FFS why is Ecks playing as CB and Henry as RB?
Because Mariner likely wants his most senior and experienced defender available (unless you'd rather see Aceval) in the centre of the defense to organize and doesn't trust Henry and Emory to play together unless it's absolutely necessary.

Further, Mariner probably DOESN'T want Eckersley exercising his tendency to break forward. Playing Eckersley central will prevent that and a more stay at home defender like Henry behind Lambe will give Reggie the license to break forward to the wing when he has the opportunity safe in the knowledge he's got two defensive mids and a defensive fullback behind him. On the left Silva's natural tendency to drift more centrally will see him move into the hole ahead of Dunfield and Frings between the lines; that'll leave space for the more attacking fullback Morgan to advance into.

There's a very logical tactical plan to all of this and it's really pretty obvious if you know anything about formation and tactics. It probably won't work because we're a tired team, playing away, and New England have better players at vital positions but there's a nothing "screwed up" about it.

There is no salary relief for an injured player. You can get a roster spot back if he is out long term. No money though.

Mariner didn't start Wiedeman, but he was a bad choice for substitution for sure. A Danny Koevermans, he will never be. When I did see him near the ball, or near a teammate with the ball, it looked like he didn't want anything to do with it. Not the greatest instincts for a striker. Perhaps that's why FC Dallas tried to convert him to RB?
