thoughts? I don't think we should get him, waaaaaay too old. Could be a good goalkeeper coach though.. just TFC's luck to get a 40yr old goalie when they become first in allocation order :(

Toronto FC will not be the team to pick up Marcus Hahnemann.

The idea is to trade the spot to Seattle in exchange for a player or two. Seattle has Gspurning though. I can see maybe San Jose Earthquakes pick him, or even Portland Timbers.

Seattle has a love affair with him so we should look to get something from them (see last seasons TIFO that featured him on it)

@ArmenJBX
haha I've been browsing the forums for a couple months now I'm not too new :p I read on the MLS website that his club will be revealed friday afternoon, I'm assuming that's today? also, do you have any ideas who TFC would take in exchange?

Makes sense to me.

He's an asset, I think that's the way to spin it. Too bad GK is one of the few positions in MLS that has a fair amount of domestic talent. I'd see Vancouver as another possible destination, Joe Cannon isn't getting any more athletic with age.

Most likely signing for Seattle Sounders.
Zach Scott, a player for the Sounders, just tweeted:

"zk scott ‏@zkscott (https://twitter.com/zkscott)I'm no longer oldest on the team! Woo hoo!"

There will probably not be a player signed, unless it happened earlier today and we missed it.

The roster freeze prevents us from signing any more players. That freeze was today, and must be final as of tomorrow (the 15th).

TFC Twitter "#TorontoFC (https://twitter.com/search/?q=%23TorontoFC&src=hash) acquires conditional draft pick from Seattle for allocation ranking: http://bit.ly/RSCz3H (http://t.co/InlB5tON) .. #TFC (https://twitter.com/search/?q=%23TFC&src=hash) #MLS (https://twitter.com/search/?q=%23MLS&src=hash)"

Just a draft pick. That's weak

Were we going to loose the allocation pick if we didnt use it? I dont understand why we got so little but maybe its all part of the plan to completely sabotage our club.

We could probably pass for the next player - but I'd no one else is coming in it's throwing away something for nothing.

The allocations reset each year I think.

Conditional, Toronto FC → New York Red Bulls. 21 July 2012: New York Red Bulls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Red_Bulls) acquired a conditional draft pick from Toronto FC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto_FC) in exchange for forward Quincy Amarikwa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quincy_Amarikwa).[ref 21] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_MLS_SuperDraft#cite_note-Amarikwa-20)

Reminds me of the movie Bottle Rocket, that I saw today(again):

Great management of the allocation asset by TFC this year. Who needs a Toja when you can get a conditional draft pick?

Cochrane probably gets a raise just for this.

normally they are idiots but nothing wrong with this. Least they get a useless draft pick for free, which although useless in most cases its better than nothing.

We really needed a player like toja, that really was a missed opportunity.

We weren't first in the allocation order when he came so unless we could work out a deal with the Revs there was no way to get him. Besides, the rumour was that Bocanegra was coming and I am sure they were waiting for him.

I get that it's not totally within their control (ie there have to be enough players coming back on allocation for this to be valuable) but it's right to be pissed about this. They entered the year high in the allocation draft order, and in other year's I'm pretty sure that being 4th in the allocation draft was worth something. It's like the discovery process - you have to attract the right guys, to turn these assets into something. That's on both the league and TFC.

Specifically: Bocanegra signing in the Spanish second division, where there are tons of stories of foreign players not getting paid, I'd love to understand that better. I wonder whether Bocanegra wouldn't come back to MLS because he knew he would play in Toronto.

How many players did we pass on so far this year that passed through allocation? To end the year with nothing but a conditional draft pick despite being high up in the order is disappointing.

Brings us back to why we are a terrible team in the first place. We don't manage our assets properly.

Im not very fond of this allocation system, let players go and sign where they want like every other league . Just enforce the cap properly and have real free agency. Even though we benefit sometimes i dont like the idea of players being obligated to negotiate with the worst teams in the league, bad teams shouldnt be coddled like everywhere else.

Yeah with allocation the league can then do behind the scenes crap to make sure players go where they want them to go.

Garber is a control freak.
