If NE passes on him, think TFC will pick him up?

Nah. He doesn't fit Mariner's system.

he'd be GREAT for us, we need a player who is comfortable holding the ball.

.... we need a player who is comfortable holding the ball.

Which is exactly what Mariner doesn't want.

He's back from Europe!

New England is ahead of us. But this guy is EXACTLY who we need next to Frings. He can play inside, he can play wide, he's a great two-way mid, Hard tackler, hard shot, good vision.

How many international slots do we have and how many can we play at one time?

Just posted this in news as well. Whoops!

He's a good two-way mid, very technical but also a good hard tackler. He'd be great. He's like the anti-Dunfield.

I think we should try to get him at all cost, perfect credentials to build upon(age/skill wise). A no brainer really.

I wish it was otherwise, but there is no way NE lets this guy slide. If nothing else he has major trade value, as Johnson did to Montreal. Short of trading Silva or the number one pick next year (neither of which Mariner should be allowed to do), we don't have the assets to get this guy. Only way it could happen is if there is someone else coming into the league on allocation in the next few days, before rosters are set, that NE values highly (ie Bocanegra or Edu), in which case our next-in-line allocation slot has real trade value to them (btw if it's Edu, I would rather we get him than Toja).

Highly doubt Toja winds up here.

please, please, please, please!!!

Hell, I'd offer our allocation plus a sweetener to make it happen. Player of their choice, plus our allocation, lol!

Could we even fit the guy in our cap space?! I doubt if we could! If we get him, I'd trade him for a first round pick in 2014 :p

Im going to be very mad if i hear tfc passes on toja. Two way mid who can also play left winger iirc

^ Yeah, we're pretty effing desperate for someone who can play left. And someone who doesn't treat a soccer ball like a live grenade. Sounds like NE will take him or trade him though.

Is there much chance of anyone else coming through this process before the rosters have to be solidified? Otherwise I guess we'd be out of luck for this year for the top of the list.

Does anybody know what happens if we get the pick, but we don't have enough cap space to fit him in? What happens then? Do we have to trade somebody away to fit him in?

Canary10

^ I'd assume we couldn't sign him (ie. we'd have to pass).

New England will either keep him or trade him to possibly playoff contenders: So we will have the 1st allocation pick after Monday. Mariner better use it wisely.

Who knows, maybe Carlos Bocanegra. Rumours are that he might leave Rangers. Would be nice partnership Bocanegra-O'Dea.

Kyle McCarthy ‏@kylejmccarthy (https://twitter.com/kylejmccarthy) Essentially yes. Decision is keep v. trade. RT @evanwhitney (https://twitter.com/evanwhitney) Have the Revs officially used their allocation spot on him?

TFC will have 1st overall allocation pick and possible the first overall draft pick the way things are going. It will between TFC and Portland for 1st and 2nd picks.

^ Between this and (at worst) a top three pick next year it should go a long way towards improving our team. Hate to get ahead of ourselves, but I'd call it another playoff or bust type year.

New England took Juan Toja with their first pick: TFC now #1. Use this pick wisely Mariner.

Any truth to this Bocanegra wanting out of Rangers V2.0 and returning to MLS? If so, I'd take him for sure. I'd rather him than Toja anyways.

This.

TFC got Chad Barrett, a 1st round pick and some allocation. The 1st round pick ended up Stefan Frei.

Barrett was then traded for future considerations.

So ultimately, a mixed bag.
I'd say that worked out alright for us considering how long and how good McBride was for the Fire.

must be a sigh of relief from P M and the tfc staff that NE picked him,i think we would of passed on him anyway,a skillful mid does not fit into our style of play.

Since it was his retirement year I'm not too choked up about it. I think we were compensated but the story isn't over since Frei needs to come back from injury.

Bocanegra at 33 would probably be in a similar situation. Coming back to retire here in MLS.

Bad news is he's never played for his hometown club in MLS. Would he be big enough to warrant another change to LA's roster? Would he play for Chivas? He'd obviously help us but what would we take from the LA teams for him?

LA has a guy named Todd Dunivant. Maybe throw in Andy Boyens.

Sidenote: Holy Crap Chivas's Ante Jazic is 36.

first in allocation ranking, first pick overall, and some allocation money, looking pretty good for TFC if we can figure out the ABCs, we may be a team to reckon with next year

dont forget we'd jump back to first in the allocation ranking if we got to use ours this year
