So what did Mariner do yesterday to get the players attention? Was it just practice or was there something more? Wind sprints around the pitch? A cross country run from BMO to Downsview? No muffins on the breakfast table? A school bus instead of a coach bus? Anything?

Weren't some of these new guys associated with questionable work ethics before they came here? Haslli, Amerikwa in particular?

But I'm sure that Mariner will be able to get "much more out of them". I remember hearing on a number of broadcasts and reading mainstream media suggeating that he did that very thing with Wnter's team there a few months ago.

The cheering was deafening once they brought PM in as the amazing "players' coach." Of course, after an 8 game winless streak, the cheering has died down somewhat.

I feel bad for DeRo and it hurts our chances for qualifying but I also think he brought it on himself.

He gave in to rage and went to put a hard foul on a guy and paid the price for it. I watched it over and over and you can see he went to kick the guy right about shin high and wasn't interested in playing the ball at all. Then his knee crumpled when they both went down.

It should be seen as a lesson for players. Don't give in to the rage.

DeRo can't even catch a break from some even when he suffers an injury.

Anyways, I think this is pretty significant...not just because it really is a huge blow to the already longshot of us moving through to the hex but that may just have been DeRo's last game ever for Canada. I most certainly didn't always agree with his ego and how his attitude came across but I will always give the man respect that he never has received in this country and specifically this city. The greatest Canadian footballer of all-time.

^ I guess we know what PM's wearing on the pitch Saturday!

There have been a bunch of games now where TFC players came out lethargic in the 1st half, and then played with a bit more pep for at least part of the 2nd half. Where's the great motivation? As others have asked, can't PM give the half-time talk before the game?

Wha? I recall clearly the Panamanian crumpling before DeRo made contact. Hence, the knee to elbow action. I thought at first it was a "charlie horse" injury to the quad but apparently it went lower. Rage is hyperbole. Both sides were overheating competitively and challenges were getting too quick to be controlled. There were several made just before and after the injury.

Whoahhhhhh.... Let's keep our chins up, shall we? His career? His season maybe but a man of his determination, even considering his age would work extremely hard to come back and continue a stellar career.

This team has been full of slackers since day 1 of this season. Guys like Eckersley were backing up Winter and calling them out. But people were adamant it was all the mangers fault...20 some odd games later, same issues exist.

I hope not but just thinking about his age and this injury I don't think its out of the question he may not play for canada again. Or at the very least he may have played his last meaningful match. Lets hope this isn't true, i'm still optimistic the boys can somehow pull this together and get through to the hex.

From a Star article on the NHL Lockout (this is the ending). I laughed

"Stellick said there’s more apathy this season than in the days preceding the 2004 lockout, a potentially dangerous recipe for both the NHL and its players.
“There is a danger of arrogance and incompetence,” Stellick said. “Look at what’s happened in Toronto with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment and soccer. Four years ago there were plans for an 8,000-seat expansion at their stadium and an eight-year wait list for tickets.
“Now they are playing in front of 14,000 in a 22,000-seat stadium and it still feels like summer,” he said. “It’s a reminder that you can totally screw something up that seems like a sure thing.”

now that the media has said it, it must be true.
considering bell/rogers own the media, and are now writing this about their own team....there must be or have been fingers pointed at someone.

He made the laziest players lift the bus up so the rest of the team could get out from under it. Grand Marnier also promised to throw everyone under the bus again, game after game, until he gets results! (or until he gets fired, errr.... I mean promoted...)
