Every game is important and 3 points are a must. Only the top team from the pool moves on and we all know that the best side is Santos.

First tiebreak is goal differential between the teams involved in the tie. Then away goals. Make it count gentlemen

Yeah this is pretty much a make or break game right out of the gate...hopefully some of that CCL luck/form can happen again.

Aguila are quick and had some quick set piece goals.in last outing....I hope we come out of the shoot quickly.....but in their last game saw the typical diving and rough fouls from both sides , it's good to remember that the CCL is a different game. AND is Hassli available,..not sure if he's recovered.or ready.....totally not sure how Hassli will adjust to CCl and the 'latin' temperamental officiating ,...it is a very difficult if unfortunate adjustment. ....actually I was surprised to see quite a few long balls distributed from the back , in quick counters,...contributing to dangerous chances....not exactly the 'control' game.

Danny and Torsten had enough trouble adjusting to CCL refereeing, a Hassli will be in shock. Was it after the first LA game that Danny said "these CONCACAF referees are so bad ..... " ?

I think we will really miss Plata and Soolsma on Wednesday.

Johnson scores for fun in CONCACAF. Pegging him to score atleast one goal.

I hope we're gonna see Hassli for this match, Johnson needs some relieve up front, the "3 lungs" that this guy have has probably deflated abit after last match vs Houston, I hope Johnson can find his form again during the CCL

Also, I am very interested to see if Mariner's style will bode well in the CCL. If Winter had any saving grace, it was his focus and prowess in the CCL. Will the long balls work here?

I'm thinking no...:(

This should be interesting to see how Mariner does in CCL, but we should win this game though. There's no excuses to lose or draw against Aguila at home.

Well it ain't price stopping people. $34 gets you into both matches.Yeah, but that's $34 on top of what I have already dropped this year. I will watch on TV (if it's available). In the past I have always bought seats. This year it's my little price protest - although I wish they hadn't made the price so reasonable because my message does get a bit lost.

I am hopeful for a win, but we really need to play better than we have...

Agreed. There's no excuse for not winning this at home. Against Laguna is a different story though. We did well at home against them with Winter, but 9 times out of 10 I think, even with 4-3-3 to perfection, an MLS would lose to Laguna.

13-14 "actual", or posted by TFC?! There always seems to be a couple of thousand different! I never seem to see the stadium quite as full as the numbers they are saying!

Og, I hear you, but even if the Olympics weren't on, I doubt there would be any TV coverage. Fact of the matter is, TFC enjoys as much marketing as the Marlies, which says a lot about how MLSE prioritizes its franchises and where TFC stands.

This will be the first time ever that a CCL game involving a Canadian team was not broadcast in Canada.

This is bad on TFC FO/MLSE's part. They should be showing this on Gol TV. Its pathetic that they cheapened out on this. (Note, if Sportsnet is hoarding the rights to this I'm willing to rescind my comments on TFC FO being cheap).

So 5,000 tickets have been sold for this game even 5,000 seems a lot but then it's not surprising that 5,000 tickets have already been sold if you consider that Toronto has a pretty decent size community from El Salvador and would not be surprised that the El Salvador comminities living in US cities within a 10 hour drive to Toronto have also bought tickets. Therefore, this could be the first time that a visiting team has more supporters than TFC at BMO field, be prepared people to be out numbered tommorow night because I don't think many people that are not of El Salvadorian background will be there tomorrow night just the few hundred die hards that sit in the corner in the south stand. MLSE you are resposible for this you had a good thing going but you managed to fuck it up big time!

Haha, maybe they won't arrive in time for the match and forfeit.

In all seriousness though, TFC better be prepared to take advantage of what will likely be a tired CD Aguila squad on home turf if we are to maintain any hope of advancing to the next round.

Off the top of my head, I think it's fairly good. I recall victories against CD Motagua, Cruz Azul, Real Esteli, and Tauro FC, draws with Puerto Rico, Pumas, RSL, LA, and Santos Laguna, and a loss to FC Dallas.

Well it ain't price stopping people. $34 gets you into both matches.

The price isn't what's stopping me, it's a few other things...

