Broken toe and out for a month?

Looks like Hall is back, Bekker might even get a few minutes... Can't bode well for Uruuti's service from midfield.

I wouldn't mind seeing Morgan at LM and Elmer at LB occasionally as well. Either late in the game or if we move convey inside.

Seems overkill for a big toe.

That doesn't look like right. A leg cast for a broken toe? something smells fishy.

Manby Aparicio please. Perfect time to see how the kid gets on. We all know what we have in Hall and Russell. Platoon between Manny and Bekker

this is heartbreaking, nothing goes for this team

At this point in the season I'd be all for playing the kids as we're out of the playoff race but considering we have no draft pick this year the only one who benefits is Vancouver.

I haven't seen manny play much before other than a little bit of reserve action.... do you think he is ready for 1st team action?

Seems overkill for a big toe.

I had the same injury years ago, I had to wear a plaster cast.
When they started to put it on just below my knee I reminded them that it was my big toe that was broken.
They replied it was to immobilize the ankle so to keep the toe up.

Given the sinking feeling in my stomach and the muttered 'Oh Shit!' when I read the news, I suspect I know where my vote will go for Red Patch Player of the Year...

In all reality he probably isn't ready. However your not really going to get a chance to see him with a limited reserve leauge. The seasons pretty much a right off you know what you got in most of the guys start playing and evaluating guys that don't get alot of playing time. Perfect to get them into real leauge action and see where they are to set up what we should do going into next year.

So much for the team gelling before pre-season. Oh well.

It's only 4 to 6 weeks, that puts him back before the end of the season, given another 4 weeks to train.

Argh....... From August 11th:

Two things I'm worried about with Laba: 1) he's still one yellow from a suspension; and 2) I think he may have a fairly high risk of injury due to the way he plays. That's a problem if TFC is too dependent on him, and doesn't have a decent backup. Fingers crossed!

He should ask the doctor to set it on an angle. The team desperately needs a free kick specialist who can bend it.

Thanks for the clarification. I broke both of the big bones below the leg and the plaster cast I had went to mid thigh, which is why it seemed like overkill to me.

I'd much rather they err on the side of caution.

I will miss watching Laba play, though, and I'd really wanted to see an increasing understanding between him and Urrutti before the end of the season.

Actually, I had high hopes of seeing Laba, Urrutti, Earnshaw and Koevermans take the field together once or twice.

Nelsen will never give up his pet position. He'll risk Hall's incompetence and Russell's red tackles before Manny or Bekker play off of Osorio.

To be fair neither Bekker or manny are described as DM, both are CM or CAM. If we are putting in a player to replace laba then hall and Russel are our only real options.

That's unfortunate. And if that is the case where is the oppurtinuty for any of these players coming through the draft or academy?

I think we need to see what we have with a full attack middle though. An see how it goes nothing to lose.

I broke my big toe falling down the stairs at Anfield. Stayed for the second half and walked it off. Pussy.

Never suggested otherwise.

Heavily implied.

Our depth is woeful. But playing an attacking 2 mids when the wide players are less then steller in defence (the best defensive wide player we have is Lambe) will create even more space between the back line and the midfield, causing us to break down in attack like we did against Columbus.

This isn't Football Manager.

sorry about that, I changed the picture and it still looks gross. I broke my big toe once and it was horrible, worse than broken ribs playing hockey (I broke 6 doing that).

It's very simple. If you are a DP and playing for Toronto you will get injured and be out for extended periods of time. Why should the pattern change just cause he is young?

On a serious note....sucks. One of the only bright spots on our season was Laba.

Well, at least our other bright spots - Osorio and Bendik - aren't injured. If that happens in quick succession, only then will I consider this team cursed.

I'm waiting for a lightning strike to the east grandstand to wipe out the entire east side crowd during a match - me included...

Read my two sentences again, their defensive capabilities are never implied let alone heavily. I wasn't even talking to you. The only thing implied was the possibility of playing CM to CAM instead of DM to CAM. Clearly this is not defensively advantageous but neither is Hall.

No...it's a picture from the website of the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons: http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=A00655

They have some truly gruesome pictures there...this one is mild by comparison.

The picture of a lower leg in a splint is supposed to be Laba's leg, from a tweet I saw on the TFC web site.

Well, it could have been worse. At least Laba didnt bust his labia.

This is a downer for me. Mathias has been one of the bright spots on the team, and I really enjoy watching his play. I'm afraid there will be a noticeable impact with him missing.

Anybody else find it totally classless for the club to headline the story about Labas injury with "Dios Mio!"? I mean, I can't think of anywhere else in the world where it'd be OK for the club to write that. Maybe it's just me.

It's confirmed now that we will see no more of him this season

“I’m not going to rush him back for the sake of two to three games because it is a joint fracture,” Nelsen added. “If he reoccurs that injury again, that 4-6 weeks becomes 10-12 weeks and an annoying thing for a lifetime. Because of the position of the fracture, we have to be really careful.”
