The Red Patch Boys are proud to announce that the RPB 2012 Man of the Year is Richard Eckersley! Eckersley won the final vote over Milos Kocic and Terry Dunfield in a vote of RPB members.

And the winner of the TFC Academy journal for the final round of voting is lintberg!

Thanks to all of the people who participated in the vote!

Sorry if it's a re-post, but saw this and thought it worth a chuckle:

"Canada gifted Tanzania with a custom Toronto FC shirt. Tanzania responded by immediately breaking off diplomatic relations. "

I'll be interested to see how this plays out. Let's see what the league has learned over the past few years after a few sagas with Twellman, Cooper, and Brek Shea.

They shouldn't strong arm their employees but they shouldn't cave either. I hope to see something that shows they can strike a balance and think of their long-term business interests.

MLS strikers past few years that went to Europe didn't pan out. At best, Wondo is going to 2nd tier league and the league is going to wonder if letting Wondo leave is going to benefit the league overall.

^ Has to be a case-by-case basis though. Donovan (although not a striker) had a few good spells in Europe.

I think something like eredivisie, league one, or lower table bundesliga could be in his range.

Donovan is also an exception case off the field as the US poster boy. He fits the marketing angle the league wants with DP's better than most others in the league.

Wondo is tricky for them. You don't want players to strong arm you, but you also don't want to set a precedent for MLS talent that regardless of how good you become in the league, you need to leave to make real money.

Depends of if the league is focusing the DP rule on marketing or on field success.

Losing Wondo would be real negative to the quality of play in the league... Hard to replace a stud striker like MLS, esp when he is 29, and he's got few good years left.

MLS FO might think it may be just better to keep Wondo in the league, just like they did with Joseph and Twellman (block their transfer deals for the 'good of the league')

I question if that's really good for the league though. Sure you hold onto your one guy, but if potential signings think you're unfair, they will steer clear of the league.

It's not like players groping over transfers is a new story but some of the stuff MLS has been accused of in the past is pretty crappy (example: refusing to give players their cut of the transfer, which is unheard of elsewhere).
