-----------Bendik----------------
--Orr--Henry--Hagglund--Morrow-----
--Oduro--Warner--Bradley--Osorio----
-----------------Defoe--Gilberto---------------

Bench: Morgan (!), DeRo, Moore, Bekker, Konopka, Lovitz

I predict Houston 1, Gilberto 5

Wager $2 on that, and you'd walk away with about $400,000 if it happened.

Bendik, Hagglund, Orr, Henry, Morrow, Osorio, Warner, Bradley, Lovitz, Gilberto, Defoe

2-1 for us.

Going to be a lot tougher then last Saturday.

Hagglund pretty much indicated he starts on the right again with a note about trying to do his best Bloom impersonation - hopefully he doesn't give Davis enough room to score twice like last week.

Feeling a little uneasy this morning. Like with all the football played and to be played that Defoe is due for a tweak.

Hopefully my ability to predict that is as good as my ability to predict gains in my stocks.

LOL, while I haven't been dwelling on injury risk to the TFC golden boot candidate I do think this game sets up well for Houston after getting embarrassed by TFC coughing up the 2 go lead and getting a rest while TFC battled mid- week. It will be a big boost if TFC can put down a team that most likely feels like they need to treat this game like a cup final.

Despite all the things that could be construed as going against us for this game (the heat, Injuries etc.), this is far and away the worst backline in the league we're facing. JD will score at least one and Bradley and Warner will hold down the middle. I think it's pretty damn likely we get a result from this one.

Temperature at kickoff: 29 C and humid. Houston had no midweek game. They are 4-3-2 at home.

We haven't won a game with Bradley since April 5th at Columbus. Since he left for the WC we are undefeated in games without him with 4 wins and 3 draws.

If we're not going to start Gilberto might as well cut him now. He's not going to regain form coming off the bench at the 75 min mark.

+1, great post. I'd keep expectations low today. Although in the case of Bradley I'd argue correlation and causation are very different.

I get the feeling that Houston wants some payback for an embarrassing last weekend. Our backline is injured and theirs is getting Corey Ashe back. Not to mention the Houston Home Crowd and I'm expecting a 2-1 TFC loss, with Gilberto and Defoe arguing on the pitch. I do not feel good about this game.

really? I feel the exact opposite. Play our best lineup and and we win... I like Oduro more then Jackson btw and he should start regardless of the injury... If DeRo were to actually start over Oduro then wow just wow I may turn the game off... let's see what Odudro can do... AND CAN WE FINALLY SEE A GAME WITH ALL 3 DP'S STARTING... Gilberto better start... He's clearly match fit.

Their starters aren't very good and we've travelled well this year. Not saying the result is going to go our way but there's definitely reason to be optimistic about this one.

thought we were a bit lucky last week , the game easily could have gone either way . Lacking D without Jackson but will get more effective offense from his replacement .
Bloom will be missed , he is a work horse and good crosser . I look to Oduro to bring on the passes and crosses . the d not so much . please please start Gilberto and give him two or three full games ( if he can take it) ....if we don't soon start Gilberto trade him , where he'll be given a better chance . Still we lose tonight . esp if no Gilberto and we continue Nelson's love for mediocre over performers , who never see Defoe .

I some time think Nelsen reads the boards and he is going to try to end the discussion about Gilberto.

He needs 2 assists and/or a goal tonight.. if he comes up with nothing then the boards will go nuts against him. I still think he should have 12 starts... this will be game 13 start 9

For a friendly vs Spurs B team. Most of WC players not back for Spurs yet (vs Seattle)

Yikes Morgan is the only defender on the bench. And no one on the field except maybe Warner can cover those positions. Reminds me a little of when SKC had to throw J Peterson at RB.

OgtheDim
07-19-2014, 07:59 PM
Surprised but I see the logic.

Personally I'd rather have a rested Defoe for SKC. (the friendly is a lark and nobody is considering those minutes anything to be rested for)

If there is a defence that we don't need Defoe for, its this one.

Time for Gilberto to step up.

The MLS site has Oduro up front with him. If he happens to bag a goal, the optics for Gilberto aren't gonna look good. But you know what? I think we're gonna see a good game tonight. Gilberto may just surprise us (and Houston).

I'm not surprised or really that disappointed that Jermain is on the bench. He seemed a bit fatigued second half vs Vancouver. This way he can get some rest and come off the bench as his explosive self if need be.

maybe Defoe is slightly injured, if not , they r hanging Gilberto out to dry . He, as Moore needs Defoe on the field . Can we at some point baring injuries play our best 11 for once . Call me crazy but I want to see our D tonight . They'll be fine as long as they control themselves . And don't get overly aggressive.

Not sure what happened there. If Bendik is going to come out to claim the ball, he's gotta let Orr know.

Not sure about that second goal. I think the ball may have just crossed the line on moores cross. I didn't see a handball, but if he did, another reason it could be called back.

Since none of the players protested either, odds are neither of them happened, but that ball must have been close to going over the line.

Well when you can't settle the ball or retain possession, all we can do is defend. Every time we have the ball we rush up with some ineffective counter attack or simply hoof it.

What happened to how we were playing in the first half? that was a much better strategy.

Good game to watch you can tell though the heat got to the players near the end. and in TFC's case 3 games in 7 days probably tired them out, but I can accept a draw. We ran out of gas late in the second half. Understandable considering the humidity and recent fixture congestion.

Otherwise, I thought we played a solid possession game through the first 70 minutes and created several good scoring chances as a result of some impressive passing sequences. That aspect of our game has been steadily improving as of late, and it's encouraging.

It sucks that Defoe got the yellow card, but Gilberto is hopefully rounding into form now, so he should be able to step in and fill the void against SKC.