1) I still feel like this group stage is a bit of a farce, they way it was designed to essentially give the Mexican and US teams an easy road to the knock-out round. Especially insulting when you look a the reforms UEFA implemented last year (with the winners' steam and best-placed stream) to give smaller nations a better chance of progressing.
2) I have 2 pairs of tickets, and TFC makes it difficult to buy only 1 pair (or 1 ticket for that matter)
3) Similar to point 2, without calling the ticket office, I have to buy both games, and can't buy just one (I already know I'm travelling with work when the 2nd game is on)
4) With my general displeasure about how the club is being run (again) this season, I'm (again) cutting back on my TFC spending beyond the season tickets purchase... in the past I've limited it to not buying food and beverages, but given my first point, I have a hard time getting enthusiastic about the Champions League this season

I would love for the team to win the group, and will plan to buy tickets if they make it to the next round, but for now I feel like CONCACAF stacked the deck against us, and I don't really feel like contributing to the farce.

What a mess, that they can't get this game televised. I thought Sportsnet had the original rights to CCL? I saw in the Toronto Star today, they misprinted that it is going to be televised on sportsnet 1 tonight. But of course that is wrong. Makes no sense because there is a perfect time slot to place this game in from 8 to 10. Considering the jays are on the west coast and play at 10.......and now I'm reading it was going to be Goal tv but they declined the rights to it.........pathetic

Not so much cluelessness but a reoccuring theme of "I dont like you personaly, or you looked me the wrong way im gonna bench you and eventually trade you". We continue to see this organization hold grudges against personal and fail to resovle these issues.

I honestly think people are just done with TFC. I know many people who have opted out of the last couple of seasons (but used to be season ticket holders) - and now have opted out of even watching them on TV. Next they won't even ask how TFC is doing. TFC's FO is completely to blame. This is not just bad luck. This is horrible, horrible management. I'm pretty sure that we won't see a sell-out in season tickets for next year - and maybe that's a very good thing.

Trying to bring a new professional sport to the city will not work when you combine the following factors:

-6 years of losing
-a revolving door of players and coaches
-price gouging in the stadium
-money grabs with mid-season friendlies
-ticket price increases
-broken promises from management

I love the sport and the team, and will continue to support from a distance, but my personal boycott of going to games/spending money on MLSE products will continue until the people in charge of all of this mis-management are replaced. Even winning will not cure the rot from within.

I dont think how many goals we score matters, as i think i read that a tie breaker in the group stage is determined by goal differential of the teams tied. So assuming we tie in the standings against Santos (dare to dream), the number of goals by both teams against Agullia wouldnt count. I could be wrong though.

If we tie Santos on points, with the same goal difference and same number of away goals, the next tiebreaker is goal difference in all group matches. So unlikely scenario, but number of goals against Aguilla does matter.

That's the mentality that got the Leafs where they are today. Losing team, sold out stadium filled with suits and fairweather fans, you can't even stand up and shout at the other team without a warning, the best seats are empty for 5 min after the start of every period. And it costs hundreds of dollars for all of that. Sometimes something has to give, and for MLSE, it will be the bottom line this time.

Best player in our team!

Amen! Good luck finding a stadium anywhere in the world that would show up and pack the house after 6 years of what we've been through. They'd be lucky not to have a burned down stadium in some countries. Pride in the team comes not because it's a team in our city, but because they DO US PROUD. Still waiting on that. For now it's been humiliation and shame.

And our standards are pretty low. All we ask is that they are a little bit competitive. Maybe making the play-offs one year? So top half in the league - a league where every team have the SAME freakin' means, or well, actually we have more than most (3rd highest paid team). Not asking for a trophy here. 6 years it's been.

Just back from the game and my thoughts were:

1) ML$E should take note that only 5000'ish people were there. If they were in denial about he bubble bursting up to this point...there's no denying it now.
2) Mariner can put a plan together. We pushed really hard out wide and swung the ball in to use our massive height advantage.
3) Reggie Lambe was all over the pitch. What a beast tonight.
4) FOOT ON THE GAS FOR 90 and then just about did.

Good job.

ml$e doesnt get it ---if they sold the seats for 20 bucks they would sell out
same as canadian nats if the seats were 10 bucks we could sell out the stadium and have a great national show of support
their is a price point and fill the seats and concession sales would make up for some of the dough
i want canadian soccer to grow --- why doesnt csa and mlse get it

Much better than previous games,it might be because TFC wasn't pressured like in MLS,but who cares it's CCL,win is a win.
I wish we play more night games, even with 5324 attendance south was rocking in 2nd half.

