OK, so Baldomero Toledo wins hand down as the worst referee in MLS, hand down. There are a few other examples (or more than a few) of poor officials.

So I was looking at the list of World Cup referees, the supposed "best of the best." There is only one MLS referee on the list!

Mark Geiger is the guy you want doing your match.

For assistants, you want:

Eric Boria, Joe Fletcher, Sean Hurd. Precious few, in other words.

Here's an article on Mark Geiger:

I like what Larson said today

As I say every time somebody rightly slams MLS referees... Refs are bad everywhere. Yes, as bad as MLS refs. It's what replay has done.

There's only one referee from each country. I don't get your point

There's only one referee from each country. I don't get your point That would mean at least two potential MLS refs.

There's a Canadian assistant referee (Joe Fletcher), if that makes a difference.

Best ref so far was the Ivorian in the Chile / Australia game.

Helped that he wasn't dealing with a bunch of divers / actors / agitating whiners.

Which reminds me, the England / Italy game is on today.

Geiger did fine, waved off the dives from both sides.

Geiger is probably the best ref so far in the tourney. Still early though

Geiger got himself a primo match Spain vs Chile for not sucking compared to other refs

Another decent game by Geiger. no major controversies that I can recall

That game could have easily boiled over. He's done well. Hope he gets a late 3rd round match and it would be nice to see competence rewarded. He and the Turkish ref have impressed me the most.
