I'd like some more to come out of that Heath story - perhaps someone could get him on the phone and ask him what, particularly, it is about Toronto's football that he doesn't like.

Hopefully it would have something to do with Mariner and help hasten the inevitable.

Re : Sinclair up for FIFA women's POTY. Does she even stand a chance in this thing given her 4 game suspension ? I think she deserves it, and I'd love her to get it, but will Blatter allow that ?

So the Heath non-deal finally gets press, but only after Mariner officially comments on the situation.

The press gets a D minus on this file, especially since they are just taking Mariner's words at face value and not asking the obvious question: "what is so toxic about TFC that staying at a D-3 club is more attractive than taking the obvious step up to MLS?"

Karma is a bitch for TFC. Is this the era where TFC screwing people in the past finally catches up with them?
Also - another Earl Cochrane "signing" gone astray. Seems like everything that guy touches these days goes belly up.

Sinclair doesn't seem to believe she can do it, but maybe that's because she's so humble when I interviewed her yesterday for WTR (the interview is here: http://www.wakingthered.com/2012/10/26/3555480/20-minutes-with-christine-sinclair) -- but she fully truly believe with her heart that John Herdman deserves to win.

And I honestly believe that if that Pia Sundhage wins, that it's fixed. Herdman is the winner of that lot, hands down. And Hope Powell shouldn't have been even nominated, Team GB was a shambles.

Seeing that Cochrane was in charge of the contract says it all to me. TFC had a firm deal with Heath in the same way that Plata was still a Toronto FC player while he was being introduced to the Ecuadorian media in his Quito kit.

Yes he has a certain accent about him but for those who have heard him before- Did you hear the emotion in his talking about players' futures? Regardless of my opinion on his play that was incredibly heartfelt. I believe he genuinely wants desperately to be a part of this team and its future success.

Too bad, the segment on Heath is short & weak. I was hoping for more. Doesn't look like anyone is going to dig deeper on this.

I noticed that the MLS website article and the Toronto Sun article were almost identical but the MLS website was a bit more optimistic with these two paragraphs added:

Mariner said he has already spoken to another candidate for the job and has 10 more on his list, but also admitted he was disappointed that Heath declined the job

Mariner wanted to make one thing clear when he talked about his list of possible candidates: “There’s no shortage of people wanting to come to Toronto.”

Hahahah, FUCK THIS CLUB.

Promotes the guy who does shit for more than 10 years, then let the guy who fucks the entire MLS season up to hire replacements and assistants.

Mariner's latest gems:
“I think every coach is groomed to be a head coach, it’s whether you rise to the occasion,” Mariner said. “There’s no assurances in football. There’s none. You can discuss and talk about it, but there are no assurances and we all know that.”

And then...

“As far as we were concerned, the deal had a handshake on Thursday,” Mariner told MLSsoccer.com by phone from Torreón, Mexico, on Wednesday. “A handshake as far as we’re concerned is a done deal, but obviously not as far as he is concerned.”

No guarantees -- unless I want them! Hahaha. Maybe a guy whose almost entire football career until now has been in PR shouldn't be negotiating your management contracts, Paul.

Mariner's got to stop calling people out in this way. He looks like a vindictive idiot in making those comments to MLSsoccer. He does the same with his players (like he did with Avila a few weeks back). Man's got a temper he needs to control. It's getting him in trouble.

Is it really anger? Or just a sad attempt at trying to spin the fact that a coach from a lower level didnt think signing with TFC was a good idea? To me its the later.
