First link is broken, should go here: http://www.torontosun.com/2013/06/20/tfcs-laba-starting-to-stand-out

Good article about Laba. Only 21 and a huge part of our future.

This tidbit at the end I think is relevant

-- Head coach Ryan Nelsen informed media Thursday that the club missed out on its principle summer target, saying the unnamed player signed elsewhere.

Yeah, I was looking forward to that big impact player that Payne kept talking about that was coming in the summer window. Sucks it ain't going to happen now. Got to reset my expectations lower again...damn.

When you go winless for so long at a club known for dropping the ball, it's hard to sign people.

What big impact player has signed elsewhere recently that we can sepculate may have been the target?

Said it in the transfer thread: Higuain. The league wanted to make the Trillium Cup the most prestigious derby game in football, and what better way than brother against brother?

Of course, Higuain hasn't technically signed with anyone yet, but yeah, he's not coming to MLS.

I thought Simeon Jackson recently signed with Wolves in League 1.

***WTF: I thoguht in the last game they said that TFC already had an extension for Earnshaw until the end of the season?

Yeah they already reported the extension for Earnshaw was done right after the release of Dunfield.
Strange. If all they have to do is sign it wonder who is holding up the process? Earnshaws camp or our FO?

"In 90 minutes versus D.C., he completed 90% of his passes, recovered possession 17 times and suffered five fouls, a stark difference following Laba’s disconcerting start."

Lol, you have to love Journalists like Larson who sight their own prior opinions as facts. Has he improved? yes. Was he ever struggling mightily? Not at all.

I wish they would have focussed on signing Caldwell for the rest of the year instead of Earnshaw. Hopefully Caldwell will sign but there isn't much time and it doesn't sound like there has been much talk about it.

Earnshaw I could do without but it all depends on how much he's making. And we won't know that until next year.

Gonzalo Higuain was never a target for this club, it just doesn't make any sense for Toronto FC to even be a part of that conversation. If we're going to sign a big star from a European league, it's going to be on a free. Paying a transfer plus the required $5+ mil a year is ludicrous to even entertain the thought, why not throw in Rooney, Fellini or start up the old Dentinho rumours again? Maybe we need a separate thread for unsubstantiated fantasy's?

I thought the "make the Trillium Cup the premier derby in all of football" line established the tongue in cheekedness of my saying Higuain, but maybe that was too subtle.

he was making 138-155$ before his extension, and they had to release Dunfield to extend him so I'm guessing he's making at least 200k now. Probably more. And shouldn't we find out in the summer when the Union releases the updated list?

Well given our experience, if TFC is "close to" extending Earnshaw's deal, and "hope to" seal a deal with Caldwell, it's pretty well guaranteed that they both won't be here anymore past July.

^ We should be pragmatic about this. Anything above a certain price for each player and we should feel free to walk away.

lol, big *whoosh* on my part. Honestly though, I wouldn't be surprised to hear Garber say something like that.

Those were my thoughts too.

Caldwell is the guy we need in the back four. Earnshaw reminds me of Joao Plata.
Plata had a great start because he was new to MLS but once marked, he wasn't as effective.

Plata wasn't experienced at getting away from big defenders. The goal Earnshaw scored last week Plata never could do. I suspect when playing in a 4-4-2 with a big man, Earnshaw will find his space.