Spent 2nd half in prawn seats behind TFC bench,it was definitely entertaining watching Mariner going up and down, and he was interacting with most fans there, maybe that's why after Vancouver game his gesture was toward prawns sets, someone must said something during the game. When asked to bring Hassli in ,his reply was:why it 5-1 FFS,you want to be 10-1?Hassli will play in Chicago.

If we take care of business, we won't even need a draw in Mexico, just need to avoid a blowout loss. win at home, win at Aguila, 9 points. if Santos slips at all, we're through. if they get the full Aguila points as well, they'll need to beat us @Santos and overcome what will hopefully be a noticeable GD difference (add tonight to 2 more wins and the minimum we can be at is +6...)

It's all still conducive on us getting our big 3 points when Santos shows up at BMO. that's the Game of the Year for TFC. tonight's GD is just a nice assist to our standing if we do manage to win that.

They've been doing it for the last 4-5 matches. I think they did it once off hand and TFC scored while they were signing, thus it was born.

Good match by TFC but Aguila was very poor. Like ensco said TFC could have had 10. Match actually got kind of boring oddly enough.

Tonight is a very sad night in TFC history, The boys are showing great pride in the shirt and for the city, but the lack of support at BMO makes me sad. We always bitch that the players do not show pride in the shirt, but i think it's the supporters that are not showing pride in our team. Who gives a crap about MLSE this is our team we should be supporting them regardless. I never thought i would see BMO so empty for a TFC game, Shame on all of us.

Ummmm...... We're you at the same game I was? We had only 5300 in attandence but that 5300 brought the noise all game long and represented out team with pride. General attendance anyone?!?

Best case for GA I have seen yet at BMO. Let that happen every game and the atmosphere will come back, and so will the casual fans...

How about a GA season ticket? Sell 80% of the GA area as seasons... IE. first come first serve from the 80% ticket holders. And the remainder as actual GA at the gate.

Had alot of fun tonight celebrating with everyone else in the South end. I thought Aguila was supposed to be tougher than that. When I saw so many of their fans there when I walked in I was surprised at such strong support for them and thought great, going to have to listen to them if things go south on us. Excellent thing that they didn't.

Regarding attendance it's too bad that they have such little support for these games because these CCL games are some of my highlights each year that they are in the competition. They should just price it to fill the stadium. I was there with my wife and 2 kids in the top row of 114 and I couldn't believe when I had security ask me to see my tickets as the match started. There was nobody else in my row except for another pair of people that I know to be STH's as well. He really studied my tickets then told me I was in the wrong seats that I had to move over 1 seat but he was wrong and even if he wasn't..who cares there was nobody there. I told him I am a season ticket holder first of all so I know where my damn seats are cause I am there every game. He looked at the tickets for longer then said yeah you are right. Of course I am moron. Why try to hassle a young family for their tickets when over 15K of the stadium is empty. He had such an attitude too. Anyhow, just a minor irritation but still stupid of the security given that they couldn't even sell a quarter of the stadium.

So first time that we've scored 5 at BMO I think.

And EVERYONE still isn't happy?

We have played many shite teams at BMO, including Edmonton, and never scored 5!

This win should be taken with a grain of sugar.

Play like this against a shorter Mexican side in Torreon, and we could make history twice in a row.

I would still be worried about facing Aguila down in El Salvador, because their travelling secretary F***** up big time having them arrive in T.O on the day of the game. It's going to be completely different in the return leg. I'm glad we won and have a +4 goal difference which when all is said and done could be the reason we move on to the quarters.

I don't know that the travel was a mistake on Aguila's part.

They saved $60,000 dollars in arriving and leaving on the same day. Probably the salary of 5 players... but I am only speculating.

About 60 flights were cancelled or delayed Wednesday due to a backlog of delays from the previous day. Two hours of lightning above the airport kept even more planes on the ground Tuesday.

The stadium was not one quarter full. Acres of empty seats, many sections virtually empty. I think the actual attendance was probably between 2000-3000. I actually counted the number of people in the west side upper deck. It was around 250. (It was no more sparse there, than anywhere else in the stadium, ex 3 sections in the south end).

Trying to move him out if rumors are true, so he doesn't want to risk injuring him. I like him, and would like to see him stay, but he is one of the very few players that we have that likely has some trade value within the league, so if it happens, I'll reserve judgement until I see who comes in.
