I am pissed that I completely screwed up my fantasy team.

I have Franklin on the team for some reason (he doesn't even play today). Opara isn't starting. Sinovic and Sene are injured. So, that's four players that will be getting me 0 points this round. Only potential starter I have on my bench is Kimura, and that would be highly unlikely.

Garber's done alot for this league but he should really consider relocating instead of expansion. A 16 team league would be alot more competitive.

NBC guy pointed out rightly that Dempsey should have been with Seattle as against being in Fulham. Probably going to say the same thing next week about Defoe.

Here's hoping Defoe takes the time off and comes back with the team in late January.

Cooper has been the only real threat going forward...surprised he's not getting the ball more.

OgtheDim
03-08-2014, 05:06 PM

Thought they looked beatable as well.

If we can press high, avoid dropping to deep defensively, and reasonably cover the flanks we will have a chance. If we revert to that TFC we saw last year that cedes possession and tries to hide in the box and hit the counter attack we will lose. Tactics will be telling, because KC was very effective at playing the high line and for good reason, because seattle was much more dangerous once they started swinging crosses into the box.

Also depends on our L side situation. If we have (insert non - Rey winger here) and Morgan in his current form on the left, we got issues with Yedlin being able to bomb, which is what happened in the last 10 minutes. With Rey and Morrow, not so much.

Their CD pairing looks kinda slow too.

It's playing a lot slower than the seattle turf. Although it was raining there, so its a tough comparison.

Stoppage time drama. Rimando saves a stoppage time, extremely borderline penalty from Keane to preserve the 1-0 win over L.A., and Portland ties it up with a stoppage time corner. Gaston Fernandez header off a flick on which I think came off Hoppenot, completely sliced the clearance. Philadelphia deserved the 3 points, but only gets 1.

The team was bought by MLS last month from the guy who also owns C.D. Guadalajara. They plan to sell the team and re-brand it for 2015. Seeing how they're looking to keep the team in L.A. it could be a challenge to find someone who wants to buy a team with a minuscule fan base who has to compete for attention with the L.A. Galaxy.

Amazing first weekend of action. The additions this off season have a ton of teams looking very very dangerous. Teams are starting to manage their cap responsibly and put together some really really talented, yet budget friendly squads. Going to be a very competitive year. I think injuries will play a huge role in who dominates, because having injured players take cap space is pretty ruthless..

Those unskilled average American players do not look comfortable out there at all. Im impressed but at the same time worried about how far TFC really did move up this past summer.

Portland and Kansas City are also by far the most important teams in the league IMO. Anyone soccer fan who bashes MLS for not being real 'football' and not entertaining has to watch these two teams. Sure you have Galaxy, Red Bulls, and Sounders who all have talented teams but they don't play that incredible brand of soccer. Portland and SKC could put on a show and earn respect in Euro league.

I had some brutal weeks like that last year.

I'm going to make it a habit to check the projected starting lineups 24 hours before game time from now on.

I played Maneh when he wasn't even starting. Could have had Corey Ashe and 10 more points in the lineup instead.

Vancouver looked great. Robinson letting them play offensively compared to Rennie. I know it's only one game but wow.New signings look to be spot on. Mattocks will be a different player this year.

esp since I think he'll be gone......Morales will be all over him .......Mattocks won't be able to comprehend being number 2........Their team is exciting and easily number 1 in Canada........young guys wanting to prove a point....all with similar skill sets , and we scouted and sent them their DM. Good on them .

^this...can't believe how entertaining most of the games this weekend were.......time for shift and old diehards who think ALL the European leagues, bar none are far superior to our MLS are in for a rude awakening . I see just as many boring Italian , Spanish and Premier league games . We are coming of age . Before rebutting the opinion I hope everyone will actually 'watch' a bunch of games , I did and was fully entertained by the majority.

All I want from TFC is to play like we belong. Even if the results don't come. Just play with some style, and look like you belong in this league.

Saturday morning EPL, the night MLS and today watched La Liga and Serie A. Overall it was a good weekend. I didn't notice the gobsmaking difference with MLS, I did skip the Chivas game today though.

A little late to the party, but I'm really surprised with everyone here who didn't think VWFC was going to be this good. I hate them just as much as all of you do but c'mon.. a team with Manneh, Salgado, Koffie, and Mattocks all being subs (switching out Morales for Mattocks in the starting 11) sounds very good. Then include Beitashour, DeMerit, Reo-Coker, Laba, Teibert, Miller, Morales and Fernandez in the starting 11..... how could anybody sleep on this team?

Not 1 scoreless game in the first week lol and an average of 3.25 goals per game....and it gets even better next week because TFC play. Can't wait!

I agree. I saw the La and RSL game on television and saw the highlights of all the other games. Most of them were pretty exciting and I do think the league has turned a corner this year in terms of quality on the pitch. I would still say, however, that most major european leagues are superior to the mls in terms of quality. I don't think there is a team this year that could compete consistently for a championship let alone a top four spot in any of the major european leagues. Maybe mid table. It all comes down to depth and I would have to say that most of the clubs in the top european leagues have deeper and more talented squads than any mls team. However, if mls continues its upward trend and the salary cap continues to rise, than that will inevitably change. Perhaps being a top league by 2020 or whatever date they set isn't so far fetched of any idea after all.

Turned out fine for me actually lol. Got 40 points, as it turned out Franklin did start (he was only questionable), Opara came on in the final minute (he lsot the game for them but at least got me a point) and Sene also came on as a sub. Thank god I had Rimaldo, Fagundez (dno how he got 4 points considering they got thrashed), and Laba in the lineup.

Watched most of every game by having two going on separate screens.Just some great football; can't believe how much better the league has gotten just in the last eight years. Teams with poor movement really getting found out this weekend. Some major battles, too; Portland and Philly both looked impressive as hell. Vancouver was revelatory, KC was intensely disciplined despite the last-second scramble loss. New England was flat and so for periods was Montreal; New York played okay for a few minutes here or there but just got exploited defensively constantly; Ecks had a pretty horrible night.

The Galaxy couldn't finish or that RSL game would've gone the other way.

That + Playoffs would probably suffice for me this year. Show that they are on to something with the moves they made this winter, and then we can hopefully fill it out with some depth, and improve a couple of the starting positions over the year/draft.

I thought DCU was improved even with the tonking they got from Columbus. RBNY? Seems they play when they want to, they obviously didn't in Van.

I thought for sure with the many upgrades in the Eastern teams they would present better vs the West teams, but the West seems mighty strong yet again (LA didn't look good but they have been slow starters the last few).

^true,...yes it goes without saying but as far as I'm concerned the equality of the teams by and large were massively competitive.....and I was pleasantly surprised how the wife and I got into the majority of opening games....There r some players that not only love playing but seriously want to win it all on every team . That is very encouraging . Hopefully in the future the league FIRST raises the minimum wage and allows 4 DP's , maybe even expand the roster . Love the hook up affiliation with Wilmington , this also is a must . I may get addicted to MLS live.....interesting to see how this goes through-out the season , even with the confusing black-outs.

perfect analysis , I was shocked at Philly's quality . As I said before we at least will have some great games to watch this season.......they'll all be out to get us..:coolgleam:
