro had an awesome game. I'm seriously glad we picked him up. Bradley had a good night too.

The only thing that bothered me was the distinct lack of rain that was promised by the weather network. I got off the train hoping to see a cool, overcast sky with light rain, but we got nothing.

Why the fuck didn't Nelson switch Useless Moore at 65min with Dero, or Lovitz with Jackson by the 75min, I just don't get Nelson this loss is on him, also Bendik has to learn how distribute the fuckin ball

Yeah, he was outcoached by Vermes in this area. Lovitz, De Rosario and Weideman (Jackson, Moore, Gilberto) should all have been on by 70'. This game was a lot of fun to watch, luck just did not go TFC's way against a team that knows how to win those games and has a lot of quality. When have we ever seen a BMO field crowd repeatedly ooohing-and-aahing at individual skill moves as they have been recently?

Totally agree. Or at least get him fit and playing well if they decide to sell him during the winter. So we can reinvest in a true #10 playmaker type player

Defoe has been worth every penny, hope he stays for future years (given all the rumours of the the UK). He is have been a difference maker.

Bradley will be fine. He played well today and will get better as he finds his role and this team gets better throughout the rest of the season.

I rather lose 5 nil then the way we lost tonight...too lazy to check. I think we hv only 2 wins in the last 10 and 6 were at home...yikes,and now we have a 5 game road trip and the way we are leaking goals it may get worse, with no help on the way on D.
RN actually called out his D tonight.

We won this game, we just didn't score more goals. This game was a statistical anomaly.

If we can play like this against SKC, we can play like this against anyone.

LOOK THE FUCK OUT MLS

I like this post. And it's true, you know. TFC really showed effort tonight but just didn't get the result. KC is a team that will exploit even the smallest mistakes you make and they did exactly that tonight. But this game could easily have been ours and I like to think it probably would have been if Defoe was playing as well as maybe Caldwell and Bloom.

Tonight we played at exactly the sort of level I would expect from this club and let's hope this continues on the road for us.

^ It wasn't bad. There were quite a few people around me I hadn't seen before and took a bit to get them into things, I think. 112 has much louder this season, but there were some good moments when everyone kicked it up a bit.

"The referee was absolutely awful," steamed Michael Bradley. "The people at the MLS office want to talk about improving the league, the first thing that needs to be talked about is improving the refereeing. Bottom line... it was bad for both teams."

Why? What does it accomplish other than risking a suspension during an important road stretch?

Oduro is the first real quality winger we have ever had.

Jackson, my god, how many gold plated chances did he fumble?

Bradley will be fine.

All I have really learned is that we can win any game with Defoe, and we can't really win a game without him. He has to be the league MVP.

This was a playoff-type game. For those of you saying we'll win these games in the playoffs, in October/November, Defoe will be hacked/marked out of those games.

He's not going to get suspended over comments.

That and it shows leadership. He was remonstrating with the ref all night. As a captain should when a ref is that pathetic.

In the face of the constant whining by Vermeer and Zusi and the rest of that team, and then their complete back down at the end of the game when they got what they want (two what should have been straight reds not called), its good to see a player man up a bit and call it what it was - bad refereeing that has to stop if this league is to be taken seriously.

If they want to bring a guy along, don't throw him into a 2 vs. 3 match with those two coaches at that place. That's the sort of game that should be getting us one of the experienced refs. Instead, we got the rookie.

Its not acceptable and Pro needs to hear it.

Come on. You think MLS is completely unaware of the quality of officiating and all of a sudden will simply just hire "better" refs?

These comments do nothing except cast MLS in a negative light. They have no value other than risking suspension. Small risk but there is no intelligent value in saying it.

Now, he probably said it with a mic in his face without time to think. Just as other players/coaches in MLS and other sports have done.

But the indisputable truth of the matter is that Leagues don't like players airing dirty laundry in front of sponsors/ticket buyers and potential fans.

Bradley's comments, and those of others, are not looked upon favourably or helpful by the league.

PRO blew it. An inexperienced ref like that should not be in that situation. There are significantly better refs in this league than that guy. A good referee association would have done better. Bradley calling them out is important and good to hear.

Bradley will get fined. But they will not suspend him for comments like that. What will mask this for PRO is the SKC crowd is the 3rd biggest/loudest/influential supporter group in the league. But that sort of homerism can't mask things forever.

I have no problem with Bradley speaking up, this league wants their American players to return from Europe and play in the MLS while still in their prime, with players like Bradley and Dempsey, but puts out hacks like the guy today to officiate games. If this league wants to keep and bring back some of these young star players then they better start improving the type of officials they have doing these games. The guy in last night's game was a complete disaster!

This game could have been ours.

- Like everyone else, very happy with Oduro. What a steal that was!
- Jackson what happened to you? Not your best game by far
- Very unfortunate to not get any points from that game, at home and with 1 player advantage in the 2nd half
