I like Osieck (proven winner), but I don't think he will leave Australia to come to Toronto. Rongen is more realistic choice.

I don't think MLSE will spend a lot of money on a coach (they will spend most of money on President, Director of soccer, scouts, technical director which will result in MLSE not having enough money to get a coach).

It doesn't matter who the coach is. Get in a General Manager and let him bring in his own people.

Paul Peschosolido (http://blogs.thescore.com/footyblog/2012/10/18/the-paul-peschisolido-memorial-canadian-content-post-anselmi-rolls-back-season-ticket-prices-to-2007-levels/) believes that TFC should get Peter Wilt and do whatever he tells them. He also belives that TFC should hire Stephen Hart, which I'm not sure about.

Peter Wilt (born in McHenry, Illinois (http://redpatchboys.ca/wiki/McHenry,_Illinois)), is a soccer (http://redpatchboys.ca/wiki/Soccer) executive who was the first President and General Manager of the Chicago Fire (http://redpatchboys.ca/wiki/Chicago_Fire_(soccer)) in Major League Soccer (http://redpatchboys.ca/wiki/Major_League_Soccer), led an effort to bring an expansion MLS franchise to Milwaukee, Wisconsin (http://redpatchboys.ca/wiki/Milwaukee,_Wisconsin), and maintains strong connection to the sport of soccer in the Midwest (http://redpatchboys.ca/wiki/Midwest), Chicago in particular. Wilt is most known for his work with the Chicago Fire (http://redpatchboys.ca/wiki/Chicago_Fire_S.C.), where he gained a reputation for being a fan-friendly businessman in the soccer world.
He is also known as the Patron Saint of The Highbury, a sports bar in Milwaukee where he is known to appear frequently, where he invented Schlabst (http://redpatchboys.ca/wiki/Schlabst), Milwaukee's Black and Tan. A mixture of bottled Schlitz beer and canned Pabst, poured into a pint glass. He also regularly spends time at Club Lago, an Italian restaurant in Chicago and has been known to regard it as his second office. Wilt was known for answering questions from fans through the BigSoccer (http://redpatchboys.ca/wiki/BigSoccer) Internet message boards,[1] (http://redpatchboys.ca/forums/#cite_note-0) and now maintains his own blog on Chicago soccer issues.
In 2005, Wilt left the Fire after Anschutz Entertainment Group (http://redpatchboys.ca/wiki/Anschutz_Entertainment_Group), the team's owner, replaced him with John Guppy. In 2006, he became the chief executive officer of Milwaukee Professional Soccer (a group bidding to bring an MLS franchise to Milwaukee), but left the position to become CEO of the Chicago Red Stars (http://redpatchboys.ca/wiki/Chicago_Red_Stars) Chicago's Women's Professional Soccer (http://redpatchboys.ca/wiki/Women's_Professional_Soccer) team that started play in 2009. After one season, Wilt left the Red Stars for a front office position with the Milwaukee Wave (http://redpatchboys.ca/wiki/Milwaukee_Wave). After one season with the Wave, Wilt founded the now defunct expansion MISL side Chicago Riot (http://redpatchboys.ca/wiki/Chicago_Riot).
Peter Wilt contacted TorontoFC (http://redpatchboys.ca/wiki/TorontoFC) on several occasions for a vacant GM position in 2006 and 2012.

Perhaps he should call again.

To be honest, I am not impress with Peter Wilt track record.

We need people with real soccer experience controlling this team.

Hmmm...I wonder how good Thomas Rongen would be as GM?

Then bring in a tactical genius...La Volpe would be perfect. Get Rafa Carbajal from Oakville as his assistant (and translator).

La Volpe hasn't been able to stick with a club more than a year due to bad results. Plus, he lacks North American experience which makes it hard to hire him.

Like I said before, Osieck is best choice because he has been proven to be a winner and he got experience with Canadian players (But Jim Brennan isn't big fan of Osieck though lol).

