this could have legs.

This is from MARCH 27.

BOLTON were last night accused of being the meanest club in Britain after axing captain Kevin Davies FIVE DAYS before he is due a testimonial. Davies had earmarked most of the proceeds for his KiDs of Bolton charity.

But yesterday — on his 36th birthday — he was left “hurt, stunned and let down” as boss Dougie Freedman told him he would not be offered a new deal when his contract runs out at the end of the season.
Fans of the Championship club reacted by branding them “spiteful,” “shocking” and “a disgrace.” Davies, who has played more than 400 times for Bolton, said: “It hurts even more because it’s not just me who is losing out.

“I expected a pay-for-play deal or something combining playing and coaching. “To be offered nothing at all was a real shocker.” Freedman said: “Kevin Davies is — and always will be — a Wanderers legend. He is now free to sort himself out with a new club in plenty of time for next season.”

Bolton sources last night said they would look favourably on any request for a match celebrating Davies’ contribution to the club.

Wonder how well Nelson knows Davies? I would think fairly well.

36 year old striker eh? I don't know em, but that's a daunting number.

I could be mistaken but KD is a striker...do we really need another striker?

This quote from the article linked above says it all

A big target forward, with years of EPL experience, providing knockdowns for Robert Earnshaw?

That would be what Nelsen is looking for I suspect. Could be a good move, could be a bust. If he has enough left in the tank and still has decent legs, could do a job for us. Might be a short term contract to hold over until Koevs is fit, but be brought in to have two similar players up front once Koevs is back so the time can be managed between the two. Davies won't score like Koevs, but holdup play up front was something that killed us last year when Koeves came out.

As always how much we pay him is highly relevant.

"Toronto FC has either allowed a losing or equalizing goal after the 80th minute 34 times in its history dating back to 2007."

If it was 36 times we could use that line from the Clerks movie.

Not a Bolton supporter, but i've always liked Kevin Davies and the way he played up front with the likes of Kevin Nolan. But to be honest, i thought he had retired two years ago.

Would make sense but imo, we need help in the midfield. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that they are trying to make the squad better and davies would do that. I just feel that with Braun, Earnshaw and Koevermans, the more pressing need is in the midfield. We currently have two really young guys that lack some experience in Silva and Hall. They are doing ok but we still need more leadership from the roll.

We need help all over the park though so getting another big no. 9 closes one hole that we have.

I like that he's also a big body that can defend set pieces in our box. Seems to be our bugaboo at the end of games.

If we sign Kevin Davies, it will be another panick buy that we have seen TFC make over and over again the past 6 years. Like Dreadlocks stated we need help in the midfield. Without a decent midfield, we can sign all the strikers we want and there would be no improvement (i.e. no service for the strikers). Ephraim (sp?) has shown very little and now Bostock can't get a game. At the level these two have played in the past you would think they would place their stamp all over the midfield but it has not happend after 7 games. I have seen enough of these two. Taxi for two back the UK! I still don't know how Lambe is getting a game. He is not contributing at all. On a positive note Hall has improved but he still should not be a starter. If we sign Davies, you better get use to watching Bolton and Stoke football (i.e. route 1). What also concerns me is the fact that we have not heard a peep out of Kevin Payne for weeks!

Why would it concern anyone that they haven't heard from Kevin Payne? What do you want to hear? It be nice to hear we are signing Frank Lampard for 2 1/2 years but really what should he be out in the media talking about?

He is the GM/President, I dont want to hear him unless he is annoucing a trade/signing, firing someone, or quitting. Would you feel better if he came out and told you of an ellaborate Brazillian scouting trip he has planned? :)

Clearly a lot of the shit the guy is trying to do in terms of transfers is falling through, which must be frustrating. I'm not ready to pin it on our FO, although it is certainly possible.

I thought KP doesn't want to sign old players anymore? I guess this mean either TFC is getting desperate or Danny K might not return so TFC looking for his replacement?

I thought the days of past their prime, out of contract, quick fix but no fix, veteran signings ( Robert, Mista, De Guzman....etc (not withstanding Koevermans and Frings who will and have made a difference) were over or at least not in favour! :skep:

OK! Granted, but at 32 Earnshaw is still 4yrs jr to Davies and 4yrs in football is a looooong spread just ask our Nellie plus Bolton thought him expendable so why should TFC have to consider signing older cast offs, no disrespect intended Mr. Davies ! If Davies comes and .....ahem "tears the league apart" and scores at a phenomenal rate, I'll be the first one to shut up but I just think if the club is in a building period than look for fresher bodies instead of someone who'll have a limited playing time here, that's all!

I will go out of my freaking mind if this happens!!!!! I'm fucking bouncing off the walls!! To have Davies come over here, leaving my favourite team to play for my home team would be a dream come true.

He's lost a step but he will be a force to be reckoned with here in MLS and should have a very positive impact!!

I'd rather have Lee Chong Yong :p

I love Kevin Davies, but at 36, on last legs. Plus he fouls (and draws fouls) like crazy. In the hands of MLS refs... oh boy

Sure, but he still has 4yrs less wear and tear on his compact body! :ihih:
