An all-star letdown looms in Toronto

Cathal Kelly (http://www.thestar.com/opinion/columnists/94561)
A year out, you hear there's going to be a party. Not just a party – a blowout. So you rent a tux and get all slicked up. This is going to be fancy stuff.

Canada Cup's a cracker

I've just returned from my annual trip to the old country to visit family and play a little golf. Don't ask about the golf or the weather – neither has improved since last year. Indeed, the weather was considerably worse.

Dickov set to sign for Pool

BLACKPOOL look set to be successful in the chase for striker Paul Dickov.
According to sources close to the player, the Seasiders' long-running pursuit of the 35-year-old has been successful.

Whoever said the life on the boards these days read like a divorce proceeding got it right - could Kelly's article be any bitchier?

Can't read Cathal.
But I do enjoy his predictable bitter headlines. Somebody assign him to the Leafs. It would make Howard Berger an Angel.

Today's edition of the Toronto Sun newspaper features a special over-sized Toronto FC calendar. It's pretty cool so check it out.

MLS commissioner Don Garber admitted on Wednesday that if the Fire and Toronto can't come to an agreement on a deal that MLS will step in to help broker a deal. Just what sort of deal remains to be seen.

There's no point in reading any of Cathy's articles. He's been suffering from manopause for about 30 years now, so he pretty much hates the entire world. Next to him, Comic Book Guy actually seems perky.

I thought Cathal's article was right on. This game is such a letdown from what was rumoured last year. Wake me when it's over.

It's an all-star game... nuff said.
Counts for nothing and promises the same. Attracts the "I wanna see a star" crowd more than the real football fans.

It is not on my radar in any way.
Now the upcoming Nutralite Championship match... that is a different story all together :canada:

I read the Cathal Kelly article on the GO train today and man was I ever annoyed by his bithing and whining on it. And what's up with the comment that the chance of Beckham playing is slim? Last I checked he was named to the starting 11?

FUCK Cathal Kelly

Oh FFS this is stupid... It's Paul Dickov this whole saga is really depressing considering he isn't the guy we need to put the ball in the net.

"
MLS hasn't yet figured out that it's not that sort of league where people show up for the soccer. They show up to cheer themselves hoarse and drink a little too much. Outside of Beckham, even regular followers have only the foggiest idea of the best players on other teams. And that famous atmosphere we're always crowing about? Don't count on it.
The supporter groups are promising some sort of boycott to express their displeasure with, well, what is it this week? It's the long-way-from-ever-being-official plan to expand BMO Field so that the Argos can play there."

anyone see the article regarding columbus faking their attendence numbers?

Officially, the Crew has averaged 12,881 fans while going 5-2-1 at home. That number, which ranks 13th of 14 teams in MLS, is 262 more than in 2007, when Columbus was 3-1-4 after eight home games.
In reality, an average of 9,638 people have had tickets scanned this season.

I know, I know. God help me, this is so funny I wanna cry. I fucking hate Columbus......EVEN MORE THAN NEW YORK. There. I said it. New York I hate in an offhand, oblique kinda "ahhh, the Red Bulls are Shite" wave of my hand kinda way; Columbus I hate in a "you useless swandiving fucks don't deserve to be able to kick a soccer ball and your four-and-two-third-fans don't either" kinda way.