Rongen got experience and vision to lead this team.

Great post Jloome and thanks for this educational experience.

After much research (the links you gave) I whittled it down to: Backe, Osieck, Smith, and Clarke with Osieck taking it with the most impressive resume.

La Volpe seems way too volatile. No thanks.

And like you mentioned he doesn't seem to stick around for very long.

IMO the coaching revolving door doesn't interest me that much anymore. The test for real change is if TA brings in a well established sports executive with extensive soccer experience as a team president and give that person full authority. Peter Wilt would fit that role but he never stays long. Once he gets bored he starts feuds (edit: or feuds find him, not necessarily saying it's always his fault). He is more of a start-up/turn-around specialist, which is fine - we need that. However there is absolutely no indication that TA is looking to restructure the FO so it's a moot question. Back to the coaching revolving door.

I voted Osieck .

He has been proven to be a winner and he got experience with Canadian MNT and NA soccer.

However I think we should get in a General Manager/President and let him bring in his own people.

As others have said. Get a GM/President/Director or whatever with maximum authority & independence, and that doesn't have to get himself involved with the day-to-day nitty-gritty of stuff on the field etc. Let that person pick the coach. I think just about any coach would fail and/or go nuts if plopped into the current environment.

Isn't Osieck the head coach of the Australian national team? And while they've struggled a bit in qualification I don't see him leaving that job to coach TFC especially given they can still qualify for the World Cup.

Given how poorly they are doing he might be available.

Never going to happen, but I would like Ottmar Hitzfeld, current manager of the Swiss national team. Lacks NA experience of course, but that's one guy who always squeezes more from what he has in terms of talent. That's a crucial skill to have in MLS.

No way is Holger Osieck coming to TFC when one of the players who got him turfed as CMNT head coach (Jim Brennan) is part of the team. Besides, he's in the middle of qualifying with Australia. And they *will* make the world cup. Again. :hulk:

From that list my easy choice is ZAmbrano Why? because he had a direct hand in putting together the best team in MLS right now in SKC. They also play a 4-3-3 which meshes well with the academy. He also has connections to South/Central America, where scouting is the most vital for this league.

He's the man for the job.

I'll take La Volpe. Good style-wise and while he doesn't have MLS experience he does have experience working in MLS feeders and with clubs that have limited budgets. Those skills will translate.

Do you mean MLS experience? He may be from South America but he has coached in North America for over 20 years. Of all of the coaches listed, he is the one that piqued my interest. He has a 51% win record over his career (according to wikipedia) and hopefully would have contacts in Mexico, Costa Rica and Argentina. And from reading his wikipedia the thing that stood out the most was, "He is known for his tactical flexibility during matches..."

Yes, MLS experience.

Plus, he hasn't able to hold on a job more than a year. Just look at his record. Always quitting due to bad results.

I'd like us to get a mean-as-fuck, hard-as-nails type from Cental America somewhere.

He'll have a pock-marked face, and be miserable all the time.

He won't speak a word of English, and he'll bore holes in your face with his glare.

... and he'll have one eyebrow.

MLSE will be scared shitless of him.

Best coach from the World Cup, 2006:
Ricardo La Volpe, Mexico
Marcello Lippi for the performance, Otto Pfister for style, but La Volpe for the attitude. Told reporters: 'Get out of my face! You know nothing. Don't break my balls, you fucking idiots.' Spent most of his time at Mexico's camp eating doughnuts under a roped-off parasol. Before the tournament, resigned three times live on air during heated radio interviews, only to deny doing so the next day. 'The media are mental,' says La Volpe. 'They are nothing.'

Technically savvy, tactically flexible...this guy would be great to have around.

You want someone to raise the profile of TFC in this town? Then get La Volpe.

Things would never be dull around here!

MLSE being scared shitless of him? Hell, all of MLS and CONCACAF would be terrified.

You want your team to be distinctive? This guy would be absolutely perfect.
