RBNY President for Business operations was sacked due to his poor performance:

Chris Heck, formerly the Red Bulls’ president for business operation, is no longer with the organization, the Post has learned.

A team spokesperson confirmed the move this morning.

Fair or not, Heck had come under fire among the Red Bulls’ supporters, blamed for middling ticket sales and a continued disconnect with the fan base. He becme the target of an at-times disgruntled fanbase, but they won't have him to kick around anymore.

The Red Bulls had a stretch of three games within a week, all of them afternoon games; and it was Heck’s ill-advised decision to slate the midweek game agans the Chicago Fire at 1 p.m., when – unfortunately – temperatures hit 100 degrees.

Captain Thierry Henry ripped the scheduling that week, and said he’d like to know who was responsible. Now the man responsible is gone.

“I don’t know who put the time of the game we’re going to play. I’m not having a go, but playing at 4, playing at 1, are you thinking about the players? I don’t know,’’ Henry said at the time. “We’re having a heat wave. If you want a great game and the team to run for 1 1/2 hours, putting the game at 1 [won’t help].

“We all want to perform and play well, for the fans and for them to come and make the game. Wednesday, 1 p.m? I hope it won’t be as hot as it has been recently, but yeah ... it’s not what you want.’’

Heck came to the Red Bulls after serving as the NB's Senior VP of Marketing Partnerships since 2004, where he managed the business for the USA Basketball Senior Men’s and Women’s National Teams. Before that, he's been the league’s Senior VP of Team Business Operations. But arrived with te Red Bulls and updating thier season ticket structure, which drew ire from some fans that hadn't seen significant raises in their ticket prices for some time.

Not thrilled by the Larson article. Doesn't really say much that people hadn't figured out anyway. Interesting to see that Mellberg Wanted to play here.

The league position indicates that they did nix the deal but wanted TFC to take the hit for it. That is one more point for the thought that MLS really doesn't want a Canadian team to succeed - it would be too hard to sell TV rights to an Amerivan audience (sounds an awful lot like the NHL in that regard).

Article about BMO is really good. I like the surroundings and environment. The grittiness is fun and, as the article said, it can be an advantage. The walk south of King to and from the game is full of loud and proud support. It seems like a bad time for the article to surface though as the atmosphere has declined, with a few decent spikes, since the start of this season.

As a side note, the supporters sounded great on Wednesday. I was, as Denime calls them, in the "prawn seats" and I was happy for the drums and chants to go along with. A quick question to those that call them the "prawn seats". Are the seats the prawns or the bums that go in them?

I think they used to sell prawn sandwiches in the 'prawn seats'. Not sure if they still do. But the name sticks.

The BMO field article says Bud will replace Carlsberg at BMO next year. Does anyone know if that is confirmed?

If this were LA or NYRB, Mellberg would've been here on the next plane out of Sweden. The league would've done everything in it's power to make it work. twisted a rule here, patched it up with another rule over there and BAM - the team can afford him.

To be honest, I wonder if the league is just sick of all the fuck ups TFC have made over the years and are just not willing to do anything for them because of the teams shitty track record with Players, coaches, etc.

I understand the name (of the seats in the sections) as there were more conversations about other shit than football. I have sat there a total of about 10 times in 4 - 5 years and usually have a great time as the interaction with the players is great. The fellow next to me had a huge El Salvadorian flag and was with his kid passing his cellphone to one of the Aquila players, not much of a prawn in him I don't think. The name stinks for those who bring pride to the section.

Bingo.

However, you've got to wonder whether we actually knew the rules.

If the DP slot was still taken by Koevermans, that's got to be in some hand book somewhere. To grab Hassli (who hasn't played yet) with the last remaining slot while still in discussions with your "boss CB" just demonstrates incompentence to the extreme.

I'm with you on the league bending rules. However, this is a franchise that embarrassed the league through the Celtic-DeRo saga. The MLS Cup was in risk of a boycott until Garber flew in and offered "free tickets" and demanded marketing support. Plata's loan back to the original team along with the supposedly unknown fee, it can't be sitting well. If they can't call in a league favour, they have no one to blame but themselves.

Like keeping that chump manager/GM the league recommended around way too long.

I highly doubt the league would behave in such a petulant manner towards one of it's own teams, because of previous managerial or contractual debacles (some of which the league was partially culpable in). They have a vested interest in making sure all of their member franchises succeed (which doesn't preclude them giving some teams special favour).

Based on past experience should we really believe anything our FO tells us? But certainly your last point is a good one, they have no one to blame but themselves.

I have a hard time believing that MLSE doesn't know the league rules - they are members of the ultimate old boys club in the NHL and seem to follow them there. Just missing a successful product on the ice.

The whole TFC situation looks a lot like the MetroStars mess from the early days of the league. Frequent coaching changes, large market, many "stars" that didn't pan out. The biggest difference is that there is a call for MLS to be a US development league, and TO doesn't fit well into the model.

I still really don't know who is responsible for the mess that TFC has become. Hopefully crowds like Wednesday will help create some urgency in moving forward.

Honestly the best things that have happened in the last 18 months have come out of the blue. Nobody had an inkling of Frings or Koevermans. Hassli came from nowhere (although he hasn't played - this will only be real IF he ever steps onto the pitch).

The plethora of names at CB worries me. There appears to be nothing of substance there.

Frings and Kouvermans were part of the payoff to Soccer Solutions, weren't they? Not exactly out of the blue - we still have no idea how much that consultations cost, do we?

But yeah, we seem to be back to the "panic and grab whoever we can" approach.

I don't think it is a stretch to say that they are unfamiliar with the ins and outs of contract law.

The Leafs are led by a lawyer and have also hired a capologist to help them with league rules.

When you think about the paths that executives generally take, these are typically former players without much formal education. Earl is the most educated of our management team, considering Tom Anselmi, the Professional Engineer is hands off. Earl's work experience includes Director of Communications. He isn't a contract law specialist. He isn't a financial specialist. Mariner's background is coaching. He doesn't have a lot of experience with the MLS salary cap. While Anselmi tried to sell it as such, he isn't experienced with it at all. No formal training in contract law or finance either.

It isn't that much of a stretch to say that they are learning on the job without someone more experienced to mentor them.

Interesting... DiVaio is in Italy for match-fix hearing. If he's guilty he could be banned from playing the rest of the year.
