Payne knows what he is doing here, and he knows the league will respond. This isn't a John Carver blowing his stack at MLS Officiating, this was carefully calculated to ensure that TFC gets a fair shake.

Wow I'm surprised the numbers are that bad. I knew we were getting the short end of the stick but that's outrageous. Show how the MLS FO takes care of there teams and there teams only. Would love to see the numbers for the remaining teams in the leauge.

The Molinaro article about Califf is kinda troubling.

It was in yesterday's news thread briefly and people mentioned that is not uncommon for coaches to go a month without talking to a player but it seems strange to me.

What's even more strange is that Califf is willing to go on the record about it. I'd hope he already tried to get answers privately before going to the media.

Either way....going from a starter and a somewhat praised MLS veteran defender chosen in the restock draft to help bolster the back line to a guy who is bumped by Boss and Henry and not spoken to, is odd.

Nothing troubling - he's as good as gone, especially now with Caldwell in the back.

Even IF he's as good as gone. That doesn't explain or justify a coach not taking to a player for a month. IMO at least.

Speaking of Caldwell...it's odd that he's already had talks about signing beyond the loan deal without having played a game yet.

I know it's dependant on how well he plays but I thought we weren't interested in 33 year old EPL cast offs. I can't see him making 150k a year.

nothing also stops a player from knocking on the gaffer's door

Totally agree and that's why I said I hope he tried to talk about this issue privately before talking with the media.

I just don't understand how or why a coach would go "almost a month" without talking to a former starter about playing time.

That performance in Montreal may have been a huge factor. Even though it was not all his fault the back line was crazy bad that night.

Nelly being a CB...has high expectations for that position and a vetran like Califf should understand his role. No communcation is bad, I agree, but sometimes no communication is communication.

With the recent additions I think the writing was on the wall for some time. Not liking the head games, but what do I know about the internal politics of running a team?

Hey guys,

To be clear, Califf told me he's gone about a month without talking to Nelsen about his lack of playing time. That doesn't mean he hasn't talked to Nelsen at all in a month.

As far as going on the record about it, it should be pointed out that Califf was just answering my question. He didn't offer it freely or pivot to the point out of nowhere (kind of like Payne did with us when he brought up the assignment of inexperienced refs).

During our entire chat, his tone was respectful. He wasn't angry, but disappointed.

The USA Today version of the story gives a huge photo gallery of his last MLS game. Great exposure for MLS. He did this league a massive favour.

I knew TFC were getting refs with less exp, good to have the numbers there to back the issue up. Supprised the chief ref respondeded though. Thanks for John on clearing the Calif story up.

Toronto Trades For Bobby Convey

"He initially lived with club president Kevin Payne – now in charge at TFC – and his family in the Washington, D.C. suburbs and was a teammate of TFC head coach Ryan Nelsen during the latter part of his time in D.C. "

I guess Nelsen is surrounding himself with familiar faces...good one.

If Payne and Nelsen are getting the 2004 DC United band back together, maybe when Ben Olsen gets fired as DCU coach we should offer him a playing spot. Who else was on that team? Oh, Freddy Adu! Who was the coach? Piotr Nowak! Hopefully the reunion won't go that far.
