http://www.examiner.com/article/nasl-to-move-to-split-season-2013

although some people are still speculating another team (indianapolis) will be brought into the fold.

my apologies for posting this here, thought a major announcement like this would make more sense going in here than in the international forum where it'd get buried until its reposted here :wink5:.

nah - I was reading that they're putting a team in the Virginias (I think) and Ottawa may be announced as well.. lemme see if I can dig out a url.

edit : or what you said.

NASL close to awarding expansion franchise to Northern Virginia for 2014 season (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/soccer-insider/post/nasl-close-to-awarding-expansion-franchise-to-northern-virginia-for-2014-season/2012/08/08/1a35ff16-e18f-11e1-98e7-89d659f9c106_blog.html)

Good for them. They need more teams in that league if they want to be Div2.

Why Aptetura/Clausera? That schedule won't fly here. I hope.

and good for me as well - I'm thinking of adopting it as my new league... haven't decided who to support just yet. Need to do some research.

What wouldn't fly about the schedule? It would still run spring to fall as it does right now.

Maybe I read the article wrong but are they not changing the schedule? They are changing the league set up so that there is a first half and second half champion?

No thanks. The league is depreciated enough.

NASL Will Use Split-Season Format In 2013 (http://www.sbnation.com/soccer/2012/9/5/3293794/nasl-split-season-format-2013)

I'm okay with this... looking forward to it, actually.

Intriguing change. There a number of appealing features, including single table home and home. How they schedule the cold weather venues (Edm, MSP) at either end of the opening/closing seasons will be interesting. Will have to see the competition impact of saying that during certain months, certain teams will always play on the road.

you say that now, but the Cosmos start play next year... don't worry, NASL bears no grudges - they'll take you in :)

I like the new season format for the NASL because it eliminates the playoffs. The point leader at the end of each half will be deemed the champion of that season.

(There is a one game championship)

However, it is a step away from the playoff format if that is not your thing.

Hamilton probably has a good chance at a team considering they're renovating Ivor Wynne and building a new stadium for the PanAm 2015 games:

I know they've submitted a bid to the NASL a few years ago, so there is some interest. If you're interested in getting Cosmos gear check out the RMP Athletic Locker in Mississauga where everyone gets their Canada stuff. Umbro has been putting out some really nice lines for the Cosmos, and you can usually find them their at a decent price. I picked up the Blackout Collection kit a few months ago for around $40: http://nycosmos.com/shop and http://www.athleticlockeroutlet.com/

Interesting take. Not enough of a compromise for me, though.

This is very interesting.

Can't wait to see how it turns out.

I imagine MLS will be taking some pointers based on it's success or failures with this.

i know in some south American countries the "open, Close" format is used, but i am not a fan of it. However i do like the 1 league, 1 home and away format. I don't like the 2 divison MLS North American format. However i don't mind doing a 1 league table still followed by a playoffs. I don't think you need to completely get rid of the North American style playoffs, just fix the reguler season format. In the way you get a bit of both worlds.

Toronto hosting Pan Am games, oh Toronto you are a joke when it comes to sports you can't even build a stadium in the city that is hosting. Should be Hamilton Pan Am Games. Hell Toronto you might not even get all the venues complete on time at this rate!

Anyways a few questions about Hamilton getting a team is 1) sharing with CFL team Ti-Cats does that mean they will play on CFL gridline field or is it going to look like an actual soccer field for every game like in Seattle?...if there is CFL Gridlines on the field i will never watch them. 2) the stadium will most likely be to big for them, and will the stadium have any seats behind the net?? or is it just going to be open?

quite frankly, i think this new NASL format and resulting playoff final is going to be incredible. it appeases many different angles of fan interest and opinion without really compromising much of anything. i'm surprised MLS didn't push for a 20th club and single table immediately after Montreal for 2013. the unbalanced schedule, and the fact that teams don't visit every opposition stadium, is a joke.
