Afterward, Toronto coach Paul Mariner said a lethargic opening was the culprit.

“It was the opposite of what I asked for in the dressing room,” said Mariner. “It was just not being ready to play.”

Paul Mariner has lost the dressing room.

CanW20's lost to Norway 2-1, setting up a must-win game against Korea DPR on Monday (Norway plays Argentina, who are -15 GD after two games).

Canada and Norway, both on three points, with Canada having the edge in GD (if that becomes a tie-breaker).

If they go straight to head-to-head matches we'll need Norway to get a worse result than us next week.

found it :

5. The ranking of each team in each group will be determined as follows:
a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
b) goal difference in all group matches;
c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.
If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria,
their rankings will be determined as follows:
d) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the
teams concerned;
e) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams
concerned;
f) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams
concerned;
g) drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee

So, we're good with a win, as long as Norway doesn't overcome the current six goal differential.

lol - the usual suspects who were shouting this early in the season don't seem to be biting on this one.

ha-ha, I'm still waiting for T-Boy's impassioned defense of how losing under Mariner is so much better than losing under Winter.

Anyways, I called it right after game one of Mariner's tenure, when I saw how poor his coaching techniques were (I've seen much better coaching in Erin Mills to be honest). TFC will not make the playoffs under Mariner. Obviously not this year, but not next year either, not ever.

There's definitely a lost season feeling at this point. As for the future it doesnt look that bad in a 4-4-2 if/when Mariner is canned:

I dont think thats so bad that it wouldnt work but the big question is Koevermans.

Good point. If Hassli's only here for 1 year, I would prefer a 4-5-1 given the remaining current staff, provided Koevs is healthy.

I don't know how optimistic I am about that lineup, although the "we're only 3 players away" maxim seems to always hold.

In my honest opinion neither Lambe or Johnson are going to cut it out wide. Think other teams have better players in these spots who are more consistent. As you mentioned Koeverman's is a question mark, but also wonder about our interest in fielding both Koevermans and Hassli? Personally, I'd like to see this team use no more than two designed player spots at a time, because three just leaves us completely cap tied with not enough money to spread around.

If I were TFC management in the offseason, I'd look for a a couple of DMs, one really solid wide player (maybe a young DP with a low cap hit like Castillo in Dallas), one domestic wide player who's less flashy but solid, and obviously the big time CB we always want but never get.
