Canada at 60. Up one spot. Deserved?

Haiti failed to qualify to the third round and are still ahead of us at 57th sitting one back from Honduras 56th.

I know not many put stock into these rankings but as long as they're there I'll reference them.

Haiti benefits from Gold Cup qualifying.

I'd rather see Canada playing in the Caribbean Cup than be idle but that's no excuse. There are several countries in our boat that have similar FIFA rankings. Come on CSA. Get a coach and a friendly already.

I remember way back Canada use to have to qualify for the Gold Cup. It was usually a January tournament with whatever players were available.

^Yeah that process was still a joke, though. The final tournament had invitees in it as well. Much like this proposed "Americas Cup" but that's a rant for another thread.

I just hope if we keep talking and watching it'll come here someday.

The Gold Cup, that is.

I thought the same thing.

Canada up to 60 ?

Only because Cape Verde Islands, Wales, Austria and Scotland dropped so many it forced us up.

 Cape Verde Islands drops 12 spots and sit just behind us... Cape Verde fucking Islands... and somehow we (and they) are ahead of Wales, Austria and Scotland - like we'd ever have a chance against any of them.

Its almost pointless discussing the FIFA rankings. They are a mess. The math behind it is actually designed to help teams from the stronger continents rank higher.

Any system that:

a) doesn't take into consideration the value of the match being played (who gives a &^%$# about a friendly loss vs a WCQ loss)
b) doesn't take into consideration how badly spanked you beat/beaten (losing by 2 goals, 3 goals is different than by 8 &^%$# goals)

Is a system that needs improvement.

The importance of the match is actually taken in to account

I stand corrected on that point. Now can someone change the multiplier of a friendly from 1.0 to .000001 :)
