does Cunny need a ride to the airport, i'm sure there will be a lot of fans volunteering to help him out.

did carver keep him on the bench the other day because they didn't want to risk injury due to a trade in the works? or was he just fed up...

Probably a bit of both. When Ibrahim came on in Chicago, I was pretty sure that meant the end of Cunnigham.

But . . . if we just waive him, doesn't that mean we still have to pay him his full contract for the rest of the year (because it became guaranteed on July 1)?

If this is true, then we'd have to trade him or risk having $200-ish against the cap that can't be used for the rest of the season.

ya contracts are guaranteed.. cunny is owed 129K for the second half of the season.
i'm sure they could find somebody to take him, although I'm not sure they'd get much in return. Maybe a draft pick?
or maybe Mojo has collected up enough allocations that he can just waive cunny and eat his salary for the rest of the season.
maybe jack can enlighten us on which scenario ;)

I walk by BMO most days at lunch time. Most of the time I see the team or at least some of the team doing drills. Today was the first time I saw these tractor like machines dropping what I guess were rubber pellets onto the playing surface.

Clearly they are trying to soften up the pitch for the upcoming West Ham v MLS Dive team game.

I did not see Cunny.

you sure you didn't mistaken him for rubber pellets?

Cunningham is a dinosaur now and should be put out to pasture. He's done, more done than any striker I have ever seen.

Get rid of him, quickly because he sucks ass and his teamates know it!!!

He is gone, can`t wait!!! Not sure if anyone read this but...

http://toronto.fc.mlsnet.com/news/team_news.jsp?ymd=20080714&content_id=172632&vkey=news_t280&fext=.jsp&team=t280

the highlight for me was Carver saying about Ibbey,
Of all the players we've got in the club in that position, his movement is the best. He understands when to run and where to run. He gives us a different dimension," `

Exactly what Cunningham does not know how to do, 1.Time his runs 2.Make the right runs 3. Not sure if he knows the offside rule

I was actually happy when we got him b/c of his reputation on scoring goals, but will be even happier when he is gone. If we could get an allocation for him would be fine by me.

He spit the bit against Vancouver, but he's done that a dozen times this year. In Chicago, we started 2 non-forwards and subbed in a 16 year old. Given all that, Cunny should have been in against the Fire, and since he wasn't, it makes you wonder.

Did Carver really drop him that far in 2 days? I can't help but wonder if Cunny has already been traded to Chicago as part of the McBride thing, and that's why he didn't play.

My curiosity is piqued now. I have no doubt it is possible that he is gone. But with the news swirling about McBride my speculation is that we are getting Rolfe and money from the fire in exchange for Cunny (because CHI didn't want to give away a striker) and the rights to McBride.

Smith drops down to the DEV roster and Dickov signs. Up front pairing next Sat becomes Rolfe and Dickov (who is flying back to TO now (pure speculation)).

well, Cunny can't say he didn't get a fair shot. I know some people have said "he just needs more time out there any eventually he'll come around." But he's had more than enough chances to shine. He's gotten the service, he's had the minutes. If he was a promising young kid, you'd keep him, but with all this opportunity, a veteran like him should have taken control of the situation by now. 29 games and 6 goals -- given the many many chances he's had -- is unacceptable.

Dichio has not exactly been a star striker (the kind we want) but at least he's contributed 11 goals in 30 games. That's probably the minimum you want out of a starting striker in MLS now.

While that would be nice it is highly doubtful given the cap. They are right up against it as it is ... to fit in Cunny & McBride and lose allocation $ would seem impossible (Rolfe doesn't make big $).

Not necessarily...

Interesting to note though that as of June 5th Chicago has almost exactly 350K in available cap space... think they are saving it for a special someone? ;)
That figure is without any extra allocation money... so if you do the math on Cunny for Rolfe CHI would need ~145 in allocation money to make it fit.

All that said though... I was kinda more hoping than anything :)

make sure he doesn't try to hide any of our footballs under his shirt on the way out. MLSE will use it as a balance sheet loss that justifies not spending on a DP.

Smith - next to no playing time, but at least showed progress
Edu - in the mid, but underperforming a little bit IMO
Add to your list Robert - where'd he go?

But even among all that...Cunny still stands out a the prime underachiever

Well, Cunny certainly has had the most chances so far. When you only have the keeper to beat, or a wide open goal and you actually finish like 1 out of 10 times there's a problem.

Not only duz cunny fuck up all his chances, he can't even make proper runs, and he duz the same stupid straight runs all the time and he never pressures the or works hard, and jsut sits ther wit his hands on his hips. and when he duz get the ball all he ever does is dribble and lose it, he's a complete waste...

I wouldn't say he doesn't make proper runs. He gets dozens of chances every game so he must make proper runs and get himself into the right position. He just simply can't finish. What pisses me off just as much is that everytime I see Smith up there I feel like he's never in a threatening position to score a goal. I really don't know what's worse although Smith is still somewhat young and could get better.

I think playing him with CSL kids and reserves has to be hurting his fairly large ego...

Which is going to result in something. Might not be an either or scenario but...

He may demand to be let go and breach his contract...

He may start to just start lighting up the place game in and game out...(unlikely, a man can dream)

He might get some time in Montreal game, get a brace and be hailed as a god (unlikely, once again a man can dream)
