I voted Valeri, Henry, Oduro, & Saborio. Last one's a toss up though.

Zusi, Henry, Kobayashi, Diaz; agree, last one is a toss up

Zusi, Henry, Oduro, Saborio.

Camilo notably absent from the first couple of groups. I would think one of these would be up there in terms of GOTY candidates.

Surprised you guys are going for Zusi over Valeri. That control from Valeri was great. I could see voting for Zusi if it was intentional, but that was just a misplaced cross.

Also there are a bunch more groups to come. Those two Camilo goals will be in there for sure. Every GOTW winner is automatically in, plus a bunch more chosen by MLS staff. Means Russell's volley from early in the season will probably make it into a group at some time, he got snubbed on GOTW because Portland stuffed the ballot box in favour of a pretty routine Ryan Johnson goal.

To be fair, Oso is Canadian born, of latino heritage. Laba has been out for quite awhile and was only here for part of the season, to begin with. Rey is in a similar boat, having been out with injury for a good portion of his partial season; he's really just played a handful of games.

Group E-H

DeRo, Powers (although Morales was sweet too), Agudelo (although Michel would take the cake in any other group), and Darel Russell

^ That's how I voted.

Some of these goals are just the product of ballot box stuffing. Few very scrappy ones in there.

Yeah they should just stick to the standard formats, league mvp, rookie, etc..

I want non of these awards based on your descent, what good does that do?

No love for Benitez goal? Henry had the best technique, but Benitez goal was pretty special IMO

What they should have done was have all the Portland GOTWs in two groups. Have them choose which ones they really liked best.

As far as long bombs goes it was decent. Wasn't the typical quick turnover followed by taking advantage of an instantly out of position keeper. He had to look up and realize what he had, which was smart. But I still feel like any goal like that has a large element of luck to it, so I tend to go for the skill ticket.

Latino of the year?? Am I the only one that sees something wrong with that? Lol

There was a great episode of Hill Street Blues back in about '82 or '83 (I only saw it the once) in which a Chicano officer is mortified to win "Latino Officer of the Year" and it takes the entire episode -- at his "acceptance speech" dinner -- for him to explain to his dunderheaded colleagues how demeaning it is to be singled out only for race.

But I think MLS is trying to foster a cultural pride thing via the Mexican American community or something. It's kind of archaic, but there ya go. I wonder why they don't also have an "MLS strikers of French origin with family ancestry in the Caribbean" award. Piquionne, Henry .. there's gotta be a couple more in there. Or, if not that, maybe we can divide the U.S up into quadrants.

Sheesh.

If they had a "black person of the year award", this conversation would be different. Lol dumb award - meaningless. Why not give out juice boxes and orange slices since everyone is a winner anyway.

Osorio goal vs NY up for GOTY. But why does it fee like TFC ended being posterized for so many of these GOTY candidates? :P

Is it just me or are these groups stacked in comparison to other ones?

I voted Higuain, Moffat, Higuain, Camilo.

Definitely a lot better than some of the earlier ones.

Osorio, Henry, Higuain, Camilo.
But there were easily another four goals I would have sent through. The bomb from Barnes in the least group was pretty special.

I was too, that was a way better goal than his sort of sideways bicycle kick. Did that shot get tipped or something?

Agreed, so many goals that are meh goals that made the cut, Russell's goal was not the best, but deserves a mention at least

Tough call Moffat's was a terrific strike. Still think Russell's was more difficult on the bounce to control then make the 180 turn to shoot.

shocked that henry made the final round and not camilo's vs. chicago; otherwise, rest was expected; although i'd have preferred michel's in this group over Valeri had it not had to go up against Agudelo's flick

I think I'd go with Camilo's volley if you include the build-up that went into it, but Agudelo's goal has me torn. It's too bad that no matter which one I pick, the winner will be Valeri due to Timber's fans stuffing the ballot box.
